UFC Fight Night 247 video: Charles Radtke rocks Matthew Semelsberger for 51-second TKO

Charles Radtke handed Matthew Semelsberger his fourth straight loss at UFC Vegas 100, and needed just 51 seconds.

[autotag]Charles Radtke[/autotag]’s power proved to be too much for [autotag]Matthew Semelsberger[/autotag] at UFC Fight Night 247, and it led to a quick win.

Radtke (10-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC) tagged Semelsberger (11-8 MMA, 5-6 UFC) early in the opening round of the welterweight bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, and he didn’t let up from there. He continued to put hands on a stunned opponent until the referee jumped in and waved it off a mere 51 seconds after the fight began.

Although an argument could be made the fight should’ve been let go longer, the decision was made to wave it off. Check out the replay below (via X):

The result marked a fourth consecutive defeat for Semelsberger inside the octagon, and the potential end to his promotional tenure. Radtke, meanwhile, rebounded from his first UFC defeat in promising fashion.

“How’d you all like that f*cking knockout?” Radtke said in his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping. “Respect to Matt, by the way. I thought I was going to come in here and have a dog fight for 15 minutes, but I put that dog to sleep.”

UFC Fight Night 247 video: Da’Mon Blackshear wobbles, taps Cody Stamann in first

Da’Mon Blackshear blitzed Cody Stamann with strikes to set up a first-round submission at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

[autotag]Da’Mon Blackshear[/autotag] flexed his submission skills again in a first-round finish at UFC Fight Night 247.

Blackshear (15-7-1 MMA, 3-3-1 UFC) entered the preliminary bantamweight contest against Cody Stamann in need of a big win, as he lost his previous two fights. At 4:19 of Round 1, “Da Monster” secured a rear-naked choke submission of Stamann (21-8-1 MMA, 7-7-1 UFC).

After a furious combination of punches  sparked by an accurate flying knee to the chin, a rocked Stamann attempted to grab a hold of Blackshear. He was unsuccessful though, as Blackshear sprawled, scrambled, and began working for submission finishes on the ground.

He found Stamann’s back and locked in a rear-naked choke to get the tap in the final minute of the opening round.

Check out video of the finish below (via X):

With the win, Blackshear snaps a two-fight skid while recording his 10th career submission. On the other side, Stamann suffers his third consecutive loss and is now .500 in the UFC.

UFC Fight Night 247 video: Tresean Gore submits Antonio Trocoli in 83 seconds

Tresean Gore made Antonio Trocoli frantically tap out with a standing choke early in the first round at UFC Vegas 100.

[autotag]Tresean Gore[/autotag] delivered the cleanest performance of his octagon tenure Saturday when he finished [autotag]Antonio Trocoli[/autotag] at UFC Fight Night 247.

Gore (5-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) needed just 83 seconds to latch on a standing guillotine choke that forced Trocoli (12-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC) to frantically tap out early in the opening round of the middleweight bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Check out the replay of the finish below (via X):

Gore, 30, was ecstatic after bringing his octagon record to .500 and becoming the first to submit Trocoli in MMA competition. He said he hopes the perception of him is changing after a rough start in the organization.

“I get black belts with that guillotine,” Gore said in his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping. “You’re all going to have to learn to respect me. One step at a time you’re going to see that I’m not just a prospect, I’m a contender.”

Gaston Bolanos vs. Cortavious Romious prediction, pick, start time for UFC Fight Night 247

Bantamweights Gaston Bolanos and Cortavious Romious look to establish their names at UFC Vegas 100. Who has the edge?

[autotag]Gaston Bolanos[/autotag] and [autotag]Cortavious Romious[/autotag] meet Saturday on the main card of UFC Fight Night 247 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Last event: 1-3
UFC main cards, 2024: 91-88-3

Gaston Bolanos vs. Cortavious Romious UFC Fight Night 247 preview

Bolanos (7-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) aims to stay above .500 in his young UFC career. The 32-year-old suffered his first loss in the promotion in his last outing at the beginning of the year, when Marcus McGhee finished him. Bolanos, a Bellator veteran, won his UFC debut against Aaron Phillips last April. … Romious (9-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) makes his debut after a contract-earning unanimous decision win over Michael Imperato on Dana White’s Contender Series in August. It was his second shot on DWCS and he got the job done to enter the promotion. Romious will debut on a two-fight winning streak.

Gaston Bolanos vs. Cortavious Romious UFC Fight Night 247 expert pick, prediction

Getting an impromptu promotion to the main card is a bantamweight bout between Bolanos and Romious.

Romious is a well-rounded fighter with potential, but I was not impressed with his last Contender Series performance despite winning the fight and a UFC contract.

Aside from having a fight that was there for the taking, Romious displayed highly questionable fight IQ en route to ignoring his coaches and corner down the stretch.

Should Romious show suspect decision-making this Saturday, that could spell trouble against a striker the caliber of Bolanos.

The smaller octagon should help Romious’ efforts if the American elects to grapple, but I’m not sure it will be enough to control Bolanos, who has made efforts to improve his grappling.

I’ll take the Peruvian Bolanos to win a competitive but clear decision.

Gaston Bolanos vs. Cortavious Romious UFC Fight Night 247 odds

The oddsmakers and the public favor the American fighter, listing Romious -215 and Bolanos +172 via FanDuel.

Gaston Bolanos vs. Cortavious Romious UFC Fight Night 247 start time, how to watch

Bolanos and Romious are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 8:05 p.m. ET (5:05 p.m. PT). The fight will stream on ESPN+.

Gerald Meerschaert vs. Reinier de Ridder prediction, pick, start time for UFC Fight Night 247

Reinier de Ridder is well accomplished outside of the UFC. How will he fare in his debut against Gerald Meerschaert?

[autotag]Gerald Meerschaert[/autotag] and [autotag]Reinier de Ridder[/autotag] meet Saturday in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 247 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Last event: 1-3
UFC main cards, 2024: 91-88-3

Gerald Meerschaert vs. Reinier de Ridder UFC Fight Night 247 preview

Meerschaert (37-17 MMA, 12-9 UFC) brings his high-level submission game to the cage against a debuting opponent with a lot of promise. Entering on the heels of back-to-back submissions of Bryan Barberena and Edmen Shahbazyan, “GM3” will look to extend his winning streak to three, matching his previous UFC high. … Former ONE Championship two-division titleholder De Ridder (17-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) debuts after a July first-round finish of Magomedmurad Khasaev under the UAE Warriors banner. In ONE Championship, de Ridder won the light heavyweight and heavyweight titles, recording two defenses of the 205-pound title.

Gerald Meerschaert vs. Reinier de Ridder UFC Fight Night 247 expert pick, prediction

Serving as one of the few points of interest on this card is a middleweight matchup between UFC stalwart Meerschaert and newcomer de Ridder.

A black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu who comes from a judo base, de Ridder has achieved titles in ONE Championship’s middleweight and light heavyweight divisions through his standout submission savvy.

That said, Meerschaert, who holds the most submission wins in UFC middleweight history, presents an interesting test for the Dutch debutant.

Although Meerschaert technically stands at 2-4 opposite UFC-level southpaws (though that stat could easily read 3-3 if his fight with Eryk Anders was adjudicated correctly), “GM3” – despite his speed and size – appears to be the more skilled striker of the two.

I could certainly see a competitive grappling fight that favors de Ridder if he can both successfully takedown and scramble with Meerschaert, but I still have a hard time going against the more proven product in this spot.

I’ll take Meerschaert to give de Ridder a luke-warm welcoming that’s reminiscent of Tim Boetch’s win over a debuting Hector Lombard.

The pick is Meerschaert by unanimous decision.

Gerald Meerschaert vs. Reinier de Ridder UFC Fight Night 247 odds

The oddsmakers and public favor the Dutch fighter, listing de Ridder -310 and Meerschaert +240 via FanDuel.

Gerald Meerschaert vs. Reinier de Ridder UFC Fight Night 247 start time, how to watch

As the co-main event, Meerschaert and de Ridder are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 8:35 p.m. ET (5:35 p.m. PT). The fight will stream on ESPN+.

The greatest moments in UFC Apex history? The man on the mic for most of them has a few

The UFC Apex has produced some magical, shocking and mystifying moments ahead of Saturday’s seminal UFC Vegas 100 event, and Brendan Fitzgerald was on the call for many of them.

The 100th Fight Night event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas goes down Saturday with UFC Fight Night 247, and the seminal card has generated a lot of retrospective from within the MMA community.

UFC play-by-play commentator [autotag]Brendan Fitzgerald[/autotag] has been the voice of the action for more than 60 of those fight cards, and he’ll be on the mic again this weekend commanding the action from the commentary booth alongside Laura Sanko and UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping (ESPN+).

Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit and the world was shut down in early 2020, the UFC Apex has been an instrumental part of the organization’s operation. It appears Fight Night events such as what we’ll get again just around the corner are not going anywhere, which means a slew of new moments and memories are still on the horizon.

But before this card happens, however, Fitzgerald reflected on some of the highs and the lows to happen at UFC Vegas events, from Anderson Silva’s underwhelming retirement, to all-time wars of Dustin Poirier vs. Dan Hooker and Max Holloway vs. Yair Rodriguez, to epic knockouts by Derrick Lewis, Jiri Prochazka and others, as well as the strange, unexpected and historic instances.

Check out the video above as Fitzgerald and MMA Junkie senior reporter Mike Bohn go over some of the standout moments ahead of UFC Vegas 100.

UFC Fight Night 247 loses another co-main event one day out

It was a rough day at the UFC Fight Night 247 weigh-ins.

LAS VEGAS – It was a rough day at the UFC Fight Night 247 weigh-ins.

Two fighters missed their marks on the scale. But even though he hit his mark, [autotag]Ricky Turcios[/autotag] (12-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC) was pulled from his bantamweight co-main event against [autotag]Bernardo Sopaj[/autotag] (11-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC), it was announced after the official weigh-ins, for medical reasons.

That fight only had been elevated to the co-main event when an original matchup between former champion Cody Garbrandt and Miles Johns was scrapped when Garbrandt pulled out earlier in the week. Now the middleweight bout between UFC newcomer and former two-division ONE Championship titleholder Reinier de Ridder (17-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Gerald Meerschaert (37-17 MMA, 12-9 UFC) presumably will get the esteemed second-billed spot, though the UFC has not yet made a formal announcement of the changes.

It is not yet known which fight from the prelims will move up to the planned five-fight main card, though all the fights stream on ESPN+, regardless. UFC Fight Night 247 takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

The new UFC Fight Night 247 lineup now includes:

MAIN CARD (ESPN+, 7 p.m. ET)

  • Neil Magny vs. Carlos Prates
  • Reinier de Ridder vs. Gerald Meerschaert
  • Luana Pinheiro vs. Gillian Robertson
