Watch: Van Weber, who threw for 33 touchdowns and one interception last year, worked out for several colleges

Van Weber, a standout New Jersey quarterback at Rutherford, had a throwing session this week.

Former New Jersey prep quarterback Van Weber had a Thursday workout for several college coaches to showcase his offseason work.

Weber was recruited last season by former Rutgers offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson. He attended the Rutgers home opener last year, a blowout win of Wagner.

Weber was 127-for-177 for 2,228 yards with 33 touchdowns and one interception last season for Rutherford High School (Rutherford, N.J.). He held a Division II offer that he turned down so that he could re-classify and attend Milford Academy (Berlin, N.Y) for this upcoming season.

On Thursday, he threw at Rutherford for Nunzio Campanile (tight ends coach, Syracuse who was part of the Rutgers football staff last year), Danny Langsdorf (offensive coordinator at Temple),  Mike Gennetti (defensive coordinator at Merrimack).

Campanile served as the interim offensive coordinator at Rutgers firing a midseason shakeup that saw Gleeson leave the team.

New Jersey quarterback who threw for 31 touchdowns and one interception gets offered by Georgetown

Van Weber, a top New Jersey quarterback, offered by Georgetown this week.

Van Weber pulled in an offer from Georgetown last week, this as one of New Jersey’s top quarterbacks is preparing for a post-graduate year.

Rutgers Wire was the first to report that Weber will go the prep school route with the hope of earning more looks and offers. Last week’s offer from Georgetown is not likely to change that plan. He also holds an offer from Marist and preferred walk-on opportunities to Monmouth, Temple and Rhode Island.

Last season for Rutherford High School (Rutherford, N.J.), Weber was 127-of-177 for 2,228 yards. He had 31 touchdowns and one interception.

Weber is beyond impressive. At 6-foot-4 and 185 pounds, he has good size for a pro-style quarterback.

In September, Weber visited Rutgers football for their home opener, a 66-7 win over Wagner. It was his fourth visit to the program and he told Rutgers Wire that he enjoyed the trip:

“I really enjoyed my visit. This was my fourth time on campus, and every time was super welcoming,” Weber told RutgersWire in September.

“I had previously been to Rutgers for a spring practice, the spring game, and camp. On Saturday, the team looked great and the fans were electric. Before the game, I was greeted by coach Campanile (former tight ends coach Nunzio Campanile) and coach Gleeson (former offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson) where we conversed briefly before I wished them luck and they had to go. All of the recruits were escorted to a section of the stands where my teammate Ryan Ward and I had front-row seats.”

Watch: This Rutgers football quarterback recruit has thrown 26 touchdowns his senior season (and just one interception)

Rutgers football recruit Van Weber is having a solid season for Rutherford.

Class of 2023 quarterback Van Weber is a name to watch, especially with the senior season he is having.

A standout at Rutherford High School (Rutherford, N.J.), Weber visited Rutgers earlier this season for the 66-7 win over Wagner.

On Friday, Rutherford beat Mahwah 42-14 in the North Jersey Section 1, Group 2 quarterfinals. Weber started the scoring for Rutherford with a 65-yard touchdown pass.

With the win, Rutherford is now 9-0.

On the season, he has completed 101 of his 144 passing attempts. He has 1,722 passing yards with 26 touchdowns and an interception.

Here are Weber’s highlights against Wood-Ridge:

Weber moves well in the pocket and has the looks and feel of the pass rush with his patient movement. He throws a nice deep ball and while he needs some mechanical work in terms of his ball placement and accuracy, there are a lot of tools here for a college offensive coordinator to work with in terms of his physical skillset, his natural ability and how he reads the game.
