Prediction
Philadelphia Union 2, New England Revolution 1
Money line (ML)
PHILADELPHIA (+100) is a modest favorite against New England (+250). The Union topped the Revs 2-0 in the final game of the regular season on Nov. 8, and they come in a well-rested bunch. New England, on the other hand, had a difficult 2-1, play-in victory over the Montreal Impact Friday at Gillette Stadium.
The Union are 10-2-2 across their past 14 matches, and three of those wins came against the Revs: A 2-1 win in Philly Sept. 13, a 2-1 in Foxborough Oct. 20 and the season finale mentioned above. It’s hard to imagine Philly falling to New England here after such recent domination, with the Union outscoring the Revs 7-2 in the past five meetings, going 4-0-1.
Over/Under (O/U)
OVER 2.5 (-162) is the play in this first-round battle. New England saw a total of three goals in its play-in match. Since Oct. 11, the Revs have seen 26 goals over the past eight matches, or 3.3 goals per outing.
Two of the previous three matches between these two clubs hit the Over 2.5. This one will be no different.
