Former Vols’ student assistant joins Colorado State’s staff

A former Vols’ student assistant joins Colorado State’s coaching staff.

Tyler Gilliam has joined Colorado State’s coaching staff as an analyst.

“Excited to finally be in Fort Collins,” Gilliam announced. “Ready to get to work with the Rams’ special teams.”

He will be analyst with Colorado State’s special teams.

Gilliam has served as a graduate assistant at Georgia State since 2020.

From 2018-19, Gilliam served as a special teams student assistant for the University of Tennessee football program.

Jay Norvell was hired as Colorado State’s head coach in December. Norvell came to Colorado State after serving in the same capacity at Nevada from 2017-2021.

Norvell was co-offensive coordinator alongside Josh Heupel at Oklahoma from 2011-14.

Vols’ Tyler Gilliam set to join Georgia State.

KNOXVILLE — Tennessee special teams student assistant Tyler Gilliam is leaving UT for Georgia State.

Gilliam will serve as a recruiting and special teams graduate assistant for the Panthers.

He served the last two seasons as a special teams student assistant for the University of Tennessee football program.

The Vols and Georgia State met during the season opening game in 2019. Georgia State prevailed in a 38-30 win at Neyland Stadium. UT finished the season on a six-game winning streak and with a victory over Indiana in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.

Tennessee is scheduled to kickoff the 2020 campaign against Charlotte on Sept. 5 at Neyland Stadium.
