Wisconsin not included in the final USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Wisconsin football is not included in the final USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll:

Even though the Wisconsin Badgers were able to close out their season with a victory in the Las Vegas Bowl, they were not able to sneak into the final USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. The Badgers finished as the second team receiving votes with 75.

Besides Wisconsin, there was movement among all of the Big Ten teams included in the final poll. Iowa fell seven spots to No. 7 and Michigan fell one spot to No. 3. Ohio State and Michigan State both moved up two spots to No. 5 and No. 8.

The last USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll top 10 for this season includes Georgia(1), Alabama(2), Michigan(3), Cincinnati(4), Ohio State(5), Baylor(6), Oklahoma State(7), Michigan State(8), Notre Dame(9) and Oklahoma(10).

It will be interesting to see where Wisconsin will be ranked to start next season, especially with many of the key members of the defense moving onto the NFL Draft.

Here’s how the SEC fared in final USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

The Gators unsurprisingly received no votes in the final update to the AFCA Coaches Poll.

Florida fans’ worst fears were realized on Monday night when the College Football Playoff national championship game ended with Kirby Smart and quarterback Stetson Bennett hoisting the trophy as Georgia won its first national title since 1980. A disappointing 2021 season had one more surprise in store for the Gators as arguably their biggest rival has finally gotten over the hump to reach the heights of the college football world.

While the Bulldogs stand atop the final edition of the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll for the 2021 season, UF is unsurprisingly nowhere to be found, not even receiving a single vote after its season ended with a Gasparilla Bowl loss to UCF that dropped it to 6-7. It was Florida’s third losing season since 2013.

Alabama came up short in a 33-18 loss, but it still holds on to the No. 2 spot in the coaches poll. The next highest-ranked SEC team is Ole Miss, who dropped three spots to No. 11 after losing the Sugar Bowl against Baylor with star quarterback Matt Corral missing most of the game with an injury.

Kentucky is up five spots to No. 15 after a bowl win over Iowa, Arkansas is up four spots to No. 20 after beating Penn State and Texas A&M fell two spots to No. 25 after it had to back out of the Gator Bowl against Wake Forest due to COVID-19.

Here’s the full final poll as we tie a bow on the 2021 season.

Final AFCA Coaches Poll: How SEC teams rank as the season ends

The final USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after the conclusion of the 2021 season.

The LSU Tigers didn’t finish out the season as they would have liked. They just didn’t have enough offense to compete with the Kansas State Wildcats as they took a 42-20 loss in the Texas Bowl. Wildcat quarterback Jontre Kirklin did his best to keep them in it.

As the season ends we have the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll which was released on Tuesday. Georgia takes home the top spot after knocking off Alabama 33-18 in the CFP national championship game. The Bulldogs handed the Tide their second loss of the year. Perfect revenge for Alabama taking home the SEC championship again.

A look at the full coaches poll after this week’s slate of games.

SEC Champion Alabama back on top in USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Alabama is back at No. 1 after beating Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

Alabama handed Georgia its first loss of the year in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday, and the Crimson Tide is now back at No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

Georgia dropped down to No. 3 after the loss setting up a potential rematch in the College Football Playoff. Michigan gets the No. 2 spot after beating Iowa 42-3 for the Big Ten Championship, and Cincinnati becomes the first Group of Five team to finish in the Top 4.

It’s often said that the SEC is the toughest conference in all of college football, but it seems that there’s a pretty steep drop-off after the two elites at the top. Ole Miss checks in at No. 8, but Kentucky is all the way down at No. 20. Texas A&M and Arkansas claimed the 23rd and 24th spots on the list, giving the SEC three of the last six spots inside the top 25.

Florida hasn’t earned a vote in weeks in any major poll, but the new head coach in Gainesville Billy Napier is leaving his Lousiana team as the No. 17 program in the country. The Ragin Cajuns beat the Appalachian State Mountaineers to claim the program’s first outright Sun Belt Conference Championship.

Mississippi State managed to land a few votes and finished with two points.

Here’s where SEC teams stand in the Week 14 USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Here’s a look at how Florida’s Southeastern Conference peers fared in the Coaches Poll this week.

It was a fairly chalky week in the SEC, aside from the strange game that took place in Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday evening. In the first Iron Bowl game to ever go to overtime, Auburn led 10-0 over No. 2 Alabama for most of the game, but the Crimson Tide stormed back to tie it on a touchdown with less than a minute left.

The game eventually went to quadruple overtime, bringing the new college football overtime rules into play. Alabama eventually held on for a 24-22 win with a walk-off two-point conversion.

The only other semi-surprising result was Florida’s slight upset over Florida State in interim coach Greg Knox’s first game. The victory gave the Gators bowl eligibility, though they’re not even close to cracking the top 25 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

With Georgia’s 45-0 shutout against Georgia Tech and ‘Bama’s win over the Tigers, the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide held on to the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. Meanwhile, Ole Miss held on to its No. 8 spot after a win in the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State despite some movement above the Rebels.

Kentucky blew out Louisville 52-21, and that moved the Wildcats up three spots from No. 25 to No. 22. They’re directly followed by Texas A&M, whose three-point loss to LSU on Saturday night dropped the Aggies to 8-4 and down nine spots to No. 23. Finally, Arkansas is back in the top 25 after a convincing 31-17 win over Missouri. The Razorbacks received the most votes last week, and they’re back in at No. 25 this week.

Mississippi State, whose 10-point loss to Ole Miss dropped it to 7-5 on the season, received two votes, the fewest of any vote-getting team.

We’ll have a No. 1 vs. No. 2 battle in Atlanta next Saturday between Georgia and Alabama for the SEC Championship, and that game could have a significant ripple effect on the potential playoff field. Here’s how things stand in the rest of the poll.

Notre Dame drops in latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

The Irish drop in the latest Coaches Poll

It seemed like Irish head coach Brian Kelly knew that the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll was going to punish them, so he put his starters back in late against Stanford. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened.
