Why Chiefs-Ravens kickoff is delayed on the first day of the 2024 NFL season

Inclement weather played a part in delaying Chiefs-Ravens on Thursday.

NFL fans tuning into Thursday Night Football will have to wait just a bit longer to see the first game of the 2024 season.

Thursday night’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens was delayed by 20 minutes — from an 8:20 p.m. ET start to an 8:40 p.m. ET start — due to some inclement weather rolling through the region. Specifically, a thunderstorm blew on through Kansas City as the teams were on the field for pregame warmups.

Thankfully, the storms came and went pretty quickly, despite the heavy rain and lightning strikes in the area. The storm, however, still caused a delay so the teams could finish their pregame warmups before game time.

Why the SEC isn’t on CBS anymore, explained

Here’s why you won’t be watching the SEC on CBS this year

For two decades now, we’ve gotten used to seeing the biggest SEC games broadcast on CBS.

You know what time it is when you hear that familiar college football jingle coming on your television. It always just felt like you were about to watch a good one, no matter who the teams playing were.

Chances are you probably were about to watch a good one since the SEC has been the most dominant conference in college football through the years, some of those games were the season’s most important games.

Now, you’ll have to watch those games somewhere else. The SEC’s games are no longer being broadcast on CBS’s network.

This fall, the SEC’s home will exclusively be on ESPN. The CBS deal expired at the end of the 2023 season and was never renewed.

However, the decision for both parties to move on isn’t a new one. According to Yahoo! Sports’ Ross Dellenger, the relationship had been deteriorating for years shortly after the conference added Texas A&M and Missouri to its coffers.

ESPN agreed to pay both schools the same as the previous 12 schools. CBS didn’t.

“While CBS owned rights to the No. 1 football game each week — as well as two doubleheaders a year — ESPN owned all other SEC games. When the league expanded, ESPN paid what is described as “pro-rata,” increasing distribution from 12 units to 14 to account for the two new schools.

CBS declined to do the same.”

So, when it was time to re-up the deal between the conference and the network, the two sides couldn’t reach a compromise.

Now, we’ll only watch SEC games on ESPN for the foreseeable future.

UFC free fight: Merab Dvalishvili spoils Henry Cejudo’s return from retirement at UFC 298

Watch Merab Dvalishvili defeat former champion Henry Cejudo to earn a title shot back at UFC 298.

The two fought back in February at UFC 298. Cejudo, who’s an Olympic gold medalist in wrestling, surprisingly struggled with the pressure and grappling from Dvalishvili and suffered a unanimous decision loss. This result made it even more clear that Dvalishvili was the No. 1 contender at 135 pounds.

You can watch Dvalishvili’s win over Cejudo in the video above.

Dvalishvili (17-4 MMA, 10-2 UFC) returns to the cage on Sept. 14 for his first UFC title fight. He takes on bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley (18-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) in the main event of UFC 306, which is set to go down at Sphere in Las Vegas.

All signs point to Beyoncé as the 2024 Democratic National Convention’s surprise guest on its final night

It sure looks like Beyoncé will make a surprise appearance on the final night of the 2024 DNC.

To close out the 2024 Democratic National Convention, a special guest has been tipped for the final night.

After CNN reported that a block of time during the 2024 DNC’s final night had been reserved for a surprise appearance, lots of guesses filled the air as to who it might be.

Well, all signs point to it being Beyoncé, who has given the green light for Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris to use the song “Freedom” for her and Tim Walz’s campaign.

Outside of Beyoncé’s support for the Barack Obama presidential campaigns, the music megastar campaigned for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and endorsed the Joe Biden/Kamala Harris presidential ticket in 2020.

Two big hints came on Thursday afternoon after Rep. Fentrice Driskell filmed a band practicing Beyoncé’ songs on the DNC stage and White House Political Director Emmy Ruiz shared a bee emoji, which hints to the “Queen Bey” nickname and the “Beyhive” of Beyoncé fans.

We’ll know soon enough once the final night of the DNC kicks off in Chicago at the United Center, one where Harris will formally accept her party’s nomination for president and deliver her keynote address.
