UFC Fight Night 239 results: Marcin Tybura sees own blood, promptly submits Tai Tuivasa

Tai Tuivasa was left snoring thanks to a Marcin Tybura rear-naked choke in the UFC Fight Night 239 main event.

In a division known for power and knockouts, [autotag]Marcin Tybura[/autotag] showed that for a big guy, he knows a thing or two about grappling.

In the UFC Fight Night 239 main event, Tybura (15-7 MMA, 8-7 UFC) overcame a slicing Thai attack and submitted [autotag]Tai Tuivasa[/autotag] (24-9 MMA, 11-8 UFC) by rear-naked choke at 4:08 of Round 1.

Tuivasa drew blood early with a hard standing elbow that gashed Tybura’s forehead. Relatively unfazed, Tybura stood for a few more exchanges. He ducked under a Tuivasa combination and grabbed a double leg. Though Tuivasa initially defended successfully, Tybura eventually muscled him down.

Once on the canvas, Tybura moved from half guard to back mount and landed ground-and-pound all the way. Tybura wrapped his arm under Tuivasa’s neck. There was a brief struggle as Tuivasa attempted not to slip under, but eventually his consciousness evaporated. A few snores later, referee Herb Dean intervened and the fight was over.

With the win, Tybura reenters the win column after a quick July loss to Tom Aspinall. Tybura has now won three of his most recent four outings.

Since his UFC debut, Tuivasa has proven streaky when it comes to results. He started his UFC tenure 3-0, then lost three straight. He then won five in a row, and has since lost four straight.

UFC Fight Night 239 video: Gerald Meerschaert ties Anderson Silva’s record with slick submission

Anderson Silva was unseated as the UFC’s all-time middleweight finishes leader on Saturday – and Gerald Meerschaert was the man to do it.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Gerald Meerschaert[/autotag] tied one of the longest standing records in the UFC on Saturday when he choked [autotag]Bryan Barberena[/autotag] unconscious at UFC Fight Night 239.

Meerschaert (36-17 MMA, 11-9 UFC) notched his 11th finish in UFC middleweight competition and matched Anderson Silva’s all-time divisional finishes record at the UFC Apex. After putting a grappling pace on Barberena (18-12 MMA, 9-10 UFC), he locked in a rear-naked choke/neck crank that put the lights out at the 4:23 mark of Round 3.

Check out a replay of the historic outcome below (via X):

Meerschaert, 36, played it cool in the aftermath of the fight. The longtime veteran told Michael Bisping he made the fight “easy” on himself this time around compared to previous fights, and he intends to relax after joining a legendary figure in the record books.

“What’s next for me, Michael, is a beer and a nap,” Meerschaert told Bisping in his post-fight interview.

UFC Fight Night 239 video: Mike Davis becomes first to finish Natan Levy

Natan Levy is known for his submission skills, but Mike Davis flipped the script at UFC Fight Night 239.

[autotag]Mike Davis[/autotag] hadn’t fought for 18 months. In case anyone forgot him, he returned with a statement Saturday at UFC Fight Night 239.

On the preliminary card at the UFC Apex, Davis (10-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) became the first opponent to finish Israel’s [autotag]Natan Levy[/autotag] (8-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC), who he submitted at 1:43 of Round 2.

Davis edged the first round, but his success on the scorecards didn’t hinder his determination to finish. When the fight hit the canvas in Round 2, Davis worked his way to an arm-triangle choke from mount, squeezed, and got the tap.

After the fight, Davis suggested a matchup against Paddy Pimblett, Jim Miller, Clay Guida, or Vinc (Pichel) next. The victory was his fourth in a row, despite his intermittent appearances.

Levy, who missed weight by half a pound, had a two-fight winning streak snapped.

UFC Fight Night 239 video: Jafel Filho dominates Ode Osbourne, finishes fight with choke

Jafel Filho made a statement at the UFC Apex as he dominated Ode Osbourne en route to a submission.

[autotag]Jafel Filho[/autotag] had himself an afternoon Saturday in Las Vegas.

A rising UFC flyweight, Filho (16-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) put forth perhaps his most statement-making outing when he dominated [autotag]Ode Osbourne[/autotag] (12-7 MMA, 4-5 UFC) en route to a rear-naked choke submission at 4:27 of Round 1. UFC Fight Night 239 took place at the UFC Apex.

The finishing sequence came after Filho mounted Osbourne. As Filho rained down heavy ground-and-pound punches, Osbourne gave up his back. From there, Filho slipped his hand under the chin and squeezed until the tap came.

Filho has won back-to-back fights after a loss in his debut. All three of his UFC appearances have ended inside the distance.

Osbourne loses consecutive fights for the first time in the UFC. His previous outing was also a rear-naked choke defeat – that one, to Asu Almabaev.

UFC Fight Night 239 video: Jaqueline Amorim overcomes referee-induced confusion to tap Cory McKenna

Referee Mike Beltran changed his mind after yelling stop, but Jaqueline Amorim found the tap anyway at UFC Fight Night 239.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Jaqueline Amorim[/autotag] made quick work of [autotag]Cory McKenna[/autotag] at UFC Fight Night 239 on Saturday, even with some confusion mid-submission.

An IBJJF champion, Amorim (7-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) picked up another submission when she armbarred McKenna (8-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) for a tap at 1:38 of Round 1 in the strawweight bout at the UFC Apex. It was the fourth-fastest submission in divisional history.

Despite the fight’s brevity, Amorim locked in a deep submission twice in the same sequence. Prior to the official stoppage, Mike Beltran initially yelled “Stop” as McKenna made a verbal noise in an armbar attempt – but then changed his mind and told the fighters to continue.

Amorim adjusted, rolled and got a deeper torque – and the tap (via X):

Amorim, 28, has now won back-to-back fights since a loss to Sam Hughes in her promotional debut. McKenna, 24, has a two-fight winning streak snapped.

UFC Fight Night 239 video: Thiago Moises calls out Dan Hooker after barrage of leg kicks leads to TKO

Thiago Moises scored just the 17th leg kick finish in octagon history at UFC Fight Night 239, then made a passionate callout of Dan Hooker.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Thiago Moises[/autotag] scored the 17th finish in UFC history stemming from leg kicks on Saturday when he put away promotional newcomer [autotag]Mitch Ramirez[/autotag] at UFC Fight Night 239.

After failing to score a choke in the first round of the lightweight bout at the UFC Apex, Moises (18-7 MMA, 7-5 UFC) methodically picked apart Ramirez (8-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) until he dropped from damage to the legs in the final frame, forcing the referee to step in and wave off the action.

Check out the replay of the finish below (via X):

Moises was fired up after the stoppage, and said he wasn’t pleased about being placed on the early prelims after his original matchup with Brad Riddell fell apart.

The Brazilian doesn’t appear interested in rescheduling that fight, and instead called out a bigger finish in Riddell’s teammate, Dan Hooker.

I was supposed to fight Brad Riddell, but he got hurt,” Moises told Michael Bisping in his post-fight interview. “Thanks for Mitch for stepping up on short notice and taking this fight. This is f*cking disrespect for me I’m the second fight on the card. I’m a main event fighter. So Dan Hooker, let’s get it brother.”
