Falcons to release RB Devonta Freeman, OL Ty Sambrailo

After the report Monday morning that the team would be releasing cornerback Desmond Trufant, now Devonta Freeman and offensive lineman Ty Sambrailo will become cap casualties as well.

The Falcons aren’t being shy about getting their cap number down. After the report Monday morning that the team would be releasing cornerback Desmond Trufant, now Devonta Freeman and offensive lineman Ty Sambrailo will become cap casualties as well.

Freeman, who underwhelmed last season, finishes his Falcons career with 3,977 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns, to go along with 257 catches, 2,015 receiving yards and 11 reception touchdowns.

Cutting him will save roughly $3.5 million in cap space for 2020.

As for Sambrailo, his loss isn’t nearly as significant as he’s been primarily a backup tackle for Atlanta. He had a cap hit of about $5.7 million this season.

The Falcons will probably look to add both a running back and corner in the upcoming NFL draft.

Here’s all seven Fat Guy Touchdowns scored in the 2019 season

More than ever in NFL history, the big guys are making it into the end zone! Here are all seven Fat Guy Touchdowns in the 2019 NFL season.

Most times, when an offensive lineman reports as eligible, opposing defenses don’t take it seriously. The 2019 NFL season is when that should change, or more defensive coordinators will be caught unaware. Because there has been a rash of Fat Guy Touchdowns scored this season — there had been six through the first 16 weeks of the season, and against the Buccaneers in Week 17, Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter dialed up this bit of magic — a 35-yard touchdown pass from Matt Ryan to offensive tackle Ty Sambrailo.

We stand in awe.

And yes, it is fair to say that the Bucs blew this coverage in all sorts of ways.

Would you like to see every Fat Guy Touchdown scored this season? Touchdown Wire has you covered there. Because, as John Madden said in The Replacements, “I love to see a fat guy score. Because first you get a fat guy spike, then you get the fat guy dance.”

WATCH: Atlanta Falcons’ Ty Sambrailo scores a Fat Guy TD against Tampa Bay

The Atlanta Falcons scored a Fat Guy TD against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Ty Sambrailo is all of 6-foot-5 and 311 pounds. That didn’t prevent Dan Quinn from dialing up a trick play that turned the tackle out of Colorado State into a receiver Sunday against Tampa Bay.

The pass from Matt Ryan to Sambrailo went for 35 yards and gave Atlanta a 7-0 lead.

Adds to the historic number of fat guy TDs scored in 2019.
