Robert Whittaker vs. Khamzat Chimaev preview

Undefeated Chimaev (13-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC), No. 8 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie middleweight rankings, returns for the first time since September 2022, when he defeated former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman by majority decision. Chimaev’s other UFC victories include notables Gilbert Burns and Kevin Holland, among others.

Whittaker (25-7 MMA, 16-5 UFC), ranked No. 4, looks to continue the momentum he picked up from a unanimous decision victory over Paulo Costa in February. The win was his second in three fights and returned him to the win column after a TKO loss to Dricus Du Plessis.

Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler: Odds and what to know ahead of UFC 303 headliner

The long and winding road to booking Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler has finally come to an end. Here’s what you need to know.

The long and winding road to booking a highly anticipated fight between [autotag]Conor McGregor[/autotag] and [autotag]Michael Chandler[/autotag] finally came to an end after UFC CEO Dana White announced that McGregor vs. Chandler will culminate International Fight Week by headlining UFC 303 this summer in Las Vegas.

Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler preview

A showdown between former UFC two-division champion McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) and former Bellator lightweight champion Chandler (23-8 MMA, 2-3 UFC) has been expected ever since they served as opposing coaches on Season 31 of “The Ultimate Fighter” last year. But it’s been a waiting game to finally get the fight done as McGregor recovered from a broken leg, exited the UFC’s drug-testing program and then re-entered it, and filmed a “Road House” remake with co-star Jake Gyllenhaal.

All the while, Chandler has been patiently awaiting his big-money fight, having not competed since a November 2022 submission loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281. It’s been even longer for McGregor, who hasn’t fought since a July 2021 injury TKO loss to Poirier after breaking his leg in the first round.

Both McGregor, 35, and Chandler, 37, have been losers in three of their past four octagon appearances. With their fight being contested at welterweight, it’s hard to say what a win could do for either man in that division, although McGregor is just looking for the biggest fights possible with two bouts left on his UFC contract.

Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler preliminary odds

Accord to preliminary odds on FanDuel, the fight is practically a pick ’em, with McGregor listed at -122 and Chandler -104.

UFC Mexico: Yair Rodriguez a slight favorite to beat Brian Ortega again

Despite the abrupt ending to their first fight, oddsmakers still favor Yair Rodriguez to beat Brian Ortega.

Despite the abrupt ending to their first fight, oddsmakers still favor [autotag]Yair Rodriguez[/autotag] to beat [autotag]Brian Ortega[/autotag].

Featherweights Rodriguez (16-4 MMA, 10-3 UFC) and Ortega (15-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) will run things back in a five-round co-headliner of a UFC Fight Night event Feb. 24 in Mexico City, Mexico.

According to DraftKings, Rodriguez is -170 favorite, meaning a $170 bet would be needed on the former interim champion to return a $100 profit. Ortega is a +142 underdog, meaning a $100 bet on “T-City” would win $142.

Rodriguez and Ortega (15-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) squared off in the UFC on ABC 3 headliner in July 2022. Rodriguez won by first-round TKO after Ortega suffered a shoulder injury during a grappling exchange.

Ortega, who will look to snap a two-fight losing skid, hasn’t competed since then. Rodriguez is coming off a title-unification loss to featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski this past July at UFC 290.

UFC 300 betting odds: Justin Gaethje favored to defend BMF title vs. Max Holloway

The BMF belt will be successfully defended for the first time at UFC 300, if oddsmakers are correct for Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway.

The BMF title will be successfully defended for the first time in history at UFC 300, if the oddsmakers are on point for [autotag]Justin Gaethje[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Max Holloway[/autotag].

After claiming the BMF belt with a second-round knockout of Dustin Poirier in July, Gaethje (25-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) will attempt to defend the strap when he meets former longtime featherweight titleholder Holloway (25-7 MMA, 21-7 UFC) at the April 13 event, which takes place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The opening odds have Gaethje favored to do so, as DraftKings.com has set him at -225, meaning a $225 bet would yield a $100 return. Holloway, meanwhile, is the +185 underdog, meaning a $100 bet on “Blessed” would return an additional $185.

[lawrence-related id=2709456,2709315]

Gaethje hankered for a lightweight title shot vs. Islam Makhachev after his win over Dustin Poirier in July. However, White recently announced a title eliminator bout between Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan, which left many outside observers wondering what was in store for Gaethje.

Should he win, Gaethje will become the first fighter to defend the BMF title. He will also extend his winning streak to three. He rides consecutive victories over Poirier and Rafael Fiziev into the April 13 bout.

Holloway moves to lightweight for the second time in his UFC tenure. Known perennially as the best UFC featherweight not named Alexander Volkanovski, Holloway has repeatedly defeated contenders – just not the champion. The odd situation of dominating other ranked fighters but being 0-3 against the reigning titleholder put Holloway in an unusual position.

In October, Holloway called for a fight vs. Gaethje, who didn’t seem that thrilled with the matchup. However, things have changed and UFC 300 has the third-ever BMF title fight.

The latest UFC 300 lineup includes:

  • Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway – for BMF title
  • Zhang Weili vs. Yan Xiaonan – for strawweight title
  • Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan
  • Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Cody Garbrandt
  • Bobby Green vs. Jim Miller
  • Jiri Prochazka vs. Aleksandar Rakic
  • Calvin Kattar vs. Aljamain Sterling
  • Cody Brundage vs. Bo Nickal

Tai Tuivasa opens as slight favorite for UFC Fight Night headliner vs. Marcin Tybura

Whether or not Tai Tuivasa gets back to his winning ways in March will be a close call, according to oddsmakers.

Whether or not [autotag]Tai Tuivasa[/autotag] gets back to his winning ways will be a close call, according to oddsmakers.

Tuivasa will look to snap a three-fight losing skid when he takes on [autotag]Marcin Tybura[/autotag] in a heavyweight main event at UFC Fight Night on March 16 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

According to DraftKings, Tuivasa has opened as only a slight betting favorite at -125, with Tybura returning as the slightest of underdogs at +105. With odds this tight, there’s a good chance the fight could be a pick ’em or flip in favor of Tybura by the time they’re locked in the cage.

Tuivasa (15-6 MMA, 8-6 UFC) aims to snap a three-fight skid that consists of finishes against Ciryl Gane, Sergei Pavlovich, and Alexander Volkov. Prior to the rough stretch, Tuivasa was on a five-fight winning streak and nearing title contender status.

Tybura (24-8 MMA, 11-7 UFC) is 2-2 in his last four fights. He most recently lost by TKO to Tom Aspinall in July. The fight lasted only 73 seconds.

Deiveson Figueiredo opens as sizeable favorite vs. fellow former champ Cody Garbrandt at UFC 300

In a matchup of former UFC champions, oddsmakers clearly view one more favorably than the other.

In a matchup of former UFC champions, oddsmakers clearly view one more favorably than the other.

Former flyweight champion [autotag]Deiveson Figueiredo[/autotag] will take on former bantamweight champ [autotag]Cody Garbrandt[/autotag] in a 135-pound bout at UFC 300 on April 13 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

According to DraftKings, Figueiredo is a sizeable betting favorite at -310, with Garbrandt returning as a -250 underdog. With these odds, a bettor would need to wager $310 on Figueiredo to win $100, whereas a $100 bet on Garbrandt would earn $250 in winnings.

Figueiredo (22-3-1 MMA, 11-3-1 UFC) recently moved up a division from his longtime home of 125 pounds following his historical four-bout series vs. Brandon Moreno, which ultimately ended without the belt in his possession. The Brazilian shined in his divisional debut in December, outworking perennial contender Rob Font over the course of three rounds to win a unanimous decision at UFC on ESPN 52.

Looking to hand Figueiredo his first setback in the new weight class is Garbrandt (14-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC), who is surging of late with back-to-back victories that brought him out of a rough patch of five losses in six fights. “No Love” specifically asked for the matchup vs. Figueiredo following his UFC 296 knockout of Brian Kelleher, and he got his wish.

Brandon Moreno moderately favored to win UFC Mexico City headliner vs. Brandon Royval

Brandon Moreno has defeated Brandon Royval once before, and the odd are that the former UFC flyweight champion will do it again.

[autotag]Brandon Moreno[/autotag] has defeated [autotag]Brandon Royval[/autotag] once before, and the odd are that the former UFC flyweight champion will do it again.

Originally scheduled to meet Amir Albazi, Moreno (21-7-2 MMA, 9-4-2 UFC) will now take on former title challenger Royval (15-7 MMA, 5-3 UFC) in the new UFC Fight Night headliner Feb. 24 in Mexico City. The fight was recently announced after Albazi withdrew because of an injury.

According to the oddsmakers at DraftKings, Moreno is a moderate betting favorite at -250, with Royval coming back as a +205 underdog. This means a $250 bet would be needed on Moreno to earn $100 with a win; a $100 bet on Royval would net a $205 payout.

In their first meeting in November 2020, Moreno beat Royval after a nasty shoulder injury led to the end of the fight in the first round. Now they’ll run things back 39 months later in the UFC’s return to Mexico.

Moreno will be fighting for the first time since dropping his flyweight title to Alexandre Pantoja by split decision last July at UFC 290. Royval was Pantoja’s first title challenger at UFC 296 but came up short by unanimous decision.

Zhang Weili opens as heavy favorite for UFC 300 title fight vs. Yan Xiaonan

The all-Chinese title fight at UFC 300 is certainly historic, but the odds suggest it’s a mismatch.

The first title fight booked for UFC 300 is certainly historic, but the odds suggest it’s a mismatch.

UFC president Dana White announced earlier this week that strawweight champion Zhang Weili will put her belt on the line against fellow Chinese fighter Yan Xiaonan on April 13 at UFC 300 in Las Vegas. The bout will mark the first time in UFC history that two athletes from China will square off in a championship bout.

As special as the meeting will be, Weili (24-3 MMA, 8-2 UFC) has opened as a heavy betting favorite against Xiaonan (15-3 MMA, 8-2 UFC). According to DraftKings, Weili is listed at -325, with Xiaonan coming back as a +260 underdog. This means a $100 bet on Xiaonan would pay out $260; a bettor would need to wager $325 on Weili in order to win $100.

Weili, No. 2 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie women’s pound-for-pound rankings and No. 1 strawweight, is in search of her second title defense, something she was unable to achieve during her first title reign at 115 pounds. After reclaiming the belt with a dominant performance against Carla Esparza in November 2022, Weili cruised to a unanimous decision win over Amanda Lemos last August at UFC 292.

Looking to unseat Weili will be No. 5 Xiaonan, who is riding the momentum of back-to-back victories over Mackenzie Dern by majority decision and most recently a knockout of former champ Jessica Andrade last May. Xiaonan has lost just two bouts in her past 18 fights dating back to October 2010.

Charles Oliveira listed as slight underdog for UFC 300 fight vs. Arman Tsarukyan

Arman Tsarukyan is facing a tough test against former UFC champ Charles Oliveira – or maybe that should be phrased the other way around.

[autotag]Arman Tsarukyan[/autotag] is facing a tough test against former UFC lightweight champion [autotag]Charles Oliveira[/autotag] – or maybe that should be phrased the other way around considering the UFC 300 betting odds.

Oliveira (34-9 MMA, 22-9 UFC) and Tsarukyan (21-3 MMA, 8-2 UFC) are set to meet at the UFC’s milestone event April 13 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. According to UFC CEO Dana White, the fight is a No. 1 contender’s matchup, with the winner earning a shot at injured 155-pound champ Islam Makhachev sometime this summer.

Oliveira, No. 2 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie lightweight rankings, is expected to have his hands full against No. 5 Tsarukyan, according to oddsmakers, with Draftkings listing “Do Bronx” as a slight +140 underdog and Tsarukyan a -166 favorite. This means a $100 bet on Oliveira could net $140 if he wins, while a $166 bet would be needed to earn $100 off a Tsarukyan win.

Oliveira, 34, got back in the win colulmn in a big way this past June when he took out Beneil Dariush with a first-round knockout at UFC 289. Oliveira won the vacant lightweight title against Michael Chandler in 2021, then defended it against Dustin Poirier later that year. But he missed weight for a title defense against Justin Gaethje and was stripped of the belt. Against Islam Makhachev in October 2022, he tapped to an arm-triangle choke in the second round trying to recapture the title. It was Oliveira’s first loss in nearly five years.

The 27-year-old Tsarukyan has won three consecutive fights, most recently finishing Dariush in 64 seconds for a vicious TKO Performance of the Night bonus to build on a stoppage of Joaquim Silva and a decision over Damir Ismagulov.

Dustin Poirier (surprisingly?) opens as betting underdog for UFC 299 fight vs. Benoit Saint-Denis

Dustin Poirier is significantly higher ranked than Benoit Saint-Denis, but the oddsmakers see “The Diamond” having his hands full at UFC 299.

[autotag]Dustin Poirier[/autotag] is significantly higher ranked than [autotag]Benoit Saint-Denis[/autotag], but the oddsmakers see “The Diamond” having his hands full at UFC 299 – so much so, in fact, that he’s opened as a slight betting underdog.

Poirier, No. 4 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie lightweight rankings, and No. 13 Saint-Denis are scheduled to meet in a five-round co-main event March 9 at Keysa Center in Miami.

According to DraftKings, Poirier (29-8 MMA, 21-7 UFC) has opened as a +124 underdog, with Saint-Denis (13-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) coming back as a -148 favorite. This means a $100 bet on Poirier would yield a payout of $124; a bettor would have to wager $148 on Saint-Denis to win $100. It’s an interesting opening line given both fighters’ experience and stature within the UFC lightweight division.

Poirier, 34, is a former UFC interim champion at 155 pounds who will attempt to rebound from a second-round knockout loss to Justin Gaethje in their “BMF” title fight this past August at UFC 291 this past August. Poirier never has lost consecutive fights during his 15-year professional career.

Saint-Denis, 28, is on the rise in the UFC lightweight division, riding a five-fight winning streak, all of which have been stoppages. The latest of those victories came in November at UFC 295, where he knocked out Matt Frevola with a spectacular head kick in the first round. Poirier represents a huge jump in competition for Saint-Denis, easily the biggest opportunity of his career.
