Grayson Allen, two other former Duke basketball stars attended Arizona game

A trio of former Duke basketball stars, including Grayson Allen, attended Friday night’s game against the Arizona Wildcats together.

[autotag]Grayson Allen[/autotag], Tyus Jones, and Mason Plumlee attended Duke’s victory over the Arizona Wildcats together on Friday night.

The Blue Devils shared a photo of the trio, now teammates on the Phoenix Suns in the NBA.

All three of them won a national title during their time in Durham. Plumlee, the oldest of the three, played 14.1 minutes per game as a freshman on the 2010 championship team. He became a more productive scorer with each successive season, peaking with a 2012-13 senior campaign that included 17.1 points and 10.0 rebounds per night.

Jones and Allen played together on the 2014-15 team, the last Duke roster to hang a banner. Jones only spent one season with the team, averaging 11.8 points and 5.6 assists before getting drafted with the 24th overall pick. Allen, on the other hand, stayed for four seasons. His 1,996 career points are the most by any Blue Devil since 2010.

With all three champions together once again, the Phoenix Suns sport a 9-7 record so far this NBA season. Jones leads the team with 6.9 assists per night, and he and Allen both produce at least 10 points per game.

Former Duke basketball star Tyus Jones reunites with Grayson Allen on Phoenix Suns

Tyus Jones and Grayson Allen, two members of the 2015 national title squad, will again be teammates after Jones signed with the Phoenix Suns on Saturday.

Duke basketball fans yearning for some national championship nostalgia got some good news on Saturday.

Tyus Jones, who won a national championship with the Blue Devils back in 2015, signed with the Phoenix Suns on Saturday. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the deal, a one-year contract worth $3.3 million dollars.

The deal reunites Jones with Grayson Allen, a freshman on that 2014-15 title team.

During the 2015 national championship game against Wisconsin, Jones and Allen finished as the Blue Devils’ two leading scorers. They teamed for 39 of Duke’s 68 points and shot a combined 12/21 (57.1%) from the floor.

The rest of the team made 12 of their 30 shots. Given that the Blue Devils won that game by five points, it’s reasonable to say Jones and Allen single-handedly brought the fifth banner to Cameron Indoor Stadium.

“The chance to play for the Phoenix Suns made the most sense on a lot of levels to me and my family,” Jones said in a statement about the contract. “Coach (Mike Budenholzer) showed me how I can significantly impact a team that has a real opportunity to challenge for an NBA title as their starting point guard.”

Jones, who previously played for the Washington Wizards, averaged 12.0 points and 7.3 assists (both career-highs) last season. Allen, for his part, also set a new personal best with 13.5 points per game after shooting an NBA-best 46.1% from 3-point range.

Tyus Jones floated as dream free agency target for Spurs

Could the San Antonio Spurs target Tyus Jones in free agency?

The San Antonio Spurs need playmaking help. Tre Jones is solid, but if the Spurs want to take the next step, they should be looking to add at the point guard position. Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report listed Washington Wizards guard Tyus Jones as the “dream” free agency target for the Spurs.

“The San Antonio Spurs need a franchise point guard and figure to use either the No. 4 or No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft on one,” Swartz wrote. “However, it’s unclear whether that player will be able to run the team right away, so San Antonio should have a bridge plan in place. Signing Tyus Jones to play with his brother, Tre, would make a lot of sense. The older Jones was a solid starter with the Washington Wizards this past season and would be an upgrade over his brother in the Spurs’ starting lineup.

“San Antonio ranked 24th in turnover rate (14.8 percent) this past season. As the Wizards’ primary ball-handler, Jones had a turnover rate of only 8.8 percent, which was far below the Spurs’ mark as a team. With up to $21.3 million in cap space, the Spurs could offer Jones more than the $12.9 million non-taxpayer MLE. That might give them a leg up on most other suitors.”

Bringing in Tre’s brother would be a great addition for the Spurs.

Tyus Jones listed as potential impact free agency fit for Spurs

Could the San Antonio Spurs look to sign Tyus Jones in free agency?

As the San Antonio Spurs look to improve their roster around Victor Wembanyama this summer, one of their top priorities should be to add playmaking. Dan Favale of Bleacher Report listed Washington Wizards guard Tyus Jones as a potential free-agency fit for the Spurs this summer.

“Bringing in a game manager like Tyus Jones, the brother of Tre Jones, is a modest move that would go a long way,” Favale wrote. “Turnovers are a foreign concept to him, he knows how to bob and weave in and out of the lane, and he’s a good enough shooter to stretch defenses away from the ball. (He hit over 42 percent of his spot-up triples last year.)

“San Antonio can chisel out close to $20 million in cap space, so giving chase to Tyus isn’t an issue and neither is prying him from the Wizards. They’re in the infancy of a rebuild, and Tyus is an unrestricted free agent. His leaving for what profiles as a more competitive situation is hardly farfetched unless Washington is throwing gobs of money his way. None of this is to say Tyus plus two inbound lottery picks and some moves on the margins will transform the Spurs into an immediate playoff threat. But they did just decidedly win the minutes Wemby and Tre logged together. Upgrading and expanding that dynamic by signing Tyus renders them a more immediate menace in the Western Conference without crashing into their long-term plans or assets.”

Jones’ playmaking would seriously help the Spurs’ offense.

Could Tyus Jones be a potential Spurs target this offseason?

Could Washington Wizards point guard Tyus Jones be a San Antonio Spurs target this summer?

The San Antonio Spurs need help at the point guard position. Tre Jones is solid, and Blake Wesley looked alright to end the year, but they still need more playmaking next to Victor Wembanyama. Jacob Douglas of Pounding the Rock floated Washington Wizards guard, and brother of Tre, Tyus Jones as a potential target.

“Just having a few high-IQ players who can supplement the Spurs young core would help San Antonio tremendously,” Douglas wrote. “aThat doesn’t mean they should blindly pay for veterans just because they have experience. However, some help at key positions could smooth out the turnovers and help in other areas of need.

“If the Spurs don’t trade for a star playmaker, or draft a guard in the first round, it would be great to see them target the other Jones brother, Tyus, who leads the league in assist to turnover ratio.”

Adding a guy like Tyus Jones to help run the offense would be great for the Spurs.

Report: Spurs showing interest in potential trade for Tyus Jones

The San Antonio Spurs have reportedly expressed an interest in a potential Tyus Jones trade.

Early in the season, the San Antonio Spurs had some trouble working out what their point guard position would look like. Jeremy Sochan began the season as the team’s starting point guard, but that plan quickly failed. Sochan expressed discomfort with the role, and the Spurs moved on to a different plan.

They moved onto a collective of Sochan, Devin Vassell, Malaki Branham, and Tre Jones as the primary ball-handlers, and since then, Jones has taken over as the starting point guard. However, while the Spurs may not look to improve greatly by the deadline, they are reportedly looking into potential point guard upgrades.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, one of the guys they are keeping an eye on is Washington Wizards point guard Tyus Jones, Tre’s brother.

“Tyus Jones has drawn trade interest from the Magic, Spurs, Nets, Lakers and Timberwolves, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto reported. “The Wizards value Jones as a potential piece going forward and are open to re-signing him in free agency this summer. As recently reported by HoopsHype, Washington would covet a future first-round pick to consider parting with Jones.”

Jones was traded from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Wizards this past summer, and he’s been widely regarded as one of the best backup point guards in the NBA. However, the Spurs could benefit from the added help at the position, whether he starts or not.

So far this season, Jones is averaging 12.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 6.3 assists while shooting 49.1% from the field and 39.2% from behind the three-point line.

B/R four-team mock trade lands Lakers Dejounte Murray and Tyus Jones

This four-team mock trade could greatly upgrade the Lakers’ backcourt in more ways than one.

The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Atlanta Hawks, 138-122, on Tuesday, giving them their second defeat in as many nights. They are 24-25 and time is running out for them to make any kind of substantial run ahead of the playoffs.

At this rate, the Lakers may not even make the playoffs or even the play-in tournament. For some reason, they keep playing down to the level of their competition when they face a team that is seemingly inferior on paper.

Tuesday’s game also gave the Lakers an up-close-and-personal look at former All-Star guard Dejounte Murray, their biggest trade target. Murray shot 11-of-19, giving him more made baskets than anyone else in the game, and he scored 24 points to go along with nine assists.

The Lakers and Hawks have talked about a potential Murray deal, and reportedly, a third team will need to get involved to receive D’Angelo Russell from the Lakers.

Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report proposed a four-team mock trade involving the Hawks, Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards that would net L.A. Murray, as well as another player who could help it right away.

NBA trade deadline 2024: The 10 most interesting players available and what it’ll cost to get them

Dejounte Murray, Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan are some names to watch.

The 2024 NBA trade deadline is approaching in just a few weeks and we may see a few former All-Stars involved in transactions.

As noted by my colleague Mike Sykes, this deadline may be quieter than normal because some of the bigger names (such as Pascal Siakam, O.G. Anunoby, Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, Bruce Brown and Terry Rozier) have already gotten traded.

But that doesn’t mean we will see no star power or players of value get moved. With that in mind, we took a look at some of the most intriguing trade candidates in the NBA and shared their expected value based on the most trusted reporting around the league.

Here is how it is shaking out so far:

Lakers reportedly have interest in trading for Tyus Jones, Collin Sexton

The Lakers want to land a speedy point guard, and they have other targets besides the Hawks’ Dejounte Murray.

The Los Angeles Lakers are 20-21 at the exact midway point of their schedule, and just about everyone believes they need some outside help to turn things around.

They have most of the core that took them to last season’s Western Conference finals, but they lack 3-point shooting and can also use some speed and burst at the point guard position.

Right now, their biggest trade targets seem to be the Atlanta Hawks’ Dejounte Murray, who would give them a speedy scoring guard who can also facilitate and defend. But the price for him could be steep.

On Wednesday, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported L.A. is also looking at possibly targeting the Washington Wizards’ Tyus Jones and Collin Sexton of the Utah Jazz.

Jones may not be the attractive trade piece Lakers fans are hoping for, but he is a very solid lead guard who is averaging 12.8 points and 5.6 assists a game this season. He’s also shooting a very robust 52% from the field and 42% from 3-point range.

Sexton, meanwhile, is more of a scoring threat, although he may not be a true facilitator. He’s putting up 16.9 points and 3.9 assists in just 23.5 minutes a game while shooting 48.9% overall and 37.1% from downtown this season.

4 trade targets Thunder should look into ahead of NBA trade deadline

4 trade targets the Thunder should look into ahead of trade deadline.

As the Feb. 8 NBA trade deadline creeps closer, expect the Oklahoma City Thunder to be potential buyers for the first time in years.

After spending the last three seasons rebuilding, OKC has busted open a contention window this year with a 23-11 record led by the young trio of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams.

Even though the Thunder will make the playoffs for the first time since 2020, don’t expect any seismic in-season trades by according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The NBA insider detailed that OKC will likely ride it out with this group but could look to make improvements on the margin.

To prepare for the trade deadline, let’s look at four Thunder targets who’d make sense as short-term commitments that could improve their depth without giving up serious trade capital.
