David Pollack says Georgia clearly has coaching advantage over Alabama

David Pollack says Georgia ‘clearly’ has coaching advantage over Alabama

As No. 1 Georgia prepares to take on No. 8 Alabama in the SEC Championship, former Bulldog David Pollack didn’t hold back with his assessment of the two powerhouse programs.

To Pollack, Georgia has a clear advantage with head coach Kirby Smart at the helm. That statement wouldn’t be a stretch if anyone else other than Nick Saban, a seven-time national champion, stood on the opposite sideline.

Pollack joined former UGA quarterback Aaron Murray and former LSU center T-Bob Herbert on the “Snaps” podcast to breakdown his opinion.

“The better coach is clearly Kirby Smart. Clearly,” Pollack said. “Now I have enough evidence. They’re not going to get penalties. They’re not going to turn the football over. They’re not going to beat themselves. What have we seen from Nick Saban and Alabama the past several years? That discipline that we once saw that was elite of elite has eroded. Penalties up, turnovers have been more consistent.”

What Pollack thinks does have statistical backing in regards to penalties. Georgia is tied for 12th in the country with 4.3 penalties per game, while the Crimson Tide sits 66th with six per game.

That said, Alabama actually has a better turnover margin (plus-7) than the Bulldogs (0).

What Smart does have under his belt, beyond back-to-back national titles. is a stretch of 29 straight wins (SEC record). Saban’s best stretch at Alabama was 19 straight wins (twice).

Kickoff in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium is slated for 4 p.m. ET, televised on CBS.

Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jordan Davis is talented in more ways than you might realize.

Sure, the former Georgia Bulldog makes his money stopping the run and putting pressure on NFL quarterbacks, but he also can hold his own on the microphone.

Davis is recording a Christmas album with fellow Eagles players Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata titled “A Philly Special Christmas,” a follow up to last year’s album for charity.

This clip of Davis preforming “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is going viral on social media:

The album is set to release on Dec. 23.

Georgia’s Kirby Smart talks challenge of containing Alabama QB Jalen Milroe

Georgia’s Kirby Smart talks challenge of containing Alabama QB Jalen Milroe

The matchup is set between No. 1 Georgia (12-0, 8-0 SEC) and No. 8 Alabama (11-1, 8-0 SEC) for the SEC title in Atlanta, Georgia. This is the second time ever and first time since 2009 that both participants in the SEC championship game are undefeated in conference play.

The Bulldogs know that they face a tough test in defending Alabama star quarterback Jalen Milroe, who’s speed and athleticism has proven to be a defense killer in the latter half of the season.

The redshirt sophomore leads the Crimson Tide in rushing touchdowns with 12 and is third on the team in rushing yards (439). Milroe does an excellent job of extending plays.

Milroe is also one of the best deep-ball passers in the country. His 92.9 passing grade on throws of 20 yards or more ranks second in the country, per Pro Football Focus.

Auburn witnessed Milroe’s vertical threat last week when he threw a 31-yard touchdown pass on 4th and goal to secure a 27-24 win in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart spoke highly of Milroe when speaking with the media on Monday, comparing what Milroe does to former UGA quarterback Stetson Bennett.

“He’s a tremendous, tremendous football player…,” Smart said. “I think anytime you can scramble and extend plays a la Stetson, it makes it harder to defend”

Smart doesn’t think designating a defender to “spy” Milroe is as easy as it may seem.

“People do try to spy him, and the spy can’t get him on the ground,” Smart said. “Everybody’s had a different plan of action. Everybody’s done it different ways”

Smart was asked to compare Milroe to former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, who is one of the most productive rushing quarterbacks in college football history.

“No offense to Tim Tebow, but this guy is different,” Smart said.

Kickoff against the Crimson Tide is slated for 4 p.m. on Saturday in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The game will air on CBS.

The former UGA quarterback spent eight seasons (2007-2014) in the same role under former Georgia head coach Mark Richt. Bobo was named a finalist for the same award in 2012.

Bobo and the Bulldogs will take on No. 8 Alabama next in the SEC Championship. Kickoff is set for Saturday at 4 p.m. ET in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, televised on CBS.

Georgia LB CJ Allen earns SEC honor for performance vs Georgia Tech

Georgia LB CJ Allen earns SEC honor for performance vs Georgia Tech

No. 1 Georgia capped off the regular season with a narrow 31-23 win at rival Georgia Tech on Saturday night to put the icing on a third-straight undefeated regular season.

The Bulldogs’ 29th-straight win (SEC record) didn’t come without a fight. The Yellow Jackets played well above their talent level and racked up 363 yards of total offense, including 205 yards on the ground. Georgia Tech’s 23 points is the most allowed by Georgia this season.

One of the bright spots on the Bulldogs defense was true freshman linebacker C.J. Allen, who tied for the team-high with eight tackles. The former five-star recruit was named as the SEC’s Co-Freshman of the Week for his performance against the Yellow Jackets, Allen’s second time winning the award this season.

Allen has played well in place of starter Jamon-Dumas Johnson, who suffered a fractured forearm in Georgia’s win over Missouri in Week 10.

Allen and the Bulldogs will take on No. 8 Alabama for the SEC championship on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET, televised on CBS.

Georgia without Brock Bowers, multiple starters vs Georgia Tech

Georgia without Brock Bowers, multiple starters vs Georgia Tech

No. 1 Georgia is missing several key players versus Georgia Tech.

Starting wideout Ladd McConkey was already listed as out due to an ankle injury before we learned that star tight end Brock Bowers (ankle), wide receiver Rara Thomas (foot) and starting right guard Tate Ratledge (knee) will also miss tonight’s matchup.

Per the ESPN sideline report from Molly McGrath, Bowers participated in warmups and moved around well before not returning to the field after going into the locker room with the team.

Kirby Smart told McGrath that Bowers, who has played in the last two games, has been held out due to soreness in his surgically repaired ankle injury suffered in Week 7.

The Bulldogs are showing caution on the injury front with an SEC Championship matchup versus No. 8 Alabama slated for next week.

You can watch the Bulldogs take on the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta on ABC.

No. 1 Georgia looks to be without starting wide receiver Ladd McConkey as it gets set to take on rival Georgia Tech. The junior was listed as questionable due to an ankle injury suffered versus Ole Miss.

Per a report from Dawgs Daily’s Brooks Austin, McConkey was not present in warmups and is expected to miss the contest.

The rivals will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET in Bobby Dodd Stadium for the 115th meeting of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.

McConkey isn’t the only Bulldog currently banged-up. Starting right guard Tate Ratledge is questionable for the game due to a bone bruise, while wide receiver Rara Thomas is also questionable due to a foot injury.

Georgia will have to play shorthanded tonight with an SEC Championship matchup with No. 8 Alabama on the slate next week.
