Penn State’s 2023 football commitment tracker

The Penn State football Class of 2023 commitment tracker has been updated with the latest recruiting development

The Class of 2022 was great for Penn State, but it’s already time to turn the page toward the Class of 2023. And James Franklin and the Nittany Lions already had a few commitments on the board for the Class of 2023 as the signed letters of intent were coming in for the Class of 2022.

We’ll be keeping track of every commitment that goes on the board for Penn State in the Class of 2023. But knowing that odds are pretty good at least one player will have a change of heart somewhere along the recruiting process, we’ll keep tabs on what they are doing up until signing day.

This tracker will be updated accordingly when needed. It was last updated on February 1, 2023.

Where Penn State’s Class of 2023 ranks after latest commitment

Where does Penn State rank in the recruiting rankings after its latest commitment?

Penn State received some terrific news on Tuesday afternoon when four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Tomarrion Parker[/autotag] announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions in the Class of 2023. Parker joined an impressive recruiting class to make their way to Happy Valley in the next year as head coach James Franklin hopes more good news will be on the way in the coming weeks.

Penn State saw a bump up in the national recruiting rankings last week after adding [autotag]Tyriq Blanding[/autotag] to the Class of 2023, but that has left Penn State with little room to improve in the national recruiting rankings. Such was the case with the addition of Parker.

Penn State remains the No. 3 team in the Class of 2023 according to the composite team rankings compiled by 247Sports on Tuesday night. With 14 commits, led by five-star offensive lineman [autotag]Alex Birchmeier[/autotag], the Nittany Lions continue to have one of the nation’s top recruiting classes, but another Big Ten rival has maneuvered themselves just ahead of Penn State in the latest recruiting rankings.

Ohio State has jumped up to No. 2 in the nation after adding a commitment from a paid of five-star wide receivers in the past few days, Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss. Northwestern enjoyed a brief stay at the top of the Big Ten recruiting rankings, but Penn State and Ohio State have started to pace themselves far ahead of the Wildcats and the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions are now on pace to secure the top two recruiting classes in the Big Ten once again in 2023.

Notre Dame remains the No. 1 team in the 247Sports team rankings, and the Fighting Irish still have a padded lead over the Buckeyes in the 247Sports calculations.

What about the On3 team rankings?

Each recruiting service has a different way of evaluating talent, which leads to differences in the recruiting rankings. The ranking of Penn State is slightly less impressive in the team rankings updated by On3.

Penn State’s Class of 2023 is ranked No. 7 in the On3 team rankings, four spots lower than the 247Sports rankings. Ohio State is No. 1 overall according to On3, with Notre Dame coming in at No. 2.

The biggest difference in the two rankings is highlighted by Alabama. The Crimson Tide are ranked No. 4 in the On3 rankings but just No. 38 according to 247Sports. Alabama’s overall ranking may be impacted by the average NIL value calculated by On3 which is currently $1183,000. Penn State is the only program in the On3 top 10 with an average NIL under $67,000 ($48,000).

Penn State still has the apparent inside track on a few more recruits that will be deciding their college choices later this summer. We’ll see where things fall in the recruiting rankings as a result moving forward.

Penn State Class of 2023 beefs up with Tomarrion Parker commitment

Penn State just added a massive recruit to its Class of 2023 recruiting haul with Tomarrion Parker.

After making an official visit to Penn State over the weekend, four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Tomarrion Parker[/autotag] had seen enough to make up his mind. On Tuesday, Parker joined Penn State’s Class of 2023 by announcing his commitment to the Nittany Lions.

This is a massive addition to the recruiting class being worked on by head coach James Franklin. In a class that had placed so much emphasis early on on the offensive line, it seems as though the defense is starting to really take form. The addition of Parker is one that helps tip the balance in a big way for the Nittany Lions.

With the commitment of Parker on board, Penn State now has 14 commitments in the Class of 2023. Parker joins [autotag]Jameial Lyons[/autotag] and [autotag]Tyriq Blanding[/autotag] as defensive line additions to the recruiting class. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Parker is the third highest-ranked recruit on the board for Penn State, trialing only offensive linemen [autotag]Alex Birchmeier[/autotag] and [autotag]J’ven Williams[/autotag]. It may be safe to say the bodies on the line of scrimmage are powering forward for Penn State in the Class of 2023 after picking up some prized skill position players in the Class of 2022.

Parker is a 6′-4″ 255-pound defensive linemen who supposedly chose Penn State over offers from Florida and Michigan State among his final schools. According to 247Sports, Parker is the No. 48 recruit overall in the Class of 2023. Perhaps making this recruiting victory even more impressive is Parker chose Penn State over another key offer from Alabama. Parker is from Alabama, so securing a four-star defensive lineman away from the state when the Crimson Tide had an offer extended is pretty impressive.

Penn State’s Class of 2023 is still looking to add a few more key pieces to the recruiting class, and there is still plenty of room for more help on the defensive side of the football.

Penn State moves up in 247Sports Class of 2023 rankings after latest commit

Penn State moved up in the national recruiting rankings after Friday night’s recruiting news.

Penn State got a jumpstart on a mid-June weekend feeling good. Class of 2023 defensive lineman [autotag]Tyriq Blanding[/autotag], one of the top recruits from New York, moved up his original commitment date to announce he has decided to commit to Penn State and cancel his scheduled official visit to Michigan. Not a bad way for [autotag]James Franklin[/autotag] to head into the weekend.

The latest addition to the Class of 2023, which comes the same week the Nittany Lions had a commitment flip his decision to Georgia, resulted in a slight uptick in the national recruiting rankings. And, once again, Penn State sits atop the rest of the Big Ten in the Class of 2023 for the time being.

According to the updated 247Sports composite rankings, which were updated shortly after Blanding’s announcement, Penn State now owns the No. 3 recruiting class in the nation. Only Notre Dame (No. 1) and Texas Tech (No. 2) currently sit ahead of the Nittany Lions in the Class of 2023. Penn State jumped ahead of Cincinnati (No. 4) and Northwestern (No. 5) following the latest update to the composite rankings. Penn State was previously ranked No. 5 earlier in the week after losing [autotag]Joshua Miller[/autotag]’s commitment to Georgia.

There was some other movement in the recruiting rankings within the top 10 just in the past few days. Ohio State moved from No. 6 down to No. 8 while Georgia moved up from No. 9 to No. 7. Clemson is sitting at No. 6 and Arkansas and Michigan State round out the current top 10.

Time will tell just how high Penn State’s recruiting class remains as the recruiting calendar continues to play out. As a reminder, there is a long way to go and there are some recruiting heavyweights who have yet to really hit their stride. For example, Alabama is currently ranked No. 47 in the updated recruiting rankings, below Illinois and Vanderbilt. That won’t stay that way.

But regardless, Penn State continues to look to be in a solid position to follow up a high-quality Class of 2022 with a very respectable Class of 2023.

Penn State football recruiting profile: DL Tyriq Blanding

Penn State added Tyriq Blanding to the Class of 2023. Here’s a quick rundown of Penn State’s latest commit.

Much of the focus on Penn State’s efforts in the Class of 2023 has focused on the offensive side of the football, but the future of the defensive line continues to be a key area the Nittany Lions are concentrating on as well. [autotag]Tyriq Blanding[/autotag] will be a part of those future plans in the trenches after committing to the program in mid-June.

Blanding committed to Penn State one week before he was scheduled to make an official visit to Michigan. Considered one of the top recruits in the state of New York, Blanding looks to follow in the same path that has led to a number of Penn State defensive linemen being drafted by NFL franchises. Penn State’s knack for developing defensive linemen could pay off in a big way with Blanding.

Here is everything you need to know about Blanding in Penn State’s Class of 2023.

Tyriq Blanding’s Recruiting Profile

Penn State lands Tyriq Blanding to Class of 2023 haul

Penn State beats out Michigan for commitment of Tyriq Blanding.

Penn State started the weekend with some good news on the recruiting trail. [autotag]Tyriq Blanding[/autotag], a Class of 2023 defensive lineman from New York, announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions on Friday evening.

Blanding appeared to be narrowing his search down to Penn State and Michigan. Blanding took an official visit to Penn State’s campus last weekend and was originally scheduled to make an official visit to Michigan next weekend. That official visit to Ann Arbor has now been canceled as Blanding has settled on his decision.

Blanding is a three-star recruit from New York who is ranked the No. 1 recruit in the state of New York by the 247Sports composite ranking (247Sports’ own ranking rates him No. 3 overall in the state).

The addition of Blanding to the Penn State Class of 2023 is a nice rebound after having a commit recently flip his commitment from Penn State to Georgia. Offensive lineman [autotag]Joshua Miller[/autotag] flipped his commitment to the reigning national champions just days prior to Blanding’s announcement.

Blanding joins a Class of 2023 lineup that currently consists of four-star defensive end Jameial Lyons as the only other defensive lineman in the recruiting class to date. Penn State has also added to the defense with cornerback [autotag]Lamont Payne[/autotag] and safety Conrad Hussey. Much of the effort in the Class of 2023 has been focused on the offensive side of the football.

Penn State’s Class of 2023 currently has 13 commitments and continues to be highly-ranked in the nation.

Penn State Class of 2023 target set to announce decision

Will Penn State beat out Michigan for this Class of 2023 defensive lineman set to announce this weekend?

Penn State head coach [autotag]James Franklin[/autotag] is hoping to receive some good news on Saturday from one of the targets in the Class of 2023. Defensive lineman [autotag]Tyriq Blanding[/autotag] is set to make his college decision known to the world this Saturday, June 18, 2022. Blanding announced on his Twitter account he will be making his decision known this weekend, and Penn State has been in his top five.

Blanding is a three-star recruit from New York who is ranked the No. 1 recruit in the state of New York by the 247Sports composite ranking (247Sports’ own ranking rates him No. 3 overall in the state). Blanding is also coming off an official visit to Penn State this past weekend, which has some hoping that visit went well enough to sway his decision one week later.

The decision appears as though it may be coming down to the Nittany Lions and Michigan. Blanding is scheduled for an official visit to Michigan later this month, and his pinned tweet on his Twitter account is a thank-you tweet to Michigan and Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh for an invite to the Michigan spring game earlier this year.

But a pair of crystal ball predictions filed to 247Sports in the last 24 hours have pegged Penn State as the favorite for Blanding’s commitment. 247Sports national recruiting director Brian Dohn and Tyler Calvaruso of Lions247 each have predicted Blanding will choose Penn State, each doing so with high confidence.

So we will have to wait and see what Blanding ultimately decides. Blanding picking Penn State would be a nice boost to the Class of 2023, which is already being rated as one of the best in the nation despite recently having a commit flip to Georgia.
