The UNC Asheville Bulldogs and the 2nd-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide meet at Coleman Coliseum Monday in the regular-season opener for both teams. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (ESPNU). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the UNC Asheville vs. Alabama odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

The Bulldogs of UNCA are expected to finish in the upper half of the Big South Conference in 2024-25. The Bulldogs were 22-12 last season, winning 12 of 16 games inside the Big South. UNCA was a good free-throw shooting team, which aids it in close games, and the Bulldogs added G Jordan Marsh as a transfer from nearby Appalachian State, while G Justin Wright is considered one of the favorites for Big South Newcomer of the Year.

For the Crimson Tide, coach Nate Oats has another strong team. F Grant Nelson and G Mark Sears are back to lead the team, which went to the Final Four last season. Incoming transfers C Clifford Omoruyi and G Chris Youngblood bolster the roster, and 5-star small forward add Derrion Reid gives this team talent from top to bottom yet again.

UNC Asheville at Alabama picks and predictions

Prediction

Alabama 97, UNC Asheville 69

Moneyline

Alabama (-10000) will cost you $100 for every $1 in profit. Needless to say, betting heavy favorites like this is never a good idea. Nobody needs a dollar that badly.

Against the spread

ALABAMA -25.5 (-110) is a strong play in the opener. While this is a rather large number, and it’s possible the new players for the Crimson Tide need a little while to build chemistry, ultimately talent will take over. Look for a somewhat closer game in the first half, or at least closer than expected. However, in the second half, the Tide should pull away for the convincing win and cover.

Over/Under

OVER 161.5 (-115) is the lean in the opener, but don’t get carried away.

Last season, it was all about the Over with Alabama, as it was a talented and fun offense, and the Crimson Tide didn’t pay much mind on the defensive end.

We know that UNC Asheville will be overwhelmed for a full 40 minutes, but this was actually a pretty decent offensive club in 2023-24. The Bulldogs will get their fair share of points.
