Report: Bears QB Justin Fields suffered dislocated thumb on his throwing hand

Fields will have an MRI Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

The right-hand injury to Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is becoming a bit clearer. According to FOX NFL insider Jay Glazer, Fields suffered a dislocated thumb in the 19-13 loss against the Minnesota Vikings. Fields was brought down hard in the third quarter and exited the game. According to Glazer, he popped his thumb back into place but was unable to grip the football and went to the locker room. He was ruled out shortly after.

Head coach Matt Eberflus confirmed that in his press conference, saying Fields tried to re-enter the game. Prior to the injury, Fields completed 6-of-10 passes for 58 yards and an interception. It was a far cry from his previous two outings, where he threw eight touchdowns and over 600 yards.

Fields will have an MRI on Monday to determine any additional damage. If he’s unable to play next week against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Bears will likely stick with undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent, who took over for Fields on Sunday. Bagent went 10-of-14 for 83 yards and an interception. He also ran for a touchdown and lost a fumble.

Bears vs. Vikings: Everything we know about Chicago’s Week 6 loss

The Chicago Bears fell 19-13 to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Here’s everything we know about their Week 6 loss.

On Sunday, the Chicago Bears fell 19-13 to the Minnesota Vikings, erasing any good vibes after their first victory of the season. For Chicago, their biggest loss of the game was the injury to their starting quarterback, Justin Fields, who suffered a right wrist/hand injury in the second half. Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent took over in his place, nearly leading a comeback before throwing a costly interception.

The Bears are now 1-5, which gives them around a 2% chance of making the playoffs. That isn’t promising for a team that has struggled on both sides of the ball and has yet to win a divisional game under head coach Matt Eberflus.

Here’s everything we know about Chicago’s Week 6 loss.

Bears fans are back on tank watch after 19-13 loss vs. Vikings

Another Bears loss has fans looking toward the 2024 NFL Draft.

The winning vibes were fun while they lasted. The Chicago Bears were unable to create a winning streak, falling 19-13 in a sloppy game against the Minnesota Vikings. Chicago fell to 1-5, while Minnesota improved to 2-4 on the year.

The Bears’ potent offense ran dry after two games of putting up at least 28 points. They couldn’t muster a touchdown until the fourth quarter and had no answers for the Vikings ferocious pass rush. That pass rush eventually cost the Bears their starting quarterback, as Justin Fields was lost for the game with a hand injury. Tyson Bagent took over in relief and provided a few big plays, but had two costly turnovers that didn’t allow the Bears to complete a comeback.

Defensively, Chicago improved quite a bit, holding Minnesota to just 12 offensive points. The Bears defenders were flying and did enough to keep them in the game, but it didn’t matter in the end. The Bears are now back at the bottom of the standings, and the fans are officially looking toward the future with the draft.

At the moment, Chicago holds picks No. 1 and 2 in the 2024 NFL Draft. Two elite prospects would be available for the Bears to jumpstart their rebuild, and fans are all for it after this loss.

Vikings force three turnovers, survive Bears 19-13

It took forcing three turnovers, but the Vikings survived the Bears for their second win of the season

In a game reminiscent of an ugly Big 10 matchup, the Minnesota Vikings won their first division game of the season by a score of 19-13 over the Chicago Bears.

The game started out inconspicuous with four field goals in the first five drives. That is when the chaos began.

Kirk Cousins threw an interception after his arm got hit to Tremaine Edmonds and Justin Fields returned the favor with Jordan Hicks doing his best Willie Mays impression to get one of his own.

The Vikings had all three time outs and it aided them driving down the field and Cousins found Jordan Addison in the back of the end zone with just seconds left.

The second half was a different story.  The Vikings got the ball to start the half, but went three and out. They exchanged possessions, but a hand injury to Fields knocked him out and the Vikings took advantage right away.

Josh Metellus stripped rookie UDFA quarterback Tyson Bagent and Hicks had his second takeaway of the game with a scoop-and-score. That gave the Vikings a 19-6 lead.

Bagent eventually led a touchdown drive to bring it within six after he sneaked it in from a yard out. He got the ball back after Cousins was charged with one of the worst intentional grounding penalties I’ve ever seen.

The key play was right before the two-minute warning. Bagent was trying to make a play but it turned into a rookie mistake by throwing up a duck that was intercepted by Byron Murphy Jr. and the Vikings ran the clock out.

Up next for the Vikings is the undefeated San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.

WATCH: Minnesota scoop-and-score stretches the lead for the Vikings

Minnesota Vikings LB Jordan Hicks scoops up a fumble and scores a touchdown to extend the lead to 13

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields left after the last drive with what appears to be a hand injury. In comes rookie undrafted free agent quarterback Tyson Bagent. Brian Flores’ defense is the last thing you want a young quarterback to see and Minnesota showed exactly why.

Flores dialed up a safety blitz from Josh Metellus, who had already been having a fairly good game up to this point. As Bagent navigated the pocket, trying to find a comfortable spot to throw the football, Metellus stripped the football from behind. Metellus tried to also pick it up, but that was reserved for nine-year veteran Jordan Hicks who took the ball 42 yards for the score.

This scoop-and-score stretches the Minnesota lead to 19-6, in a game where points seem to be at a premium.

The Minnesota defense continues to try to close the turnover margin with their second defensive touchdown of the year in a pivotal part of the game.

Bears’ Justin Fields leaves game with hand injury

Fields left Sunday’s game with a hand injury

The Chicago Bears have taken a massive blow, as quarterback Justin Fields has left the game with a hand injury. Fields was injured in the middle of the third quarter as he scrambled and ultimately took a sack at the hands of Minnesota Vikings’ Danielle Hunter.

As Fields was going down, he attempted to flip the ball out of bounds, avoiding the sack, but his knee was down prior to getting the ball out. Fields landed awkwardly on his wrist and was in visible discomfort coming off the field.

Fields has struggled today, as the Vikings’ defense has been creating consistent pressure all game. The Vikings’ defense has done a great job containing Fields, who is coming off two of the best passing performances of his career in the Bears’ previous two games.

With Fields out, the Bears will have to rely on rookie quarterback Tyson Bagent. Bagent came to the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Shepherd University and will now be tasked with facing a sweltering Vikings pass rush and trying to get the Bears back into the game.

The official word is that Justin Fields is questionable to return.

Update: Fields was ruled out shortly after publishing.

Bears QB Justin Fields exits game with hand injury vs. Vikings

Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent is now under center for the Bears after Justin Fields suffered a right hand injury.

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields left the field with a hand injury after taking a hit vs. the Minnesota Vikings.

In the third quarter, Fields dropped back to pass and scrambled to try and make a play. He a took a hit after getting rid of the ball on third down and appeared to suffer an injury to his throwing hand.

Fields went to the blue injury tent for a moment before exiting the field to go to the locker room. Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent will take over under center going forward unless Fields can come back. If Fields’ day is done, he went 6-of-10 for 58 yards and an interception, while also carrying the ball eight times for 46 yards.

UPDATE: Fields has officially been ruled out.

Bears rookie Tyson Bagent will be QB2 ‘moving forward’

Bears rookie Tyson Bagent gets a well-deserved promotion to QB2.

The Chicago Bears have a new QB2, and it’s probably the most excited the fanbase has felt since the season kicked off.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bears are promoting rookie Tyson Bagent to their backup quarterback “moving forward.” He’ll be active for the first time against the Denver Broncos.

Bagent replaces veteran Nathan Peterman, who served as Justin Fields’ backup quarterback for the first three games.

Rapoport explained why the team is making the move:

The decision has nothing to do with Fields’ standing, but it does have to do with a young, promising QB deserving a promotion from No. 3 to No. 2.

Bagent was a training camp and preseason standout for Chicago, where he worked his way from fourth on the depth chart to second behind Fields by preseason’s end.

While Bagent was among the two quarterbacks to make the active roster, the Bears brought back Peterman to serve as a veteran presence. Now, it’s clear they believe Bagent can go into a game and play, if needed.

With Fields’ future in question, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Bagent at some point this season. If things continue to spiral for this team, they owe it to themselves, this fanbase and Bagent to see what they have in the undrafted rookie out of Shepherd.

Bears re-sign QB Nathan Peterman

The veteran quarterback returns to the Bears less than 24 hours after he was released.

Quarterback Nathan Peterman barely made it out of Lake Forest before the Chicago Bears brought him back. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Peterman was re-signed to the roster on Thursday morning. This comes less than 24 hours after he was released on one of the wildest days at Halas Hall in recent memory.

It’s unclear as of now if Peterman will continue to serve as the primary backup behind Justin Fields. For a brief moment, it appeared undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent would be elevated to the position, but now that’s up in the air.

The Bears are preparing to take on the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday at 3:25 p.m. CT.
