UFC 270 faceoff: Deiveson Figueiredo gives Brandon Moreno the middle finger

Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo had what could potentially be their final staredown ever at UFC 270 ceremonial weigh-ins.

ANAHEIM, Calif. – [autotag]Brandon Moreno[/autotag] and [autotag]Deiveson Figueiredo[/autotag] had what could potentially be their final staredown ever at UFC 270 ceremonial weigh-ins – and things got heated.

UFC president Dana White needed to intervene between the two flyweights before the Brazilian fighter flipped his Mexican opponent the middle finger.

Moreno (19-5-2 MMA, 7-2-2 UFC) and Figueiredo (20-2-1 MMA, 9-2-1 UFC) meet in Saturday’s co-main event at Honda Center, with the flyweight championship on the line. It’s the third consecutive meeting between the pair, with the first matchup at UFC 256 in December 2020 ending in a draw, while the rematch at UFC 263 saw Moreno take the belt with a submission finish.

The stage is now set for a trilogy fight. Both men successfully made weight on Friday morning, and at ceremonial weigh-ins on Friday afternoon, engaged in yet another faceoff before sharing the octagon once more.

Kamaru Usman confirms he’ll corner ‘stone cold killer’ Francis Ngannou at UFC 270

Kamaru Usman will once again corner fellow champ Francis Ngannou for the UFC 270 main event.

ANAHEIM, Calif. – [autotag]Kamaru Usman[/autotag] will once again be in the corner [autotag]Francis Ngannou[/autotag] when he enters the octagon for the UFC 270 main event.

Usman, the reigning UFC welterweight champion, is a good friend of Ngannou (16-3 MMA, 11-2 UFC). He was in the corner of “The Predator” for his title-winning knockout of Stipe Miocic in March, and he’ll once again be in the same spot for Saturday’s heavyweight title unification bout with Ciryl Gane (10-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC).

Although Usman has only been an infrequent observer of Ngannou going into UFC 270, he said he’s seen enough to know where his fellow champion is mentally and physically.

“I’m seeing a stone-cold killer,” Usman told MMA Junkie on Friday. “This is how Francis is every fight. It’s something very, very rare when you have a guy this big. Whenever Francis Ngannou walks into a room, everyone knows Francis Ngannou is in the room. I see him he’s calm and he’s ready to step in there.”

[lawrence-related id=2020288,2016549,2013561]

Usman (20-1 MMA, 15-0 UFC), who is currently the No. 2 fighter in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie pound-for-pound rankings, said his primary goal on fight night is to bring “that good energy” to Ngannou.

The fight between Ngannou and Gane serves as the main event of UFC 270, which takes place at Honda Center and airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+.

Usman stopped short making an official prediction for the fight, and said it will ultimately come down to who executes best on fight night.

“I think both guys are very prepared,” Usman said. “I think both guys are ready to be the champion, so the best man will prevail”

Ilia Topuria vs. Charles Jourdain scrapped from UFC 270

UFC 270 has taken another big hit.

UFC 270 has taken another big hit.

The featured prelim between featherweights [autotag]Ilia Topuria[/autotag] (11-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) and [autotag]Charles Jourdain[/autotag] (12-4-1 MMA, 3-3-1 UFC) has been scratched from UFC 270 on Saturday due to weight cutting issues on Topuria’s side.

A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the news to MMA Junkie after an initial report by Eurosport España. The person requested anonymity because the UFC has yet to make an official announcement.

Topuria, who was originally scheduled to face Movsar Evloev, drew Jourdain instead when a positive COVID-19 test forced Evloev out of the bout. Now it’s Topuria who has withdrawn after he was not medically cleared to compete. The unbeaten 25-year-old was looking to continue his momentum after scoring back-to-back first-round knockouts of Damon Jackson and Ryan Hall.

Jourdain was set for a quick turnaround after defeating Andre Ewell by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 199 in December. Following his win, the 26-year-old Canadian signed a new four-fight deal with the UFC.

Topuria vs. Jourdain was set to be the featured fight on the ESPN preliminary card. It is not yet known which of the three fights from the early prelims on ESPN+ will move up.

The UFC 270 lineup now includes:
