Loopy Godinez gets record turnaround, replaces Sijara Eubanks at UFC Fight Night 195

Just days removed from her first UFC win, Lupita Godinez returns this Saturday at UFC Fight Night 195.

[autotag]Loopy Godinez[/autotag] returns this weekend after having just fought on Saturday.

The UFC strawweight has replaced Sijara Eubanks, who’s out due to COVID-19 protocols, and is set to take on Luana Carolina at UFC Fight Night 195 on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Godinez usually competes at 115 pounds, she will be moving up a division for this short-notice bout.

The news was confirmed by MMA Junkie following a report by ESPN Deportes on Tuesday night.

Godinez (6-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) picked up her first UFC win this past Saturday, submitting Argentina’s Silvana Gomez Juarez in the first round of their contest. The Mexican fighter had made her UFC debut in her previous fight, coming up short in a split decision to veteran Jessica Penne.

Godinez will make history as the first fighter to compete twice in the span of seven days, a record in modern UFC, non-tournament fights. The previous fastest turnaround was 10 days, when Khamzat Chimaev competed against John Phillips and Rhys McKee in July 2020.

Meanwhile, Carolina, a former bantamweight, will look to secure her second victory of the calendar year. She defeated Poliana Botelho via split decision in May.

Aspen Ladd replaces Holly Holm, meets Norma Dumont in new UFC Fight Night 195 main event

Aspen Ladd is making a quick turnaround from her scary weight miss to fight Norma Dumont in the new UFC Fight Night 195 headliner.

[autotag]Aspen Ladd[/autotag] is making a quick turnaround from her scary weight miss to fight Norma Dumont in the UFC Fight Night 195 women’s featherweight headliner.

Shorty after news broke Holly Holm was forced to withdraw from next week’s event due to a knee injury, the UFC has come to terms with Ladd (9-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) to step in on short notice and fight Dumont (6-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) on the Oct. 16 card, which takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and streams on ESPN+.

MMA Junkie verified the change with multiple people close to the situation, who requested anonymity because UFC has yet to make an official announcement. ESPN first reporter the new matchup.

Ladd was supposed to fight Macy Chiasson at UFC Fight Night 193 on Oct. 2, but the fight was canceled on weigh-in day after she came in one pound heavy on the scale. It was a concerning scene that stirred much discussion within the MMA community, and now Ladd will move up to 145 pounds with hopes of alleviating any issues on the scale.

Dumont, meanwhile, will see a radical change in style matchup as she goes from former boxing and UFC champion Holm to a predominantly grappling-based opponent in Ladd.

The latest UFC Fight Night 195 lineup includes:

  • Aspen Ladd vs. Norma Dumont
  • Andrei Arlovski vs. Carlos Felipe
  • Andrew Sanchez vs. Bruno Silva
  • Manon Fiorot vs. Mayra Bueno Silva
  • Julian Marquez vs. Jordan Wright
  • Ramazan Emeev vs. Danny Roberts
  • Luana Carolina vs. Sijara Eubanks
  • Ludovit Klein vs. Nate Landwehr

Holly Holm injured, out of UFC Fight Night 195 main event vs. Norma Dumont

Holly Holm has suffered a knee injury and won’t fight Norma Dumont in the UFC Fight Night 195 main event next week.

[autotag]Holly Holm[/autotag]’s troubles getting back in the octagon continue with the former UFC champ being forced to withdraw from her upcoming main event.

Holm (14-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC), a former UFC women’s bantamweight titleholder, has suffered a knee injury that has caused the cancellation of her scheduled matchup with Norma Dumont (6-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 195 on Oct. 16.

MMA Junkie verified the news with a person close to the situation who requested anonymity. MMA journalist Ariel Helwani first reported the news on Substack.

UFC Fight Night 195 takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The event streams on ESPN+.

Holm, 39, was scheduled to face Julianna Pena in May, but was forced to withdraw due to a kidney issue that required surgery. She was booked to return to 145 pounds for the first time since June 2018 with the fight against Dumont, but it won’t materialize.

“The Preacher’s Daughter” hasn’t fought since an October 2020 win over Irene Aldana at UFC on ESPN 16.

Dumont, meanwhile, was looking for a signature victory on her resume after picking up back-to-back wins over Felicia Spencer and Ashlee Evans-Smith. The Brazilian has had some struggles making weight at bantamweight, so she moved up to featherweight.

It’s unknown at this time if the UFC intends to book a new main event on short notice or bump an existing fight up the headlining position.

The latest UFC Fight Night 195 lineup includes:

  • Norma Dumont vs. opponent TBA
  • Andrei Arlovski vs. Carlos Felipe
  • Andrew Sanchez vs. Bruno Silva
  • Manon Fiorot vs. Mayra Bueno Silva
  • Julian Marquez vs. Jordan Wright
  • Ramazan Emeev vs. Danny Roberts
  • Luana Carolina vs. Sijara Eubanks

Jim Miller vs. Erick Gonzalez in the works for UFC Fight Night 195 on Oct. 16

Erick Gonzalez has finally gotten his long desired UFC call and will face Jim Miller at UFC Fight Night 195.

[autotag]Erick Gonzalez[/autotag] has finally received his long-desired UFC call.

Gonzalez (14-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will face [autotag]Jim Miller[/autotag] (32-16 MMA, 21-15 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 195, which takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Oct. 16. MMA Junkie confirmed with sources close to the matchup that verbal agreements are in place.

Winner of four of his past five, Gonzalez has competed for the majority of his career under the Combate Americas banner. The 29-year-old is coming off back-to-back wins – a finish over Oziel Rodriguez in March and a unanimous decision over Samuel Alvarez in August. Gonzalez has called for a “dream fight” against Donald Cerrone on multiple occasions and although he didn’t get his wish, he still got the call to the octagon to face another legend in Miller.

Scheduled to make his 38th walk to the octagon, Miller will look to snap a two-fight losing skid. He is coming off back-to-back unanimous decision losses to Vinc Pichel and Joe Solecki, with his last win coming in the form of a first-round “Performance of the Night” submission of Roosevelt Roberts in June 2020. Miller was scheduled to square off with Nikolas Motta at UFC Fight Night 192 on Sept. 18, but for the first time in his career, he had to pull out of the fight after testing positive for COVID-19.

With the addition, the current lineup for UFC Fight Night 195 includes:

  • Norma Dumont vs. Holly Holm
  • Andrei Arlovski vs. Carlos Felipe
  • Julian Marquez vs. Jordan Wright
  • Kennedy Nzechukwu vs. Da Un Jung

  • Luana Carolina vs. Maryna Moroz
  • Ariane Carnelossi vs. Istela Nunes
  • Andrew Sanchez vs. Bruno Silva
  • Marcelo Rojo vs. TBA
  • Mayra Bueno Silva vs. Manon Fiorot
  • Ramazan Emeev vs. Danny Roberts
  • Danaa Batgerel vs. Brandon Davis
  • Erick Gonzalez vs. Jim Miller

Miesha Tate tests positive for COVID-19; UFC headliner vs. Ketlen Vieira postponed

Miesha Tate’s return to a UFC main event will have to wait due to a positive COVID-19 test.

[autotag]Miesha Tate[/autotag]’s return to a UFC main event will have to wait.

Tate (19-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC), a former UFC women’s bantamweight champion, has tested positive for COVID-19 and will no longer fight [autotag]Ketlen Vieira[/autotag] (11-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 195 on Oct. 16.

MMA Junkie confirmed the news with a person close to the situation following an initial report from Sherdog. The bout is likely to be postponed to a new date, but nothing has been finalized at this time as Tate awaits a clean bill of health.

Tate, 35, ended a five-year retirement in July when she outworked Marion Reneau for a third-round TKO at UFC on ESPN 26. “Cupcake” won the title in 2016 when she submitted Holly Holm but lost it shortly thereafter to Amanda Nunes, who still holds the belt to this day.

Vieira, 29, meanwhile, has alternated losses and wins over her past four bouts. She’s coming off a unanimous decision defeat to Yana Kunitskaya at UFC Fight Night 185 in February.
