UFC on ESPN 39 free fight video: Rafael dos Anjos wins epic brawl with Paul Felder

Former champ Rafael dos Anjos may not be on the cusp of a title shot, but he could get back in the picture with a win over Rafael Fiziev.

Former champion [autotag]Rafael dos Anjos[/autotag] may not be on the cusp of a title shot with just two straight wins.

But if he beats Rafael Fiziev (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) on Saturday, it will be hard to deny dos Anjos (31-13 MMA, 20-11 UFC) should be back in the conversation.

Dos Anjos and Fiziev headline UFC on ESPN 39, which takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card airs on ESPN and streams on ESPN+.

Six years ago to the day Thursday, dos Anjos lost the lightweight title to Eddie Alvarez. After a loss to Tony Ferguson later in 2016, the Brazilian made a move to welterweight. His run there was up and down, and after a 4-4 run, he returned to lightweight in late 2020.

He made a quick renewed impression on the division with a Fight of the Night-awarded win over Paul Felder in a main event. And after a 16-month layoff, dos Anjos returned in March and beat the highly regarded Renato Moicano, who stepped up when Fiziev went out with COVID-19.

Saturday, dos Anjos has an opponent in Fiziev, booked for the third time, who has five straight wins and four straight post-fight bonus awards. He’s a +175 underdog at Tipico Sportsbook, but a third straight win over someone of Fiziev’s caliber could have dos Anjos back in the mix at lightweight.

Ahead of that fight, check out dos Anjos’ Fight of the Night win over Felder in the video above.

David Onama awaits new UFC on ESPN 39 opponent after Austin Lingo withdraws

UFC on ESPN 39 is down a man as David Onama awaits a potential short-notice replacement to step in for Austin Lingo.

UFC on ESPN 39 is down a man.

[autotag]Austin Lingo[/autotag] has withdrawn from his bout against [autotag]David Onama[/autotag], which was scheduled for Saturday’s card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Two people with knowledge of the lineup change informed MMA Junkie of the withdrawal but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an announcement.

The promotion currently is seeking a short-notice replacement to fight Onama (9-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC). It is unclear why Lingo (9-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) withdrew from the bout.

Onama, 28, has gathered a lot of attention despite his split two-fight stint in the UFC thus far. After he lost a thrilling, short-notice battle against Mason Jones, he violently knocked out Gabriel Benitez to notch his first UFC win.

The withdrawal marks the second straight booking Lingo has pulled out of.
