UFC 280: Petr Yan vs. Sean O’Malley odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC 280 odds and lines between Petr Yan and Sean O’Malley, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a bantamweight title fight on the main card, Petr Yan and Sean O’Malley meet Saturday at UFC 280 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the UFC 280: Yan vs. O’Malley odds, and make our expert picks and predictions.

The fight can be viewed on ESPNews/ESPN+ with the prelims beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET and the main card at 2 p.m. ET on Pay-Per-View.

Yan steps into the octagon looking to rebound after a split-decision loss to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 273, losing his strap in the process. A win here would go a long way in positioning Yan for another shot at the title sooner rather than later.

Yan stands 4 inches shorter than O’Malley, who has a 5-inch reach advantage over the Russian fighter, too. However, Yan is the much better fighter on the ground, and that’s where he’ll try and get this fight as quickly as possible, avoiding going toe-to-toe with the switch-stance striker.

O’Malley’s fight against Pedro Munhoz last time out at UFC 276 was declared a no contest after an accidental eye poke knocked Munhoz out of the fight.

Each of O’Malley’s past 6 fights prior to UFC 276 resulted in a KO/TKO, with 5 victories. He hasn’t ended up going the distance since a unanimous-decision win against Andre Soukhamthath at UFC 222 in March 2018, his first official fight at the UFC level.

UFC 280: Yan vs. O’Malley picks and predictions

Records: Yan (16-3-0) | O’Malley (15-1-0)

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

Yan (-300) is too expensive laying 3 times your potential return if you like him on the 2-way line. Get creative instead.

While Yan is tremendous in the takedown game, he has just 1 submission win and result in his pro career, while O’Malley also has been involved in just 1 submission.

Yan will score points with the judges, but if he is to get the win, it will be with a finish. Play the “Congrats Hasbulla” special bet at Tipico with YAN TO WIN BY TKO/KO (+410) for a solid value as that’s the best way to beat O’Malley.

Over/Under (O/U)

NO (+140): FIGHT TO GO THE DISTANCE is solid at plus-money as O’Malley just doesn’t get the judges involved. This fight is going to end in a knockout.

UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (+150) is also worth a roll of the dice for a slightly better value, too.

UFC 280: Charles Oliveira vs. Islam Makhachev odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC 280 odds and lines between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a lightweight title fight in the main event, Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev meet Saturday at UFC 280 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the UFC 280: Oliveira vs. Makhachev odds, and make our expert picks and predictions.

The fight can be viewed on ESPNews/ESPN+ with the prelims beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET and the main card at 2 p.m. ET on Pay-Per-View.

Oliveira takes the walk to the octagon as the current strap holder, while also bringing a 3.5-inch reach advantage to the fight. In addition, he has a 3.53-to-2.27 significant strikes landed per minute.

Oliveira – a.k.a. “do Bronx”– picked up the title at UFC 262 with a Round 2 win over Michael Chandler in May 2021. He has defended his title twice, submitting both Dustin Poirier at UFC 269 and Justin Gaethje at UFC 274. Just 1 of his past 18 fights at the UFC level have gone the distance.

Makhachev has positioned himself nicely for this title shot. He dropped Bobby Green via KO/TKO in Round 1 last time out in late February, while submitting Dan Hooker at UFC 267, also in Round 1. He enters on a 10-fight win streak.

UFC 280: Oliveira vs. Makhachev picks and predictions

Records: Oliveira (33-8-0) | Makhachev (22-1-0)

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

BACK OLIVEIRA (+155).

He heads into this bout with a chip on his shoulder, feeling a little disrespect as an underdog despite being the current champ. It isn’t like he’s been struggling or showing any signs of slowing down.

Yes, Makhachev has been impressive, too, but the champ has the much better resume. Plus, there is way more value betting Oliveira, and this is a lot closer to a coin-flip fight than the books are indicating.

Over/Under (O/U)

No (-410): Fight to go the distance is just too expensive to play. A better bet, albeit a little on the expensive side, is to play UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (-165).

Neither of these fighters like to go very deep into bouts, and Makhachev hasn’t even seen Round 2 in his past 2 fights, while Oliveira hasn’t gone Over 2.5 rounds in 3 straight since his unanimous-decision win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 256.

UFC 280: Aljamain Sterling vs. TJ Dillashaw odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC 280 odds and lines between Aljamain Sterling and TJ Dillashaw, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a bantamweight title fight in the main event, Aljamain Sterling and TJ Dillashaw meet Saturday at UFC 280 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the UFC 280: Sterling vs. Dillashaw odds, and make our expert picks and predictions.

The fight can be viewed on ESPNews/ESPN+ with the prelims beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET and the main card at 2 p.m. ET on Pay-Per-View.

The defending champ Sterling takes the walk with the belt, a 1-inch height advantage and a 4-inch reach advantage. The “Funk Master” is coming off a split-decision win over Petr Yan last time out at UFC 273 in early April.

While the veteran Dillashaw holds a slight 5.26-to-4.56 significant-strikes-landed-per-minute advantage, Sterling is much more accurate at 58.72% to just 47.72% for the challenger. The ground game for both fighters is fairly equal with perhaps an ever-so-slight advantage in favor of Sterling.

Dillashaw held the bantamweight title after knocking out Cody Garbrandt not once, but twice. However, in January 2019, he was dropped down to flyweight and was knocked out in 32 seconds by Henry Cejudo, losing a chance to be a two-division champ. To make matters worse, he took the banned substance EPO to keep his energy level up while cutting weight.

Dillashaw was suspended two years for doping, but he returned to the octagon in a fight night main event July 24, 2021, and stopped Cory Sandhagen by split decision to position himself for another title shot.

UFC 280: Sterling vs. Dillashaw odds

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 3:07 a.m. ET.

  • Fight result (2-way line): Sterling -190 (bet $190 to win $100) | Dillashaw +145 (bet $100 to win $145)
  • Over/Under: 4.5 rounds (Over -220 | Under +155)
  • Will the fight go the distance? Yes (-180) | No (+130)

UFC 280: Sterling vs. Dillashaw picks and predictions

Records: Sterling (21-3-0) | Dillashaw (18-4-0)

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

STERLING (-190). The cutoff price I feel comfortable betting a fighter on a 2-way line is -180. However, I’m willing to play Sterling at -190 in this one. He is the champ, and he hasn’t had a super long layoff in recent years.

Dillashaw did enough to win over two of the three judges in the Garbrandt fight, but that’s his only appearance in the octagon in over three and a half years.

Sterling is the more battle-tested fighter. He likely will have the better cardio, and he’ll be able to weather the storm and make a lot of fans happy by dumping Dillashaw.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET YES (-180): FIGHT TO GO THE DISTANCE.

As mentioned, -180 is the most juice I feel comfortable betting straight up.

Sterling has ended up going the distance in 3 of his past 5 fights, and he might have ended up going all the way at UFC 259 in the DQ fight against Yan.

Dillashaw went the distance in his return from suspension, and he has ended up with just 3 finishes in the past 7 fights overall.

Taking STERLING BY POINTS (+133) isn’t a bad idea, either.
