Golden Knights fans belted ‘My Own Worst Enemy’ as Vegas went up big in Game 5 and it was awesome

“Please tell me, please tell me whyyyyyyyyyy.”

Whether it’s Virginia Tech women’s basketball, or Oregon football, we always love it when sports fans break out in song. On Tuesday night, it was hockey’s turn.

As the Golden Knights raced out to a big 6-1 lead in the second period of Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals, Vegas fans started to get a little loose and have some fun of their own in the stands.

Midway through that period, Lit’s “My Own Worst Enemy” started playing over the loudspeakers at T-Mobile Arena and fans began to sing along. But even after the song cut out, Golden Knights’ supporters kept singing, acapella style, creating a pretty cool and unique moment.

According to DJ Joe Green – who plays the in-arena music for the Golden Knights – this is something that Vegas fans have been doing for a little while. He first fired up the 1999 track from Lit on a retro night during a penalty kill.

“I was like, ‘We are our own worst enemy. Now we’re in the box,’” Green told the Mercedes in the Morning Show.

It wasn’t really a sing-along moment, but fans loved it. So, Green kept playing it. And now it’s something Vegas fans look forward to.

“It’s just built up to this thing,” Green said. “I don’t want to use it too much because I don’t want it to get stale. But playoffs, I’m like, ‘third song, let’s do it.’”

Folks watching from home noticed it too.

The Vegas fans were in a big chanting and singing mood Tuesday night, later demanding that they wanted the Cup.

The Golden Knights made the coolest throwback to their original roster to begin Game 5

The “Golden Misfits” ride again!

The Vegas Golden Knights’ franchise may still be in its infancy, but they’ve certainly been one of the more successful NHL teams in recent years.

Since joining the NHL in the 2017-18 season, the Golden Knights have been to two Stanley Cup Finals and are on the cusp of their first championship. And ahead of Game 5 of the 2023 Stanley Cup Final, the Golden Knights had the coolest throwback to their roots.

Head coach Bruce Cassidy began Game 5 with the lineup of Reilly Smith, William Karlsson, Jonathan Marchessault, Brayden McNabb and Shea Theodore. The significance? All five of those players were on the Golden Knights’ original roster back in 2017.

So, what are the Golden Misfits? The nickname is what Vegas players called themselves after the expansion draft. It makes sense, after all. The 30 original Golden Knights players were castoffs from the other NHL teams, all exposed for the expansion draft by their former clubs.

Golden Knights fans, of course, ate it all up ahead of Tuesday’s Game 5.

How awesome is that?

Video shows Golden Knights’ equipment manager deserved an assist on a goal after replacing a broken stick mid-play

A job well done by this Vegas equipment manager!

Broken sticks are a common occurrence in hockey. After all, they are thin slabs of flexible wood putting force onto nearly six ounces of hard vulcanized rubber. They’re bound to break sometime!

On Monday, during a hectic Game 2 of the 2023 Stanley Cup Final, the Vegas Golden Knights cruised to a 7-2 victory over the Florida Panthers. During the second period of the Game 2 rout, the Golden Knights extended their lead to 4-0 after Brett Howden crashed the net and came away with a sick goal.

The goal likely wouldn’t have happened, however, if it weren’t for the Golden Knights equipment manager. Golden Knights forward Mark Stone broke his stick in the defensive zone and skated towards the bench to pick up the replacement. Assistant equipment manager J.W. Aiken then grabbed a new stick and rushed over to meet Stone for the handoff.

And from there, Stone then put the puck on the tape of Howden’s stick after a nifty pass to hit the forward in stride. This cool camera angle showed how it all went down.

What a play!

Jack Eichel awkwardly collided with Matthew Tkachuk and the resulting hit was so brutal

This was such an unfortunate hit on Jack Eichel.

This was just a case of some severe bad luck for Jack Eichel.

In a game that already featured a vicious hit on Radko Gudas early on, Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Vegas Golden Knights and Florida Panthers was an incredibly punishing one. In the final moments of the second period, Eichel was rocked on a hit by Matthew Tkachuk, but the play wasn’t a dirty one at all.

In fact, the hit only looked so brutal because Eichel tripped into it after toe picking into the ice. The result was a really unfortunate collision between the two that looked absolutely nasty after Eichel was crunched into Tkachuk at an awful angle.

Tkachuk was given a two-minute roughing penalty and a 10-minute game misconduct in the scrum after the fact, but despite his reputation here, this hit is as clean as they come. It’s a hard one, but it turned so unfortunate only because Eichel lost his footing and fell awkwardly into it.

Thankfully, Eichel returned for the third period and even managed to help the Golden Knights score a goal in the final frame! Here’s how NHL fans reacted to Eichel’s unfortunate collision into Tkachuk.

9 stunning photos and videos of Adin Hill’s stretching stick save on Nick Cousins in Game 1

What. A. Save.

Adin Hill has been a huge part of the Vegas Golden Knight’s run to the Stanley Cup Final, and it was one save in Game 1 of the title series against the Florida Panthers that may be the one everyone remembers if the goaltender’s team hoists the Cup later this month.

On a Tic-Tac-Toe play in which the puck came on to the stick of Panthers center Nick Cousins, the net was wide open.

Except for Hill’s outstretched stick. The puck found the taped blade for the save of the game — of the series? — on Saturday night, leaving everyone in awe (and remembering Braden Holtby’s save against … the Golden Knights!).

6 big-name celebrities who are huge Vegas Golden Knights fans

Don’t be surprised to see Lil’ Jon sitting near the ice in Las Vegas

The Vegas Golden Knights are no longer the new guys in the NHL, but their charmed existence since entering the league in 2017 has led to their popularity exploding in recent years.

A run to the Stanley Cup Final in their first season proved hockey in Las Vegas would work. Now they’re back in the Final again, facing off against the Florida Panthers and the only guarantee is that one of the teams will come away with their first championship in franchise history.

Which is why it won’t be surprising to see some major celebrities sitting in the rink. Here’s a list of the big name supporters of the Knights to look out for. We have a similar list for the Florida Panthers here.

Predicting the 2023 Stanley Cup Final between the Panthers and Golden Knights

The 2023 Stanley Cup Final is here!

The road to the Stanley Cup Final certainly had its twists and turns this year.

The 2023 Stanley Cup Final officially begins on Saturday night, with the Florida Panthers and Vegas Golden Knights set to duke it out for the NHL’s top prize. For the first time since the St. Louis Blues won in 2019, the NHL will see a first-time Stanley Cup winner when either the Panthers or Golden Knights emerge victorious by series’ end.

Though the playoffs did not play out in the way many expected them to, the Panthers and Golden Knights are no less deserving of being here. After all, the Panthers took down the NHL’s best regular season team ever in a seven-game series to open the postseason. An unconventional Stanley Cup Final this may be, but the Panthers and Golden Knights fought hard to get here at the precipice of greatness.

So, before the main event, let’s predict which team will win the 2023 Stanley Cup Final!

Golden Knights goalie Adin Hill made an incredible one-handed save against the Stars in Game 5

Goalie Adin Hill made the save of a lifetime for the Golden Knights on Saturday night.

Vegas Golden Knights goalie Adin Hill made one of the most beautiful saves you’re likely to see in the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs… or in any Stanley Cup playoffs for that matter.

As Dallas Stars winger Joel Kiviranta looked well-positioned to give his team the 3-2 advantage over Vegas in the third quarter, a falling Hill reached out his hand and blocked the shot right before it went into the goal.

It was a true last-second save for Hill, one that kept the game tied as the Golden Knights were trying to wrap up Game 5 of the Western Conference finals on Saturday night.

The level of difficulty on this save highlighted why elite goaltending is crucial in the playoffs. Hill showed why he’s a force to be reckoned with on the ice with this incredible stop.

The zoom-in just shows you how stunning Hill’s save really was.

It’s the kind of move that makes a season highlight reel now matter how the playoff series ends.

Nicolas Hague laughed at Max Domi for trying to fight him during Golden Knights’ rout of Stars

The Dallas Stars were NOT having a good Tuesday night.

Things are not going very well for the Dallas Stars during Game 3 of the Western Conference finals.

The team fell behind 4-0 in the game’s second period in front of the home crowd, and Stars center Max Domi couldn’t even pick a fight on the ice without Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Nicolas Hague laughing at him.

Domi hit Hague with a nasty shot as the two were going for the puck, and something Hague did after the hit caused Domi to approach him for a shove and an on-ice scuffle.

However, Hague didn’t really fight back as much as get a good laugh in Domi’s quarreling. The Vegas defenseman even jawed a bit at Domi as the two left the ice and threw a thumbs up his way.

Ouch. It’s bad enough that Hague clearly wasn’t into fighting with Domi like the latter wanted. It’s absolutely brutal for Domi that Hague started laughing at how ridiculous the whole situation was.

Things got so rough for Dallas that Stars fans started throwing trash on the ice to display their displeasure in the team’s performance.

Unless the Stars rallied in the third period, they’d go down 3-0 in the Western Conference playoff series with a possible elimination game on the horizon.

The Stars at night were not big and bright, and the whole vibe in the arena showed it.
