The 2024 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, run from July 26 through Aug. 11 in Paris, France. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines for the best men’s soccer gold medal Futures, and make our expert Summer Olympic picks and predictions.

We have 8 matches set for Wednesday, July 24, officially ahead of the Opening Ceremonies, including Argentina, as all 16 Olympics squads are in action for the 1st time.

La Albiceleste, fresh off a Copa America championship victory against Colombia in Miami, gets underway in Group B play against Morocco at 9 a.m. ET.

Spain, which just won Euro 2024, also begins play at 9 a.m. against Uzbekistan in Group C play. Meanwhile, France and the United States meet at 3 p.m. in a Group A battle.

In the 2020 Summer games in Japan — which due to COVID were actually held in 2021 — Brazil won the men’s soccer gold medal, Spain took home silver and Mexico picked up bronze. On the women’s side, Canada won gold, Sweden claimed silver and the USWNT secured bronze.

In the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, host nation Brazil secured the gold medal in men’s soccer, with Germany ending up with the silver and Nigeria coming up with a bronze.

In 2012, it was Mexico topping Brazil in London, with South Korea winning the bronze. In 2008, the medal winners on the men’s side in Beijing were Argentina (gold), Nigeria (silver) and Brazil (bronze).

Going back to 2004, the medal winners on the men’s side in Athens were Argentina (gold), Paraguay (silver) and Italy (bronze). In 2000 in Australia, Cameroon (gold), Spain (silver) and Chile (bronze) were your medal winners on the men’s side.

And, if you remember the 1996 Atlanta games, our medal winners on the men’s side were Nigeria (gold), Argentina (silver) and Brazil (bronze), while in 1992, Spain (gold), Poland (silver) and Ghana (bronze) claimed medals.

2024 Olympics men’s soccer — expert pick

FRANCE (+210)

The men’s soccer tournament was last won by a host nation at Rio 2016 when Brazil claimed the gold medal. Les Bleus look to delight the home fans this summer, and France enters as the chalk to do just that.

As mentioned, a European nation hasn’t won the gold medal in the men’s soccer tournament since the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.

France is in Group A with United States, Guinea and New Zealand. However, if you’re looking for F Kylian Mbappe on manager Thierry Henry’s roster, you’ll be sorely disappointed. His new club Real Madrid was against the idea of their big investment competing in the Olympic format.

Alexandre Lacazette, who plays for Lyon in French Ligue 1, is the captain in Mbappe’s place. Another star France will look to is teen phenom F Desire Doue, who plays for Stade Rennais in Ligue 1.

Being the host nation, while having several strong club players, gives France the upper hand — or leg — in the men’s tournament.

2024 Olympics men’s soccer — contender

MOROCCO (+1400)

Morocco has never won an Olympic medal in men’s soccer, but Atlas Lions have a very good chance of not only getting on the podium, but winning the whole thing.

We saw the quality of Moroccan football at the World Cup in Qatar in 2022, as they captured the imagination of fans everywhere, upsetting Spain in the Round of 16 and taking down Portugal 1-0 in the quarterfinals before eventually bowing out against France in the semis. It also lost the 3rd-place match to Croatia, but still made its presence as a world power known.

Manager Tarik Sektioui has plenty of star power on his squad, and a lot of the players are known to French fans, playing club soccer all around the country. In fact, MFs Amir Richardson (Stade de Reims), Yassine Kechta and Oussama Targhalline (Le Havre AC), F Eliesse Ben Seghir (AS Monaco), MF Benjamin Bouchouari (Saint-Etienne) and D Achraf Hakimi (Paris-St. Germain) all play in France for a paycheck.

It gets real in a hurry for Morocco as it opens against Argentina. But, it’s a watered-down Argentina as most of its major stars — who won the past 2 Copa Americas and the World Cup — are sitting out this tourney.

2024 Olympics men’s soccer — long shot

UKRAINE (+3000)

This isn’t some kind of conspiracy theory, but how much of a feel-good story would it be if The Blue and Yellow were able to make a run in the Paris games, taking their fellow countrymen’s minds off of the terrible war against Russia, at least for a little while?

Don’t write it off as far-fetched. The national team has been playing home matches in Lodz, Poland, and it collected 4 points in the UEFA Euro 2024, losing 3-0 to Romania, topping Slovakia 2-1 and playing to a scoreless draw against Belgium to just miss a trip out of the knockout stages.

Manager Ruslan Rotan has a squad full of mostly players from club teams in Ukraine, obviously relocated due to the war. That includes MFs Dmytro Kryskiv and Kyrylo Siheiev, who play for FC Shakhtar Donetsk. F Danylo Sikan and GK Kiril Fesiun also play for Donetsk, and MF Maksym Braharu plays for FC Dynamo Kyiv.

Don’t overlook Ukraine as this team might play with more heart than any of the other squads in the Olympics combined.

Germany vs. Ukraine picks and predictions

Prediction

Germany 2, Ukraine 0

Moneyline (ML)

PASS.

Despite not getting to the knockout stage in the World Cup, Germany is one of the most complete teams in the world. From the backline to the forwards, it has enough depth and firepower to light up a thin Ukraine side.

While the score in the Ukraine-England friendly was 2-0, Ukraine was held without a shot on target while England had 8 and 18 shots in total. Germany isn’t that far off England in terms of talent, but at (-300), it is far too expensive to play outright.

Over/Under (O/U)

TAKE ALTERNATE UNDER 2.5 (+140).

These teams have played 8 times in their history, and the Under at this total is 4-4. However, it is a friendly, so the top talent for Germany may not be available or may see limited minutes.

That said, Ukraine did hold England to just 2 goals and was heavily limited offensively, which should be repeated by a strong German backline. Germany has gone Under this total in 8 of its 13 matches since the start of 2022, so scoring hasn’t been a key component for it lately either.

Put it all together and take the UNDER 2.5 (+140).

Euro 2020: Ukraine vs. England odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Ukraine vs. England odds and lines, with UEFA EURO 2020 picks, tips, predictions and best bets.

In the final quarterfinal match of Euro 2020, England takes on Ukraine Saturday at 3 p.m. ET at Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy. Below, we preview the Ukraine vs. England odds and lines and make our best Euro 2020 bets, picks and predictions.

England knocked off Germany in a strong 2-0 showing in the Round of 16. Winger Raheem Sterling was excellent alongside F Harry Kane while the backfield gave up just 3 shots on target.

Taking on the tournament favorite is Ukraine.

Ukraine, after a 1-1 first half, took Sweden to extra time and scored in stoppage time of the second extra session.

Prediction

England 2, Ukraine 0

Money line (ML)

“LEAN” to ENGLAND (-250) despite the seriously high price. There’s no way I’d suggest taking anything else in this match. However, there are better bets favoring England.

On BetMGM, you can get England to tie the first half and win the game at +290. England hasn’t conceded a goal this entire tournament, and 3 of its 4 goals have come in the second half.

England’s skill and pace are what’s important. It’ll wear Ukraine down, and win this game in the second half. That’s why the +290 odds yield more risk, but is the better side.

Ukraine has a defense that will be scored on as it has given up a goal in each of its four games, even to North Macedonia. England doesn’t get going to the second half, even in “easy” games.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the UNDER (-135) because this is a pretty solid price to pay to bet on an English defense that has yet to give up a goal this tournament. On the other hand, England’s offense hasn’t been great, scoring just 3 goals in 4 games.

Ukraine scored 2 goals in three of its four games and lost the other one to a now-eliminated Austria side 1-0.

Euro 2020: Sweden vs. Ukraine odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Sweden vs. Ukraine odds and lines, with UEFA EURO 2020 picks, tips, predictions and best bets.

In the last match of the Round of 16, Sweden takes on Ukraine Tuesday at Euro 2020, with the winner playing the victor of Germany and England. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. ET at Hampden Park in Glasglow, Scotland. Below, we preview the Sweden vs. Ukraine odds and lines and make our best Euro 2020 bets, picks and predictions.

Sweden is coming in with the momentum after winning a group including Round of 8 participant Spain. Sweden drew Spain 0-0, beat Slovakia 1-0, and beat Poland 3-2.

Sweden is 18th in the FIFA World Rankings and will be taking on 24th-ranked Ukraine, which finished third in Group C.

Both the Netherlands and Austria have been eliminated, so Ukraine is all that’s left of its group. It lost 3-2 to the Netherlands and 1-0 to Austria, while defeating North Macedonia 2-1.

Prediction

Sweden 1, Ukraine 0

Money line (ML)

BET on SWEDEN (+140). While it hasn’t been the drastically better team historically, it has proven to be better over the past week. Neither country has ever made it to a Euro Final.

Sweden will look to change that as it comes in with two wins and a draw this tournament. With just 4 goals in the group stage, it’s the Swedish defense that’s taken its level of play to the next level in allowing just 2 goals through three games.

As for Ukraine, it has struggled to score. West Ham F Andriy Yarmolenko and Gent F Roman Yaremchuk have scored all 4 Ukraine goals. Sweden should be able to shut them down.

Leipzig MF Emil Forsberg has been the most lethal Swedish player. It’s more about the defensive strength as only four teams allowed fewer goals in the group stage.

Sweden will be able to lock up Ukraine and win this game. With a plus-money bet, this one should end in regulation. Sweden to advance at -150 isn’t quite as good of a value.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS on the total as the Under 2.5 (-190) is the far better bet but just too pricey. Sweden has given up 2 goals and scored just 4. Ukraine has given up 5 and scored just 4.

Those numbers don’t bode well for the Over. Neither team has big-name strikers that will carry its attack while both have proven to have relatively formidable defenses.

The Under 1.5 at +150 is a reasonable value, but even then, it’s a pass with a lean to the Under 2.5.
