UFC Fight Night 201 results: Jamahal Hill sleeps Johnny Walker with first-round KO

Jamahal Hill wanted to prove himself as a light heavyweight contender, and he did it with authority.

[autotag]Jamahal Hill[/autotag] wanted to prove himself as a light heavyweight contender, and he did it with authority.

With one perfectly placed punch, Hill (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) knocked out [autotag]Johnny Walker[/autotag] (18-7 MMA, 4-4 UFC) in the first round. It took him less than three minutes to get the job done in his first UFC main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

“(The title is) definitely what I want,” Hill said in his post-fight interview. “I’m ready to come for that. But right now, we’re going to see. I’m going to take a look at the division and see what’s up and get with everybody. I’m going to get with the head bosses and see what makes sense.”

Walker kicked to the body early, then went up high. A minute in, he tried a sinning attack, but Hill saw it coming and countnered with a right hand. Hill circled to the right and pulled Hill into a high right kick. After a scramble on the feet, Walker clinched Hill up and pushed him to the fence. Hill broke away with a knee, then threw a pair of lefts. Hill stalked Walker down and kept him backing up midway through the frame.

But out of nowhere, Hill drilled Walker with a right hand to the temple. Walker fell back immediately and was out.

“I’m feeling great,” Hill said. “I just wanted to come out here and show myself again and show what I can do. It’s time to start having a different kind of conversation, because you all are asking the wrong questions about me. ‘Where’s he going next?’ How good am I for real? Stop doubting. Start believing, ’cause it’s for real.”

UFC Fight Night 201 video: Kyle Daukaus taps Jamie Pickett at the first-round horn

Kyle Daukaus submitted Jamie Pickett with a fraction of a second remaining in the UFC Fight Night 201 co-main event.

[autotag]Jamie Pickett[/autotag] needed to hold on for a fraction of a second for his UFC Fight Night 201 co-main event with [autotag]Kyle Daukaus[/autotag] to make it beyond the first round. But he couldn’t do it.

Caught in a D’Arce choke by Daukaus (11-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) in the closing moments of the 195-pound catchweight fight at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Pickett (13-7 MMA, 2-3 UFC) made the stunning decision to tap out just as the horn was sounding to mark the end of the round.

It was a surprising end to the fight, but not a shocking result. Daukaus was dominating the action up until the point of the submission, and it just made his night easier.

Check out the replay of the finish below (via Twitter):

Coming off a disappointing no contest with Kevin Holland in a fight he was winning, Daukaus officially rejoined the win column, and did so with his signature technique.

“There was 10 seconds left and I felt him tap before the round break,” Daukaus said in his post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “My new nickname is ‘The D’Arce Knight.'”

UFC Fight Night 201 results: Jim Miller TKOs Nikolas Motta, ties ‘Cowboy’ for most wins in UFC history

Donald Cerrone no longer stands alone atop the UFC’s all-time wins list after UFC Fight Night 201.

Donald Cerrone no longer stands alone atop the UFC’s all-time wins list after UFC Fight Night 201.

[autotag]Jim Miller[/autotag] now shares a portion of the record. He upset [autotag]Nikolas Motta[/autotag] on Saturday to secure his 23rd victory inside the octagon, breaking out of a tie for second with Andrei Arlovski and Demian Maia.

Miller (34-16 MMA, 23-15 UFC) cracked Motta (12-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in their lightweight bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, landing a devastating punch followed by nasty shots on the ground for the TKO at the 1:58 mark of Round 2.

The bout was part of the UFC Fight Night 201 main card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on ESPN+.

Motta came out of the gate looking sharp. He tagged Miller with a hard right hook within the first minute that caught the veteran’s attention, but Miller kept his composure and recovered. Miller chopped away with some nice leg kicks and kept solid pressure for the remainder of the round. Motta found a home for some solid counters, but nothing that was as impactful as his shot early in the round.

Miller’s confidence picked up in the second round. He started picking up the output, then lunged at Motta with a clean right hook to the chin that floored his opponent. He battered Motta on the mat, securing one of the most memorable victories of his career.

After the fight, Miller admitted his training camp was difficult due to injuries and family time. He has no intention of hanging up the gloves just yet, though, and said he’s going to keep rolling until the wheels fall off.

“There’s been a lot on my plate, but my goal has been to fight as hard as I can for as long as I can,” Miller said in his post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “You guys will know, and I’m excited to make that last walk to the octagon, but the next one won’t be the last one. I still want UFC 300.”

UFC Fight Night 201 video: David Onama rallies for violent face-plant KO of Gabriel Benitez

David Onama’s power was a game changer against Gabriel Benitez at UFC Fight Night 201.

[autotag]David Onama[/autotag]’s power was a game changer against [autotag]Gabriel Benitez[/autotag] at UFC Fight Night 201.

Onama (9-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) struggled to start the fight, which was contested at a catchweight because Benitez (22-10 MMA, 6-6 UFC) came in heavy at weigh-ins. He took some hard punches and had to battle through a blow to the eye, but when he turned the tables, he turned them hard.

After Onama caught and staggered Benitez with a clean shot, he followed up with a roughly 10-strike combination that sent his opponent crashing to the canvas face first at the 4:24 mark of Round 1.

Check out the replay of the highlight-reel finish below (via Twitter):

A jubilant Onama called for a Performance of the Night bonus after his win, which was his first inside the octagon after losing his UFC debut this past October.

“That’s what I do,” Onama said in his post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “That’s what I’m here for: just show out and have fun.”

UFC Fight Night 201 video: Stephanie Egger taps Jessica-Rose Clark with slick armbar

Stephanie Egger achieved the biggest win of her career with a first-round finish of Jessica-Rose Clark at UFC Fight Night 201.

[autotag]Stephanie Egger[/autotag] picked up the biggest win of her career Saturday when she finished [autotag]Jessica-Rose Clark[/autotag] in the first round at UFC Fight Night 201.

Egger (7-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) needed less than four minutes to beat Clark (10-7 MMA, 4-3 UFC) in the grappling exchanges in the women’s bantamweight fight, which took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Once the fight hit the mat, it was one-way traffic for Egger, who isolated an arm and forced Clark to tap out at the 3:44 mark of Round 1.

Check out the replay of her handiwork below (via Twitter):

After losing her UFC debut, Egger now has reeled off back-to-back victories inside the octagon. She’s trending upward in a 135-pound division that badly needs new blood.

“I hope I can fight as soon as possible, and I’m ready for it,” Egger said in her post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “So give me the next opponent.”

UFC Fight Night 201 video: Chas Skelly TKOs Mark Striegl, plans on ‘maybe not fighting anymore’

Chas Skelly ended his career on a positive note with a highlight-reel finish at UFC Fight Night 201.

It came as a revelation to most viewers when [autotag]Chas Skelly[/autotag] was walking to the octagon at UFC Fight Night 201 that it could be his final fight.

UFC commentator Jon Anik revealed the note as Skelly (19-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) was set to compete against Mark Striegl (18-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC) on Saturday’s card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, but is he really done?

Skelly scored a second-round TKO of Striegl in the featherweight bout, using an inside elbow, then a knee to inflict damage, score a knockdown and finish the fight with ground-and-pound.

After the fight, Skelly was asked by Paul Felder if it was 100 percent his final bout. Skelly flip-flopped on the topic, but was firm in the notion that his body has been breaking down in recent years, and he wants to focus on his roofing company.

“I plan on maybe not fighting anymore after this fight,” Skelly said. “It’s been a long road. I want to go out on my own terms. My body is not holding up the way it used to. I would like to stay on the roster and if they offer me something that’s interesting, then maybe.”

If Skelly did compete for the last time, he ended on a positive note. He earned his sixth stoppage out of eight career UFC wins. The replay of the finish over Striegl can be seen below (via Twitter):

UFC Fight Night 201 video: Chad Anheliger floors Jesse Strader for late TKO

Chad Anheliger’s first octagon triumph came in highlight-reel fashion against Jesse Strader at UFC Fight Night 201.

[autotag]Chad Anheliger[/autotag]’s first trip to the octagon paid off with the biggest win of his career against [autotag]Jesse Strader[/autotag] at UFC Fight Night 201.

Anheliger (12-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC) overcame a knockdown in the first round and rallied to drop Strader (5-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) in the third round en route to the TKO finish in the featherweight bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

The Canadian landed a brilliant counter-left hand that dropped Strader in the midst of an exchange. Anheliger pounced and threw a flurry of ground strikes that forced referee Herb Dean to stop it at the 3:33 mark of Round 3.

Check out the replay below (via Twitter):

After the fight, Anheliger revealed there was nothing easy about getting his hand raised. He said sickness and injuries plagued his camp, but he was able to get through it all.

“I’m so happy with the win,” Anheliger said in his post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “I did not have a great camp. The last few weeks did not go well at all, but we got through it.”
