Here is where every player from Penn State’s Class of 2019 sits today, four years later

The 2022 college football season will mark the fourth year since the Class of 2019 was signed by Penn State. One of the top classes in the Big Ten, coming in at No. 2 in the conference according to 247 Sports, Penn State’s recruiting haul for 2019 was certainly full of potential for big things. And entering 2022, some of those players signed by the Nittany Lions are living the dream while others are looking for some clean starts, and others remain in Happy Valley hoping to end their college careers on a high note.

With so much happening in the offseason, we thought it would be a good idea to take a look back at Penn State’s Class of 2019 to see where everyone is currently stands.

Transfer portal update: Penn State’s Tyler Rudolph heading to UMass

Penn State safety Tyler Rudolph has decided where he will play football in 2022.

Transfer portal season is upon us, with a trio of players from Penn State opting to enter their names in the NCAA transfer portal database. Now, one of those players has a new home.

Tyler Rudolph, a former four-star safety, has announced he is transferring to UMass. Rudolph announced his transfer decision with a brief message on his Twitter account on Friday, confirming his commitment to the Minutemen with an attached image.

Rudolph committed to Penn State as a four-star recruit out of Waterbury, Connecticut in the Class of 2019. The redshirt sophomore entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal on November 24 and will now have an opportunity to gain some playing time much closer to home.

Despite Penn State slated to lose some big players in the secondary after the 2021 season, the entire secondary looks to be a pretty solid strength on the defensive side of the football with players like Kalen King and Joey Porter Jr. in the mix.

Rudolph will be immediately eligible to play for UMass in the 2022 season and he will have three seasons of eligibility remaining at his disposal for the Minutemen.

2021 Penn State depth chart projection: Safety

The status of the safety position at Penn State is pretty good. Projecting the depth chart in 2021…

The safety position together with the defensive backs assembled in Happy Valley is giving Penn State great confidence in the stability and performance of its defensive secondary. Like the defensive backs, Penn State received terrific offseason news with Jaquan Brisker announcing his decision to return for one more season in the blue and white, giving the Nittany Lions one of the best at his position, not just on the team but in the entire Big Ten and, arguably, the nation.

Brisker’s return was a significant one for the Nittany Lions. Having the luxury of having a talent with early NFL draft round projections gives Penn State a valuable asset in the defense. And like the defensive backs bringing back Tariq Castro-Fields, this allows Penn State to work the roster a little bit to address some other possible areas of concern with regard to depth and playmakers.

Penn State will be led with senior players at the safety position no matter who gets paired with Brisker, and the future of the position is already looking to be in solid shape.

So, with all of that in mind, here’s a look at how the safety position may pan out for the Nittany Lions this fall.
