Tyler Herro shared his wild (and kind of sad) reaction to being included in Damian Lillard trade rumors

Tyler Herro seems annoyed with all the trade rumors

Tyler Herro, man. This dude seems to be a Heat lifer, much to the regret of his team.

Despite Miami’s seemingly constant efforts to dangle him out there as a trade chip for whatever superstar comes across the board, Herro always somehow just manages to remain exactly where he’s at — in Miami.

To be fair to Miami, the team had a shot at picking up Damian Lillard. It’s hard not to do everything possible to try and get him on the squad — including trading Herro. That’s understandable. Well, at least for us, it is.

But Herro seems to be kind of irritated by it at this point. He posted an Instagram story a few days ago during the Lillard talks featuring a Rod Wave song about having “no friends in this business,” which definitely feels spot on considering the situation.

Now, after the Lillard trade is done, Herro still seems to feel a way about it. ESPN posted a tweet about Herro remaining with the Heat after being in the Lillard trade talks.

Herro quote tweeted ESPN’s post and said “until next summer.” Basically, he knows this is happening again.

It kind of is what it is at this point. The business of the NBA revolves around the league’s star players. That’s how teams win games. Any team would be willing to move Heaven, Earth, Tyler Herro and everyone else just to get their hands on a proven star like Lillard or whoever else. So, inevitably, this will happen again.

It’s just kind of sad considering that Herro has to keep dealing with this over and over again.

Such is life in the NBA, I guess.

Report: Brooklyn Nets ‘considered’ to be a team interested in Tyler Herro

As the Damian Lillard situation evolves, there is a report saying that the Brooklyn Nets are considered one team interested in Tyler Herro.

The Brooklyn Nets are weeks away from training camp and as a result, they have their roster set for the most part as they get ready for the upcoming season. Despite having the roster set, it seems that the Nets could always be looking for potential upgrades to the team.

In a recent article by Yahoo! Sports, Jake Fischer spoke about how the Damian Lillard trade situation is developing now that training camp is so close. In his piece, Fischer mentioned that according to his sources, Brooklyn is considered to be one of the teams that would be interested in acquiring Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro as part of any Lillard trade.

As it stands, reports suggest that the Lillard trade machine is ramping up, meaning that Lillard can be traded any second now. Now, it’s worth wondering if the Nets are actually interested in Herro enough to be the team that hopes Lillard get to one of Brooklyn’s rivals, the Heat.

Here’s what Fischer had to say about this developing situation in his article:

“Keep an eye on Utah playing a potential role in a three- or four-team outcome of these Lillard conversations. If Portland ultimately does business with Miami, the Jazz — as well as the Bulls, Hornets and Nets — are considered a team interested in landing Tyler Herro from the Heat, sources said. And there are plenty of executives who’d rather take Miami’s best package, if the Heat are so willing, that could include (Tyler) Herro and Nikola Jovic to go with (Jaime) Jaquez, Caleb Martin and more.”

Report: Bulls one of four teams interested in Tyler Herro trade

The Chicago Bulls are reportedly interested in bringing in Tyler Herro in a multi-team Damian Lillard trade.

The Chicago Bulls haven’t made any major moves this summer. Outside of adding Jevon Carter and Torrey Craig, the team looks almost the same as last year’s squad. Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic are all back, as are Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu, both of whom the Bulls re-signed this offseason.

And while training camp is almost here, the Bulls may not be completely done making moves. With Damian Lillard trade rumors still floating around, the Bulls could get involved, but not in the way one might think. Rather than going after Lillard, they could look to target a different star.

According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Bulls are one of four teams potentially interested in snagging Tyler Herro in a multi-team deal.

Nets’ Dennis Smith Jr. displays defensive chops against Tyler Herro (video)

While Tyler Herro absolutely lit up the Miami Pro-Am with 44 points, here is video of Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Smith Jr. locking him up.

Brooklyn Nets guard Dennis Smith Jr. has developed a reputation as one of the best defenders at the guard position in the NBA. Even though training camp is still months away, Smith Jr. is still finding ways to hone his craft and bring that defensive intensity to any court he plays on.

Recently, video has surfaced of Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro scoring 44 points in the Miami Pro-Am that was held at the Miami Pro Gym. While there is a video containing some of Herro’s best highlights from that particular game, there is also footage of Herro having trouble scoring against Smith Jr.

It is the offseason so most likely, none of the players are going full-speed so that they can try to lower their risk of injury. However, in the video posted below, it looks like Smith Jr. and Herro are giving it their all and it was a pleasure to watch.

Take a look for yourself:

Mock trade has Brooklyn Nets trading for Tyler Herro and Anfernee Simons

In this mock trade suggested by Quenton Albertie of ClutchPoints, the Brooklyn Nets would be trading for Tyler Herro and Anfernee Simons.

The Brooklyn Nets are looking to make it back to the playoffs next season with the hope of winning a series or two to give the fanbase something to cheer about. One action that could increase their chances of achieving that goal would be to pull off a massive trade this offseason.

It should be noted that Brooklyn was once in the running to trade for Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard, but now that his camp has made it clear that he only wants to play for the Miami Heat, the Nets have to look elsewhere for their big trade of the summer. Unfortunately, there isn’t a bigger name than Lillard that Brooklyn has a good chance of trading for so they may have to trade for more than one player.

Nets Wire has covered that there are some in the media who believe that Brooklyn should turn their focus to getting someone like Heat guard Tyler Herro. Well, this mock trade suggested by Quenton Albertie of ClutchPoints has Brooklyn trading for Herro and then some:

Brooklyn Nets suggested to focus on Tyler Herro instead of Damian Lillard

According to Quenton Albertie of ClutchPoints, the Brooklyn Nets should focus their attention on getting Tyler Herro from the Miami Heat.

When this offseason began, the Brooklyn Nets were hoping that Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard naming them as one of his preferred destinations would have resulted in a trade considering what Brooklyn has to offer a team like Portland. Now that Lillard has no interest in playing for the Nets, there are some suggesting that they should focus on another player.

In a recent article by Quenton Albertie of ClutchPoints, he suggests that Brooklyn should focus on trying to pull off a trade for Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro. This isn’t necessarily saying that the Nets should just negotiate with the Heat for Herro, but find a way to get Herro and possibly more as a return for being the third team that would help Portland and Miami get what they want out of the trade.

As of right now, little seems to be happening between the Trail Blazers and the Heat other than reports of what Miami’s offers to Portland could be. What is known is that Portland is uninterested in Herro so if the deal goes down at any point, Brooklyn could benefit from getting Herro and possibly more by having to be patient and flexible.

Brooklyn Nets may have to wait awhile for possible trade for Tyler Herro

According to Chris Haynes of TNT and Bleacher Report, the Brooklyn Nets may have to wait some time for the chance to trade for Tyler Herro.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

The Brooklyn Nets have been open to pulling off a trade or two this offseason to try to balance out the roster to make a playoff run next season. Since Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard no longer is willing to be traded to the Nets, Brooklyn could turn its sights to Miami Heat scorer Tyler Herro, but a trade for Herro may take longer than anyone would like.

According to recent reporting from Chris Haynes of TNT and Bleacher Report, the Heat are getting “frustrated” with the Trail Blazers as the teams look to get a deal done for Lillard. Haynes said on the “#thisleague UNCUT” podcast that Miami is getting frustrated because Portland will not give them any direction over what kind of return they want in exchange for Lillard.

For the Nets, this development is disappointing given the fact that if they are going to be the third team that helps the Lillard deal get done, Brooklyn would reportedly get Herro for their troubles, it would be preferable for the trade to happen before training camp begins in the fall. At this point, it’s hard to know when the Lillard trade will happen since Portland general manager Joe Cronin said that if the deal takes months to complete, then that’s what will happen.

Tyrese Maxey is laughably better than Tyler Herro, but it’s not what’s causing Dame trade delays

Tyler Herro is good, sure. But frankly, Tyrese Maxey is better.

Welcome to Layup Lines, our basketball newsletter where we’ll prep you for the tip-off of tonight’s action, from what to watch to bets to make. Subscribe here to get it delivered to your inbox every afternoon.

There is no reason to pit Tyler Herro and Tyrese Maxey against one another right now, or frankly, ever in the future.

Both players, who attended the same college at Kentucky, are two of the more exciting young guards in the league. Both have made sacrifices for their team to step up and play in the second unit to give their team a better chance to succeed in the playoffs. The two of them have no business in a rivalry.

Except, earlier this, Dan Le Batard said that he believed Herro is better than Maxey. The sportscaster said he believes Herro is the best player Portland is able to get in a trade for Lillard.

He added, however, that Herro gets “disregarded” because he is white. The reality, however, is that skin color has nothing to do with Herro’s value.

Le Batard brought up Herro’s scoring averages but basketball is a more holistic game than that. There are a lot of other factors worth measuring, too.

(via DARKO)

Although advanced analytics are flawed, two of the most trusted “all-in-one” metrics both suggest Maxey has Herro beat by an obvious amount.

DARKO’s DPM and DunksAndThrees.com’s EPM both suggest that Maxey is, far and away, a superior player to Herro.

(via DunksandThrees.com)

Now all of this doesn’t even consider the fact that Maxey has a much better track record of success in the postseason than Herro has ever shown.

But even if Herro were better than Maxey, it wouldn’t matter.

The reality, as noted by the outstanding Trail Blazers reporter Sean Highkin, is that Portland has no need for another ball-dominant guard. They are already loaded in the backcourt with Scoot Henderson, Anfernee Simons and even Shaedon Sharpe.

If the Trail Blazers end up making a trade for Lillard, they would likely want wings or frontcourt players and not another backcourt ball handler. That role is going to Scoot Henderson, folks.

Should they go for a guard, though, it likely isn’t going to be one who is owed $30 million average annual value until 2027. They would likely much prefer the player who is still on a cost-controlled rookie scale contract so they can negotiate his extension on their own terms.

Just don’t blame Herro or Maxey for why this trade is taking forever. This is simply a silly offseason debate meant to make your blood boil … and nothing more.

The Tip-Off

Some NBA goodness from around the USA TODAY Sports network.

FTW

Mavericks center Marcus Bingham Jr. hilariously (and correctly!) dunked on the wrong basket in NBA Summer League. Mike Sykes explained why:

“We remember the fiasco with the Golden State Warriors this season that ended up in Mark Cuban actually protesting a loss because of a free basket the Warriors got behind an officiating mistake.

Now, the Mavs are finally on the right end of one of those mistakes. Summer Leaguer Marcus Bingham Jr. was the only person who realized it, though.

After a dead ball, the Mavericks were awarded the ball by the officials and just continued to play regularly. That is, until Marcus Bingham Jr. did the unthinkable.

He took the ball the other way and dunked it. It was HILARIOUS.”

You have to see this one to believe it.

HoopsHype trade rumors: Damian Lillard, Tyler Herro, Pascal Siakam, Knicks, Suns, Pacers, Nets, Mavericks, Hornets

Damian Lillard to Miami? Tyler Herro to Brooklyn? Here’s how the trade could look like

Here is what a Damian Lillard to Miami and Tyler Herro to Brooklyn trade could end up looking like.

Free agency came and went within the first 72 hours like usual, but there are still some major dominos yet to fall. Notably, Damian Lillard requesting a trade to Miami, which could limit Portland’s return.

Of course, the Blazers don’t have to honor his demand one year after extending for two years. Lillard’s four seasons remaining on his contract could sway other interested teams from topping the Heat’s best possible offer. The Nets, Celtics, Spurs, and Jazz are just some teams that could easily offer more draft equity and prospects, which the Blazers reportedly are prioritizing.

If the Heat do end up acquiring Lillard, it would almost certainly require sending out Tyler Herro. However, a third team will likely be required to acquire him since the Blazers reportedly aren’t interested in him. One of the more popular frameworks being floated around is a three-team trade with the Brooklyn Nets, who reportedly are interested in Herro.

Below is an explainer of what is required from the Heat and Nets to land their targets, and how existing trades they agreed to that aren’t official yet could help.

Trade rumor rankings: Damian Lillard, James Harden and more

HoopsHype ranks the five players who have appeared most often in trade rumors over the past week, led by Damian Lillard and James Harden.

The NBA trade market has been even spicier than we expected this summer with two stars players potentially on the verge of being moved at the time of this writing.

Of course, all eyes remain on Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard as it pertains to his trade request over the weekend with hopes of getting dealt to the reigning Eastern Conference champion, the Miami Heat.

Until that move is made (if it even is), however, the trade market could actually cool off for a bit, though another All-NBA-level guard is also reportedly on the block after negotiations on a new contract with his current team went poorly.

With so many big names to discuss, let’s jump right into the action.
