Updated Georgia injury report ahead of UGA vs Georgia Tech

The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (11-0, 8-0 SEC) are set to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (6-5, 4-3 ACC) in the latest edition of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate to cap off the regular season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET in Bobby Dodd Stadium, televised on ABC.

The Bulldogs didn’t escape last week’s 38-10 win at No. 21 Tennessee without injuries. Georgia lost starting right guard Tate Ratledge to a knee injury and wide receiver Rara Thomas to a foot injury.

Starting wideout Ladd McConkey played limited snaps due to an ankle injury suffered the week prior, while defensive lineman Warren Brinson didn’t make the trip to Knoxville due to a calf strain.

It’s safe to assume the Bulldogs won’t be rushing players back this week with an SEC Championship battle with No. 8 Alabama slated for Dec. 2.

Here’s our updated Georgia injury report, including recent quotes from head coach Kirby Smart:

Watch: Georgia takes shot at Tennessee with victory highlight video

No. 1 Georgia reeled off its 28th-straight SEC win with a 38-10 victory over then No. 18 Tennessee last week, a conference record.

Both fan bases circled this year’s game on the calendar ahead of the season after the No. 3 Bulldogs and No. 1 Volunteers battled it out in Sanford Stadium a year ago. Georgia walked away with a 27-13 win and went on to secure another national championship.

Tennessee’s 2023 season didn’t live up to the hype ahead of this year’s matchup, and the Vols entered the game with a 7-3 record and just three conference wins.

Even though the Bulldogs were two-score favorites entering the matchup, plenty of banter among fanbases helped create a rowdy atmosphere in Neyland Stadium.

The Georgia football creative video team released its “Victory Highlights” on Tuesday, which includes a rendition of Tennessee’s famous fight song “Rocky Top”, heated remarks from Vols faithful and sound bites from UGA’s coaching staff.

Tennessee fans will have to wait until 2024 if they want to see the Volunteers beat Georgia.

Georgia DB Malaki Starks talks ‘Hate Week’ ahead of Georgia Tech

Georgia DB Malaki Starks talks ‘Hate Week’ ahead of Georgia Tech

The Georgia-Georgia Tech rivalry may not be as competitive lately as it used to be, but the Bulldogs aren’t treating Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate lightly by any means.

Georgia’s staff has instilled intensity in practice this week leading up to the 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff (ABC) in Bobby Dodd Stadium. Bulldogs safety Malaki Starks described “Hate Week” preparation to the media on Tuesday.

“It’s intense,” Starks said. “It’s Hate Week. Everything kind of goes up a little more … Georgia Tech week around here, there’s nothing playful about it.”

The undefeated Bulldogs have four on-field assistant coaches on staff that played in the rivalry as UGA players themselves: head coach Kirby Smart, offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, wide receivers coach Brian McClendon and co-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.

“Coach Smart gave us a history lesson earlier this week … Just a history lesson about Georgia and Georgia Tech and how long it goes,” Starks said.

On the flip side, Georgia Tech has its fair share of players and coaches familiar with the rivalry. Head coach Brent Key is a former Yellow Jacket and offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner served as an assistant under Smart in Athens.

Former Georgia wide receiver Dominick Blaylock and tight end Brett Seither will suit up for the first time against their former team after transferring in the offseason.

The Bulldogs have controlled the series easily as of late, winning five-straight by a combined total score of 217-49. That said, the Yellow Jackets, who have two ranked wins on the season (Miami, UNC), would like nothing more than to throw a wrench in Georgia’s season before next week’s matchup with No. 8 Alabama in the SEC championship game.

ESPN host says Kirby Smart will win more national titles than Nick Saban

ESPN host says Kirby Smart will win more national titles than Nick Saban

No. 1 Georgia football is a lock to beat No. 8 Alabama in the SEC Championship and win the College Football Playoffs, per SEC Network host Peter Burns.

Burns recently joined Dawgnation’s Mike Griffith on his podcast “On the Beat” and shared his thoughts on the Bulldogs’ historic run.

Georgia has won 38 consecutive regular season games and 28-straight SEC games. Head coach Kirby Smart has played for three national titles, winning two, in his first seven seasons. The Bulldogs have a chance to become the first team to three-peat since Minnesota in the 1930s.

“I ain’t picking against Georgia until they lose a game,” Burns said. “I don’t care if its the rest of the season, I don’t care if its 2025, I don’t care if its 2031.”

When comparing Smart’s run to Alabama’s Nick Saban, arguably the best coach in college football history, Burns was adamant that he would take Smart over Saban in terms of national titles.

“If you told me who is going to have more national championships underneath their belt, Nick Saban or Kirby Smart, I would absolutely put my money on Kirby Smart.”

Smart and the Bulldogs have plenty of work to do to belong in the conversation with the Crimson Tide, who have won six national championships under Saban since taking the job in 2007.

Smart certainly isn’t worried about national title comparisons to his former mentor. Georgia Tech is the focus this week as the Bulldogs prepare to take on the Yellow Jackets (6-5, 5-3 ACC) in Clean, Old Fashioned Hate.

Kickoff is set for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET in Bobby Dodd Stadium, televised on ABC.

Georgia QB Carson Beck in midst of historic run

Carson Beck keeps building on this SEC record…

The undefeated Georgia Bulldogs sit at No. 1 in the country entering the final week of the regular season. Georgia Tech is the last hurdle before taking on No. 8 Alabama in the SEC Championship on Dec. 2.

Preseason questions focused on how the new-look offense would perform under first-year offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and first-year starting quarterback Carson Beck. It’s safe to say the critics no longer have a leg to stand on considering how efficient his attack has been to this point.

The Bulldogs rank fourth in the nation in total offense and fifth in scoring offense. Beck’s outstanding play is a major reason Georgia scores with the best offenses in the entire country.

The junior is quietly on an historic run that will cement his name in SEC record books. Beck is the only quarterback in conference history to pass for 250 yards or more in each of his first 11 games.

Kenny Hill reeled off seven straight for Texas A&M in 2014. The next best number is three, held by multiple players.

Beck sits second in the SEC in completion percentage (72.9%), passing yards (3,320) and passing touchdowns (21). While the numbers don’t eclipse those of Jayden Daniels or Bo Nix, Beck should be near the top of the Heisman conversation.

Beck and the Bulldogs will kick off against the Yellow Jackets at 7:30 p.m. ET in Bobby Dodd Stadium. The game will air on ABC.

Georgia TE Brock Bowers named semifinalist for Biletnikoff Award

Georgia TE Brock Bowers named semifinalist for Biletnikoff Award

With one week of the regular season remaining, national college football awards are narrowing down possible selections.

Georgia star tight end Brock Bowers has been named as a semifinalist for multiple awards, including the Biletnikoff Award, given to the most outstanding receiver at any position.

The award named Bowers, the only tight end, among nine other semifinalists on Monday.

  • Brock Bowers (TE), Georgia
  • Luther Burden III (WR), Missouri
  • Keon Coleman (WR), Florida State
  • Troy Franklin (WR), Oregon
  • Marvin Harrison Jr. (WR), Ohio State
  • Xavier Legette (WR), South Carolina
  • Malik Nabers (WR), LSU
  • Rome Odunze (WR), Washington
  • Brian Thomas Jr. (WR), LSU
  • Malik Washington (WR), Virginia

Bowers leads the Bulldogs in receptions (51), receiving yards (661) and receiving touchdowns (6) this season despite missing two games due to an ankle injury that required TightRope surgery.

The two-time All-American and last year’s John Mackey Award winner will go down as one of the best players in Georgia history.

Biletnikoff Award finalists will be announced on Nov. 28 and the winner will be named on Dec. 8.

Bowers and the undefeated Bulldogs will take on rival Georgia Tech (6-5, 5-3 ACC) on Saturday for the last matchup of the regular season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, televised on ABC.

No. 1 Georgia football (10-0, 7-0 SEC) will visit No. 18 Tennessee (7-3, 3-3 SEC) this week for the Bulldogs’ last SEC matchup of the regular season.

The Volunteers are coming off a 36-7 drubbing by No. 9 Missouri a week ago, while Georgia is riding high after a top-10 win over Ole Miss, 52-17.

This year’s matchup doesn’t hold the same weight as it did a year ago. In 2022, Tennessee entered the game as the No. 1 team in the College Football Playoff Rankings with a national championship on its mind.

The Bulldogs, then No. 3, dominated the Volunteers, 27-13, and never looked back on their way to a second consecutive title.

The SEC East is already clinched by Georgia, but the Vols have an opportunity to leave a stain on the Bulldogs’ season with a home win.

Here’s everything you need to know before kickoff:

The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (10-0, 7-0 SEC) are set to take on the No. 18 Tennessee Volunteers (7-3, 3-3 SEC) in Neyland Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on CBS.

After playing the majority of the season with a slew of injuries to key players, the Bulldogs are the healthiest they’ve been entering their last SEC matchup of the regular season.

Georgia saw the return of star tight end Brock Bowers, starting right tackle Amarius Mims and freshman running back Roderick Robinson in last week’s 52-17 drubbing of then No. 9 Ole Miss.

Besides losing redshirt freshman cornerback Julian Humphrey to an upper-body injury, the Bulldogs escaped the matchup predominantly unscathed.

Here’s our updated Georgia injury report, including recent quotes from head coach Kirby Smart:

Georgia football jumps Ohio State for No. 1 spot in latest CFP rankings

Georgia football jumps Ohio State for No. 1 spot in latest CFP rankings

Undefeated Georgia football jumped the Ohio State Buckeyes for the No. 1 spot in the third College Football Playoff rankings released on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs’ 52-17 win over No. 9 Ole Miss proved enough to eclipse Ohio State, which had sat atop the rankings the first two weeks. The top four:

  1. Georgia
  2. Ohio State
  3. Michigan
  4. Florida State

Georgia has two top-13 wins under its belt with Missouri moving up to No. 9 after a 36-7 win over No. 13 Tennessee, and Ole Miss dropping from No. 9 to No. 13 after losing in Athens.

The stage is set for the Bulldogs to add to their resume in Week 12 with a matchup at No. 18 Tennessee on the schedule. The Volunteers dropped five spots after a 36-7 loss at Missouri last week.

Looking ahead to the SEC championship, Alabama remains No. 8 in this week’s rankings after a 49-21 win at Kentucky.

Kickoff versus the Volunteers is set for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on CBS.

Georgia Bulldogs assistant nominated for national award

Georgia OC Mike Bobo nominated for Broyles Award

Georgia Bulldogs offensive coordinator Mike Bobo is one of 57 finalists for the Broyles Award, which is given to the nation’s top assistant coach.

Bobo is in his first year in charge of the Dawgs’ offense after being promoted from offensive analyst following the departure of Todd Monken to the Baltimore Ravens.

The former UGA quarterback spent eight seasons (2007-2014) in the same role under former Georgia head coach Mark Richt. Bobo was named a finalist for the same award in 2012.

Much was made about head coach Kirby Smart’s decision to promote Bobo instead of starting a national search for the role. Bobo’s track record at South Carolina and Auburn wasn’t successful, which didn’t sit well with some Georgia fans when considering the move.

Bobo has done plenty to silence doubters this season as the Bulldogs sit at fifth in the country in total offense (504.8 yards per game) and sixth in scoring offense (40.6 points per game).

Bobo’s offense is just shy of the program record of 41.3 points per game that he helped set in 2014.

The undefeated No. 2 Bulldogs will travel to Tennessee to take on the No. 19 Volunteers on Saturday for the last SEC matchup of the regular season. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET, televised on CBS.

Bobo’s great play-calling helped the Bulldogs total over 600 yards of offense in Georgia’s recent home win over Ole Miss.
