Wisconsin lands commitment from 2023 OL James Durand

The Badgers landed their second commit in the 2023 class

Wisconsin football added to their 2023 class on Friday morning when the Badgers received a commitment from offensive lineman James Durand.

Durand heads to Madison from Chandler, Arizona where he has starred at Basha High School. According to 247Sports, the 6-foot-4 offensive lineman is a three-star prospect and the No. 11 overall prospect in the state of Arizona’s 2023 class.

Durand chose the Badgers over the likes of Arizona, Colorado, California, Iowa State, and a number of others. He is Wisconsin’s second commit in the 2023 class, joining linebacker Tyler Jansey.

Wisconsin secures first commitment in the 2023 class

Wisconsin lands a commitment from three-star inside linebacker Tyler Jansey out of Batavia, Illinois.

On Friday, the Wisconsin Badgers secured a verbal commitment from three-star inside linebacker Tyler Jansey out of Batavia, Illinois. This marks the first commitment for Paul Chryst and his staff in the 2023 recruiting class.

The Illinois native committed to Wisconsin over offers from Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Miami (OH), New Mexico State, Eastern Illinois, and Western Michigan.

Jansey’s commitment marks 23 consecutive years that the Badgers have poached a player from the neighboring state of Illinois.

As a junior, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker totaled 88.0 tackles, 16.0 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

Per 247 sports, Jansey is the 47th ranked linebacker in the 2023 class. It’s also worth noting that Bob Bostad acted as the lead recruiter throughout his entire process, and he knows a thing or two about inside linebacker play.

Wisconsin has had a remarkable track record identifying talent at linebacker, and this was a kid they were involved with very early in the process. Don’t concern yourself with the offer list, there is plenty of talent here as a hardnosed tackler that excels as getting down-hill and playing the gaps. Jansey is someone the staff is very excited to add to an accomplished inside linebacker room.

Wisconsin offers class of 2023 linebacker Tyler Jansey

The Wisconsin football program offered 2023 LB Tyler Jansey yesterday, becoming the first Power Five and third overall offer for the LB

Wisconsin is known to enter recruits’ radar early, sometimes before they receive another Power Five offer.

That was the case just last week with Cade Yacamelli. Wisconsin offered the athlete before other big-name programs entered his radar and Yacamelli didn’t take long to commit to Paul Chryst and his program.

It was also the story with talented quarterbacks Graham Mertz and Deacon Hill. Wisconsin offered them early in their high school careers, their recruiting profiles then skyrocketed and it was the Badgers in the end that earned commitments.

Yesterday, it looks like the Badgers tried to do the same thing as they offered class of 2023 linebacker Tyler Jansey.

Jansey is unranked by 247Sports and only holds offers from Eastern Illinois and Western Michigan.

Despite no ranking on 247Sports, though, the Batavia, Illinois native is listed by PrepRedzone.com as Illinois’ No. 3-ranked player in the class of 2023 and No. 1 linebacker.

We’ll see if their early interest pays off as the 2023 recruiting cycle heats up throughout the year.
