Gutierrez holds a 4.30-to-2.15 significant strikes landed per minute advantage. Gutierrez, a.k.a. “El Guapo”, has posted a 4-0-1 record since making his UFC debut March 23, 2019. His last victory at UFC 258 in Feb. was a unanimous-decision win over Andre Ewell.

Colares has alternated wins and losses in his four fights since arriving at the UFC. While he was doing great work on the canvas, recording five submission wins in his first seven professional fights, all four of his bouts at the UFC level have gone the distance.

Gutierrez (-250) will cost you two and a half times your potential return, and that’s a bit much. Instead, get more specific.

While I expect the favorite to pick up the win, it won’t be easy. Colares has been pushing his opponents to the limit lately, and your best best is GUTIERREZ ON POINTS (-109) at near even-money instead.

Over/Under (O/U)

YES (-200): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? is a little on the expensive side, but that’s the play since I like Gutierrez on points. Risking two times your potential return isn’t terribly out of line.

Mazo is coming off a loss last time out in Feb. against Alexis Davis by way of unanimous decision. That snapped a three-bout win streak, including a victory over Justine Kish in Sept. 2020. Four of her five fights at the UFC level have gone the distance.

The southpaw Agapova has split a pair of fights at the UFC level, topping Hannah Cifers via submission at her UFC debut in June 2020 and getting dropped by a second-round KO/TKO against Shana Dobson two months later.

MAZO (-200) is a punching machine, and laying two times your potential return isn’t terribly out of line, although slightly risky.

The Colombian fighter holds a 6.56-to-3.70 significant strikes landed per minute advantage over her counterpart, while the Kazakh fighter is better if she can get it to the mat.

Over/Under (O/U)

NO (+130): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? is worth a roll of the dice as Agapova hasn’t had a pro fight go the distance since July 2019 at Dana White’s Contender Series: Season 3, Week 6. That was one of just three of 11 career pro fights to go the distance.

As such, I also like MAZO BY TKO/KO (+370) for a small-unit play with a chance to near quadruple up. In addition, a two-round block taking MAZO TO WIN IN ROUND 2 (+850) and MAZO TO WIN IN ROUND 3 (+1400) is worth playing. Yes, you’ll lose one of the ends, but if Mazo wins in Rounds 2-3, you’ll be well ahead.

The southpaw Elliott has bounced back from a three-bout losing skid with back-to-back unanimous-decision victories over Jordan Espinosa and Ryan Benoit. His losses were against Deiveson Figueiredo, Askar Askarov and Brandon Royval, and those are nothing to be ashamed about.

Nicolau is working on a three-bout win streak, including a split-decision win over Manel Kape his last time out in March. It’s been over three calendar years since his last setback, a first-round KO/TKO against Dustin Ortiz in July 2018.

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Nicolau (-200) is a little on the expensive side for me, but I think he is going to win. Get specific and take NICOLAU BY SUBMISSION (+480) for a strong value.

Nicolau has a pair of victories via submission in his last seven fights and is 5-0 via submission in 20 career professional fights.

On the flip side, Elliott has lost three of his past seven fights in the UFC via submission, including against Royval in May 2020.

Over/Under (O/U)

NO (+155): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? is a solid value at this price point, especially since I like Nicolau to tap out Elliott.

UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (+185) is also worth a small-unit play for a chance to nearly double up.

While I normally do a two-round block, I like NICOLAU TO WIN IN ROUND 2 (+1000) for a small-unit play as a standalone bet on the exact round.

Brown’s bouts are always exciting, win or lose. Each of his last five fights has finished inside the distance, with two submission wins and a KO/TKO victory during the span, and a pair of second-round KO/TKO losses. His last fight to go the distance was against Mickey Gall at UFC 217 in Nov. 2017.

Gooden bounced back from a pair of unanimous-decision losses to Alan Jouban and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, posting a first-round KO/TKO of Niklas Stolze in July. Six of his last eight professional bouts have finished inside the distance.

Records: Brown (13-4-0) | Gooden (18-6-0)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Brown (-270) will cost you over two and a half times your potential wager, so unless you tie him into a parlay of three or more fighters there really isn’t a lot of value here.

Get more specific instead. I think BROWN BY TKO/KO (+245) is a tremendous value play instead. Yes, he won two of his last three fights via submission, but Gooden has never been tapped in 24 professional career bouts.

Over/Under (O/U)

NO (-190): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCE? is a little on the pricey side, but it’s not too terrible if you couple it in a parlay with a Brown victory.

OVER 1.5 ROUNDS (-205) is also a little expensive, but worth a play. While I think Brown knocks out Gooden, it won’t be a quick finish.

Dern takes the walk to the octagon looking for her fifth consecutive victory.
This will be her first main event bout. Three of her last four fights have finished inside the distance, with all three ending via submission victories. That includes a first-round tap of Nina Nunes last time out in April.

Dern, who is 6-1 at the UFC level, has been a boa constrictor when she can get her counterpart to the mat. She has a 0.51-to-0.28 takedown average advantage over Rodriguez, with a 2.30-to-0.14 submission average lead.

Rodriguez’s best bet is to keep the fight upright. She has a 4.89-to-3.64 significant strikes landed per minute advantage. Rodriguez stopped the “Karate Hottie”, Michelle Waterson, via unanimous decision last time out in May. She has two straight wins, including a second-round KO/TKO against Amanda Ribas at UFC 257.

Since arriving at the UFC level, she is 4-1-2 with six fights going the distance.

UFC Fight Night 194 Dern vs. Rodriguez: Odds and lines

Records: Dern (11-1-0) | Rodriguez (14-1-2)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Dern (-205) will cost you over two times your potential return on the 2-way line, and that’s just too expensive against a fighter with just one loss in 17 career professional bouts.

However, I don’t think Rodriguez has the defense if this fight goes to the canvas. DERN BY SUBMISSION (+102) at near even money is the best bet on the board here.

Over/Under (O/U)

No (-290): Will the fight go the distance? is a little too expensive for my liking. I do like OVER 2.5 ROUNDS (-110) for a better value, as I think Dern can tap Rodriguez but expect her to hang around and make it interesting.

In addition, take a two-round block with DERN TO WIN IN ROUND 3 (+800) and DERN TO WIN IN ROUND 4 (+1200). Yes, you’ll lose one of those ends, even if Dern wins in Rounds 3-4, but you’ll still be well ahead.
