The Houston Texans have signed former Georgia wide receiver Tyler Simmons to their 2020 practice squad, following the leagues 53-man roster cuts on Saturday.
The Powder Springs, GA native played in 48 games during his four years in Athens, catching 35 passes for 438 yards and three touchdowns. Simmons also rushed for 220 yards on 17 carries, adding another two rushing touchdowns.
Simmons was the 2019 co-winner of the Kevin Butler Special Teams MVP, awarded at Georgia’s post-season awards gala. He played in all 14 games his senior year, finishing the season with 21 catches for 255 yards, 12 rushes for 89 yards and nine punt returns for 143 yards.
Simmons was not selected in the 2020 NFL Draft but was signed as an undrafted free agent by Houston in late April. Simmons didn’t make the Texans 53-man roster on Saturday and was waived but then signed to the team’s practice squad a day later.
