Gators no longer receiving votes in latest USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll

The Gators received four votes last week, but after two-straight losses, they sit voteless.

Florida didn’t exactly enter conference play with a lot of momentum. It lost three of its six contests in December, and though the team was out of action for more than two weeks with a COVID-19 outbreak — which resulted in the postponement of the SEC opener against Ole Miss — it was able to get back to full strength just in time for a stretch of three-straight Quadrant 1 matchups.

The first of those two didn’t go as planned, as the Gators suffered double-digit losses at home to Alabama and on the road against Auburn. As the team sits at 9-5 on the year and 0-2 in conference play, it is no longer receiving any votes in the USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll after getting four last week.

As far as the rest of the SEC goes, the Tigers are all the way up to No. 4 in the country as they just have one loss on the season. LSU is next at No. 12, followed by No. 17 Kentucky, No. 23 Tennessee and the Crimson Tide, who are coming off a puzzling loss at Missouri, fell to No. 25. No schools outside of that group are currently receiving votes.

Here’s the full poll for the week.

Pac-12 shifts a bit in Ferris Mower’s Coaches Poll

USC moved up one spot in the Ferris Mower’s Poll as Colorado remains on the outside.

[mm-video type=video id=01frgrkwd6qeddbd1z4f playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01frgrkwd6qeddbd1z4f/01frgrkwd6qeddbd1z4f-c5cb6a1ab15456b8511659ad2caee3cf.jpg]

On Monday, the newest edition of the Ferris Mower’s Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports was released. With the Pac-12 Conference seemingly on standstill all across the board, the three schools in the poll remained the same.

UCLA, Arizona, and USC are in the top-10 still, and Arizona and UCLA remained at the same spots (No. 7 & No. 5, respectively).

USC moved up one spot to No. 8, mainly thanks to an Iowa State loss. The Trojans haven’t played since Dec. 18 but are likely going to get back on the court Thursday against Cal.

[lawrence-related id=3498,3495,3491]

The Bruins have been stagnant too and haven’t played since Dec. 11 in a victory against Marquette. Arizona had a couple of weeks off before getting back to it with a victory over Washington on Monday night.

Besides those three teams, nobody else from the Pac-12 is even close. The Buffaloes are probably the best bet to sneak in, but they aren’t in the Others Receiving Votes category either.

The Buffs are 9-3 and were set to play Oregon on Monday before that game got postponed once again. The postponements just keep coming for the Pac-12, and for others in college basketball.

Besides Colorado, it might be a while before any other Pac-12 teams get votes. Oregon has been a disappointment, Cal, Washington State and Stanford are all a mixed bag too, as our latest edition of the Pac-12 power rankings suggests.

Nonetheless, it looks like there will be more Pac-12 teams in action this weekend if everything goes as planned, although anything can change at a moment’s notice.

Gators gain votes in latest USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll

The Gators doubled their votes from two to four in the latest coaches poll update.

Florida has been inactive since a win over Stony Brook on Dec. 22 as a result of a COVID-19 outbreak within the program. That resulted in the postponement of Florida’s SEC opener at Ole Miss that was scheduled for last Wednesday evening, and now the Gators will hope to be ready to go for a home matchup against Alabama on Wednesday night.

UF is set to open conference play now with three-straight Quadrant 1 games, so it will certainly have a chance to buff its resume. However, with the inaction, it didn’t see much of a change in the Week 8 update of the USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll. After receiving two votes last week, that doubled to four despite the team being sidelined.

However, the Gators are still on the outside looking in, unlike several other teams in the SEC. Auburn is the only team currently in the top 10, ranking No. 9. The Tigers are followed by No. 13 Kentucky, No. 18 Tennessee, No. 20 Alabama and No. 21 LSU. Arkansas also received 15 votes but couldn’t crack the top 25.

Here’s how the full poll breaks down this week.

Ohio State basketball moves up again in latest USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll

The Ohio State basketball team continues to move up the USA TODAY Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll despite being idle because of a COVID-19 pause. #GoBucks

The latest USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll is out, and despite having to cancel the last three games because of a COVID-19 pause, the Ohio State basketball team continues to move up.

This week, the Buckeyes have moved up to No. 12 behind a top ten of Baylor (1), Duke (2), Purdue (3), Gonzaga (4), UCLA (5), Kansas (6), Arizona (7), Iowa State (8), USC (9), and Michigan State (10).

Ohio State was optimistic in restarting the season and getting back on the court for the game against the University of New Orleans on Tuesday but made the decision to cancel again because of the lack of player availability and rushing through COVID-19 protocols. The Buckeyes do plan on traveling to Nebraska for its next contest this coming Sunday.

Now, for a look at the rest of the top 25.

Gators receiving votes in latest USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll

Florida received two votes this week, the same as it got last week.

Florida only played one game this week, but it was a good one. The team closed out non-conference play with a convincing 87-62 win over Stony Brook, and the Gators enter SEC play with a 9-3 record, albeit while toting losses from Quadrants 3 and 4.

That win over the Seawolves wasn’t enough to get UF back into the top 25 in the USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll for Week 7, but the team did receive two votes this time, at least. The rest of the SEC fared much better, with five teams getting in the rankings this week.

None of them are in the top 10, though. Auburn leads the way at No. 11, followed by No. 15 Tennessee, No. 16 LSU, No. 17 Kentucky and No. 19 Alabama. Arkansas is unranked but was the second-highest vote-getter outside the top 25 with 36.

Florida plays three of those teams in its first four SEC games, and the opener at Ole Miss won’t be a piece of cake, either. The league is very competitive this year, and that will make things harder for a UF team that figures to be near the bubble.

Here’s how the full top 25 shakes out this week in the Coaches Poll.

Rank Team Record Points Change
1 Baylor (32) 11-0 800
2 Duke 11-1 760
3 Purdue 11-1 712

10 Michigan State 10-2 476

Florida remains outside of USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll

The Gators received even fewer votes in the coaches poll this time around.

Florida dropped out of the USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll last week after a rough few games that saw the team lose to previously winless Texas Southern and a Maryland team with an interim head coach. With finals week in full swing, the Gators had this week off before returning to action against South Florida.

Though UF beat the Bulls 66-55, it wasn’t a particularly impressive performance in a Quadrant 4 game, and it wasn’t enough to get Florida back into the top 25. In fact, the team received just two votes this time around, much fewer than the 17 it received last week.

The rest of the SEC didn’t fare particularly well in this week’s update, either. Alabama fell outside of the top 10 after a loss to Memphis and now ranks No. 11, followed by Auburn at No. 12. LSU is up to No. 16, while Kentucky rises to No. 18 after a win over North Carolina in blowout fashion. No. 19 Tennessee rounds out the rankings, dropping one spot from the latest update, and Arkansas dropped out after losses to Oklahoma and Hofstra.

After an 11-day stretch where the team lost three of four games, UF has a lot of work to do to get back in the top 25. Luckily (or perhaps unluckily) the SEC schedule presents a lot of opportunities for big, resume-boosting wins. But if Florida continues to slip up in big games, it could be a long couple of months.

Here are the full rankings for this week.

Buffs see rivals rise in Ferris Mowers Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll

Colorado’s rivals rose in the Ferris Mowers Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll

[mm-video type=video id=01fptkzbmqjm9f4sjx4s playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fptkzbmqjm9f4sjx4s/01fptkzbmqjm9f4sjx4s-acd1d22ac8cb75bf46ac20db66aec3a0.jpg]

Not surprisingly, Colorado’s recent wins over Eastern Washington and Milwaukee weren’t quite enough to get the Buffs any votes in Monday’s Ferris Mower’s Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports.

The Buffs’ only opponent this week comes in the form of CSU Bakersfield on Saturday and unfortunately, a win here won’t get Colorado much national attention, either. But the Buffs have an opportunity on Dec. 21 to earn some votes if they can knock down Kansas, which remained stagnant at No. 7 in this week’s poll.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the Pac-12 this season has been Southern California. Neither of the Trojans’ wins last week were particularly impressive (Eastern Kentucky and Long Beach State), but they remain undefeated at 10-0 and jumped six spots in the poll to No. 9. Colorado and USC’s lone meeting this season will be on Jan. 20 in Boulder.

[lawrence-related id=2938,2885]

The two other Pac-12 schools in the poll, UCLA and Arizona, also rose. With the help of a road victory at Marquette, the Bruins improved one spot to No. 3. Meanwhile, the No. 6 Wildcats improved two spots courtesy of their 83-79 victory at Illinois.

Neither Arizona nor USC was ranked in the preseason poll on Oct. 27.

And for the first time this year, the 10-0 Colorado State Rams were deservedly ranked at No. 23.

Florida basketball bows out of USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll

The Gators have done nothing in December to earn a spot among the top-25 teams in the nation.

The opening month of the 2021-22 college basketball season saw the Florida Gators put up a perfect 6-0 record to earn a place among the top 25 schools in both major polls. However, since the beginning of December, UF has struggled to maintain its intensity, dropping three of its four games so far, including a Quadrant 4 loss to the previously winless Texas Southern Tigers.

As a result of Sunday night’s loss to the Maryland Terrapins, who earned their interim coach Danny Manning his first win at the helm of the program, Florida basketball finds itself outside of the latest USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll. Previously ranked No. 16 last week, Florida tumbled to an unranked status, collecting just 17 total votes.

Meanwhile, the SEC still has a strong presence in the poll, led by the No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide at No. 8, followed by the Auburn Tigers at No. 14, then the quartet of the Tennessee Volunteers, Arkansas Razorbacks, LSU Tigers and Kentucky Wildcats at No. 18 through No. 21, respectively. No other conference team received any votes.

Here’s the full coaches poll for this week.

Ohio State basketball leap back into USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll

Ohio State hoops is back among the ranked! #GoBucks

The last time the USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll came out, Ohio State was just outside the top 25 in the “others receiving votes” section. But then it had a mighty fine week. The Buckeyes upset No. 1 Duke in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge last Tuesday right after the polls came out, then followed that up with a win on the road vs. Penn State on Sunday.

And … as a result, Ohio State went from the outside looking in, back into the poll at No. 22 according to the coaches that vote on these sort of things.

The Buckeyes still have a way to go to climb up into the top fifteen, and will hopefully be fixing their eyes on a top ten that consists of newly ranked No. 1 Purdue, followed by Baylor (2), Duke (3), UCLA (4), Gonzaga (5), Villanova (6), Kansas (7), Arizona (8), Alabama (9), and Arkansas (10).

If it weren’t for last-minute shots, OSU would be undefeated and further up the rankings as well. The Buckeyes lost to both Xavier and Florida in games away from home that both came down to the wire.

This week, Ohio State faces Townson on Wednesday, then hosts No. 17 Wisconsin on Saturday.

Buffs basketball has difficult schedule ahead, per latest USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll

Here’s where Colorado’s future opponents stand in this week’s USA TODAY Sports Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll

[mm-video type=video id=01fp8myf7tvwyybvfkbn playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fp8myf7tvwyybvfkbn/01fp8myf7tvwyybvfkbn-81059ad1204c8f4be4c4b5111bd5a7dd.jpg]

There aren’t going to be many easy wins left for Colorado once it gets through Eastern Washington, Milwaukee and CSU Bakersfield. Although the Pac-12 has disappointed so far in non-conference play, it’s still one of the better leagues in the country, and that was proven in this week’s USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, powered by Ferris Mowers.

But before the Pac-12 regular season begins for the Buffs, they must host Kansas, which was No. 7 in Monday’s poll. It wasn’t a pretty showing for Colorado against now-No. 14 Tennessee and the Jayhawks should be an even greater challenge.

The highest Pac-12 team in the poll was, unsurprisingly, No. 4 UCLA. Colorado has already played (and lost) at Pauley, but the Bruins will be in Boulder later this season on Jan. 22.

A few spots below UCLA was Arizona at No. 8. The Buffs and Wildcats will meet in Tuscon on Jan. 13 before the Boulder edition on Feb. 26.

Up next in the Pac-12 was No. 15 USC, which has gotten off to an impressive 8-0 start. Tad Boyle has won seven consecutive games against Andy Enfield but that streak will be tested on Jan. 20 at the CU Events Center. One of the biggest breaks the Buffs have this season is that they don’t play USC on the road.

In total, the Buffs have five future games against four different teams featured in the poll.

Also of note, Colorado State, which CU (fortunately) missed on the Rams’ way to winning the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam, was the unofficial 26th team with 79 votes received.
