North Carolina leaps to 2-0 with a 75-48 win over TCU

The North Carolina women’s basketball team delivers statement win in their second game of the season.

The North Carolina women’s basketball team kicked off their second game of the season against TCU with a slow start and strong finish.

Both teams had a share of their own runs in the first quarter. After both teams traded buckets, UNC went on a seven-point run, leading TCU 13-6. The lead did not last long as the Frogs leaped back with an 11 to 2-point run to end the first quarter and take the lead 17-15.

The second quarter went to the Tar Heels, with guard Alyssa Ustby scoring six of her 14 points in that period. TCU was able to push the lead to 19-15, but shortly after that would soon vanish with North Carolina going on an 11-point run. UNC ended the second quarter on top 30-24.

The third quarter was all North Carolina, pushing the lead to double digits early. Deja Kelly scored nine of her 12 points in the quarter as UNC outscored TCU 27-6.

By the time the fourth quarter came, the game was well out of reach—an ideal statement game for the ball club, with contributions coming from everyone. Ustby and Kennedy Todd-Willams led UNC in points with 14 each. Kelly finished with 12, Anaya Poole with 10, and Destiny Adams off the bench with ten.

The team will return on Wednesday as they take South Carolina State.

North Carolina women’s basketball guard Alyssa Ustby makes history in the season opener

North Carolina women’s basketball guard Alyssa Ustby makes history in 91-59 season-opening win over Jackson State University.

The UNC women’s basketball program kicked off its season last night in a big way, defeating Jackson State University 91-59. In the massive win, North Carolina’s [autotag]Alyssa Ustby[/autotag] made history in under 20 minutes of playing time.

According to StatsPerform, in the last 15 years, Ustby is the only player in NBA, WNBA, or Division 1 men’s and women’s basketball to produce a stat line of 15+ points, 10+ rebounds, 5+ assists, 2+ blocks, and 2+ steals in a game while playing under 20 minutes.

Ustby flourished in the season opener, finishing with 19 points, ten rebounds, five assists, three blocks, and two steals in 19 minutes. The impressive outing is not new territory for the Junior, as she was critical to North Carolina’s success last year.

If Ustby can continue to the fill stat sheets like this, then UNC has a good shot at delivering one of their best seasons to date.

UNC is coming off a strong 25-7 season, dancing to NCAA’s sweet 16. Despite the sour 69-61 ending to the eventual champion South Carolina Gamecocks, North Carolina has plenty to build on with high expectations.

Inside look at UNC women’s ACC basketball schedule

The UNC women’s basketball team is gearing up to chase the title, and now with the release of their ACC schedule, we look at their path.

The North Carolina woman’s basketball team has announced their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule for the upcoming 2022-2023 season.

After their 25-7 record last season, UNC’s woman’s basketball program is heading in the right direction, and this could be the year they put it all together. Led by coach [autotag]Courtney Banghart[/autotag], North Carolina finished with a 13-5 record in the conference, dancing to the sweet 16 before losing to eventual national champions South Carolina.

UNC will open their ACC schedule against Florida State on December 29th in Carmichael Arena, the home turf they defended going 13-1 on the previous season. They then have two road games against Virginia Tech to open the new year on January 1st and then travel to Miami for a meeting with the Hurricanes on the 5th.

North Carolina then hosts the Fighting Irish on January 8th before traveling to take on Virginia Cavaliers on January 12th. The next three games on the ACC schedule are at home, hosting NC State on the 15th, Duke on the 19th, and Georgia Tech on the 22nd. They will then hit the road for a meeting against Pittsburgh on the 26th, finishing January in South Carolina against the Clemson Tigers on the 29th.

Their February opens up with their second season meeting against the Cavaliers but this time at home on the 2nd. UNC hits the road on February 5th to take on Louisville and end their road trip against Syracuse on the 9th. They have a short stint at home with Boston College on the 12th, then hit the road again to battle NC State on the 16th.

UNC host two more games at home, taking on Wake Forest on February 19th and Virginia Tech on the 23rd, before capping off their ACC schedule on the road against Duke on February 26th.

There’s a lot of hype surrounding the North Carolina woman’s basketball program this year, and posting another solid performance in the ACC could help get them to cutting nets at the end of the season.

UNC WBB coach Courtney Banghart gives praise to two Tar Heels

UNC Women’s basketball coach Courtney Banghart takes to Twitter to acknowledge the work ethic of two Tar Heels.

The UNC women’s basketball team has been hard at work looking to build on their 25-7 record last season.

[autotag]Courtney Banghart[/autotag] took to Twitter Sunday evening to shout out two Tar Heels on the team for staying locked in, even after the practice was over. The coach shouted out junior guards [autotag]Deja Kelly[/autotag] and [autotag]Kennedy Todd-Williams[/autotag] for working out together with the team managers after practice was already over for nearly an hour.

This type of leadership from the two guards is big for the women’s basketball team’s aspirations of finishing higher than their sweet sixteen finish in hopes for an NCAA title.

Kelly was a focal point of the team’s offensive attack averaging 16.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. Kelly had a dominating game in the 69-61 loss to the eventual NCAA champion Gamecocks, where she dropped 23 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Todd-Williams also had a consistent season with an uptick on the horizon, averaging 10.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. Todd-Williams’s best game of the season came against Arizona in the second round, where the junior ended up with 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

This is an ideal look for a team with high expectations and pressure to succeed this season. UNC kicks off its season on November 9th against Jackson State University.

UNC WBB non-conference games announced

The UNC WBB team non conference schedule has been released with some big names on the horizon in hopes on brining back the NCAA title to North Carolina

The time is almost here for the [autotag]UNC women’s basketball[/autotag] program to take the court, but before they do, more games have been released.

The out-of-conference games have been announced with UNC playing a total of 11 non-ACC teams, hosting five of them. They open up the season against the defending SWAC champions Jackson State in Carmichael Arena on November 9th.

The path gets more trenching, taking on TCU on the 12th, South Carolina State on the 16th, and James Madison on the 20th before competing in the highly anticipated Phil Knight Invitational. The Heels are set to take on Oregon and then either Iowa State or Michigan State over Thanksgiving break.

After the Phil Knight tournament, UNC is on its way to the ACC/BigTen challenge play, set on December 1st when they travel to Bloomington, Indiana to take on the Hoosiers. The next three out-of-conference games are a bit more relaxed taking on UNCW on the 7th, Wofford on the 11th, and North Carolina A&T on the 16th. Lastly, UNC will have their final out-of-conference match-up battling against Michigan on the 20th of December in the Jumpman Invitational.

Last season the team went 25-7, falling just short to the eventual NCAA Champions South Carolina Gamecocks. A few adjustments and this could be a season that ends with the UNC women’s basketball bringing the title back to Carolina for the first time since 1994.
