EA reveals Wild Hearts, an all-new hunting game from Koei Tecmo

There’ll be a full trailer later this week, potentially showing off gameplay.

There’s been plenty of hype for the mysterious collaboration between Electronic Arts (EA) and Koei Tecmo, but excitement is going into overdrive.

On Monday, EA revealed Wild Hearts, an all-new hunting title from the Dynasty Warriors team at Koei Tecmo. Outside of the name drop, we don’t know much about the game, but it’ll supposedly be a Monster Hunter-like inspired by feudal Japan.

Thankfully, there’ll be more details later this week. The reveal trailer for Wild Hearts is coming Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, at 7:00 A.M. PDT // 10:00 A.M. EDT // 2:00 P.M. GMT. So the wait to hear more isn’t a long one. 

Some official promo art for Wild Hearts was teased too, which you can check out below.

“The EA team fully embraces our creative independence and have become invaluable partners offering both development and publishing support,” Yosuke Hayashi, president of Koei Tecmo, said in a press release. “Adding the global resources of EA with our own will help us introduce a new kind of hunting game to a global audience of players and expand our reach into global markets. I’m really looking forward to the day that gamers from around the world can play this new game.”

It’s quite an interesting partnership. Hopefully, whatever is shown off later this week excites fans of the genre.

Netflix forms an in-house video game studio

Marko Lastikka, who many know from his tenure at EA and Zynga, is leading the Helsinki-based team.

Late last year, Netflix made significant strides in the games industry — particularly with its mobile app. Now, the company is branching out further. 

On Monday, Netflix announced the formation of an internal game development studio based in Helsinki, Finland. Marko Lastikka, formerly of Electronic Arts (EA) and Zynga, is leading the new studio.

“This is another step in our vision to build a world-class games studio that will bring a variety of delightful and deeply engaging original games – with no ads and no in-app purchases – to our hundreds of millions of members around the world,” Amir Rahimi, VP of Netflix Game Studios, said in a press release.

“It’s still early days, and we have much more work to do to deliver a great games experience on Netflix,” Rahimi continues. “Creating a game can take years, so I’m proud to see how we’re steadily building the foundation of our games studios in our first year, and look forward to sharing what we produce in the coming years.”

While Netflix hasn’t produced any original games yet, it’s produced plenty of small-screen adaptations. From the critically-acclaimed Arcane: League of Legends to the not-so-well-received Resident Evil. Hopefully, we get more of the latter quality-wise soon.

T-Pain asks people to stop harassing the Apex Legends dev team

The rapper insists fans should ‘Play something else’ if they don’t like it.

There have been many discussions within the games industry about handling toxic fanbases lately. Apex Legends developer Respawn spoke out about harassment of its development team last week, and that statement seems to have caught the attention of rapper T-Pain.

On Saturday, T-Pain addressed the Apex Legends community with a straightforward insistence that they should settle down.

“Bro, y’all have to [expletive] chill out. It’s a [expletive] game, my dude. Play something else if you hate it so much, bro,” T-Pain said on Twitter. “Walk away from your pc/console if you’ve become so consumed by a game that you feel the need to threaten the ppl that work hard to make it. Chill, bro.”

T-Pain plays Apex Legends pretty often and regularly streams matches via his Twitch channel. So it’s not all that surprising that he would speak about the statement from Respawn.

Keep in mind that fan feedback in games often turns ugly quickly. Destiny 2 studio Bungie had to take legal action against a player that was threatening an employee with violence. It’s becoming an all-too-common occurrence within games, and many developers are getting fed up.

Respawn still hasn’t publicly explained what prompted all of this, but not much else needs to be said. Be nice, folks.

Marvel has no plans for a video game MCU

The company is eager to give developers more artistic freedom with its superheroes.

It sounds like Marvel doesn’t want its upcoming video game projects to tie into each other. 

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Marvel Games VP and creative director Bill Rosemann explained this decision allows for more artistic freedom.

“The world is, amazingly, very familiar and accepting of the multiverse,” Rosemann said. “We have all these different realities. Now they’re all real, and we want to give everyone the freedom to tell their story. We don’t want to say ‘you can’t blow up the moon, because this game over here by another studio needs the moon’. We want to give everyone the freedom and the clear lane to tell their story.”

Many thought Disney wouldn’t go this route since the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is so staggeringly popular, but that extra creative wiggle-room will likely benefit developers tremendously. Marvel’s Midnight Suns and Iron Man from EA Motive will probably both have Tony Stark – yet it won’t be the same version of the billionaire playboy everyone loves.

“Every decision [EA Motive] are making about their Marvel universe, their Tony Stark, their Iron Man… they’re building it from the ground-up,” Rosemann continues. “But it is being built with what we call Marvel building blocks. When you play the game, it may not be the Iron Man story that you’ve experienced before, but there will be many similar things.”

In the same interview, Rosemann teases other unannounced Marvel video games. Here’s to hoping those Black Panther rumors are legit.

E3 returns as an in-person event in June 2023

The world’s biggest gaming trade show returns next year.

We’ve known that the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) would make a comeback next year for a hot minute, but now there are actual dates.

On Monday, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced that E3 will take place from June 13, 2023, through June 16, 2023, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Unlike prior iterations of E3, ReedPop will produce the event as part of a new strategic partnership.

“E3 is one of the global gaming industry’s few opportunities to come together, unite as one loud voice, and show the world what it is creating,” Kyle Marsden-Kish, ReedPop VP of gaming, said in a press release. “Our vision is to reunite the industry by re-establishing the traditional E3 week, bring back that spark, and restore E3’s role as a truly magical global showcase event for game creators and consumers.”

ReedPop organizes other massive conventions and trade shows, such as the PAX, Star Wars Celebration, and New York Comic Con.

There’s been plenty of speculation that E3 was going away, though the ESA has been adamant that the show will go on. This past summer, E3 didn’t even have a digital event, leaving companies like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo to hold separate showcases.

First trailer for HBO’s The Last of Us is out

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey step into Naughty Dog’s grim world.

After many months of sizzle reel teases and set photos, HBO’s small screen adaptation of The Last of Us got an official teaser.

On Monday, HBO released the first-ever trailer for The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, respectively. In the footage, we can see several iconic moments from Naughty Dog’s beloved action-adventure title, including Firefly base camps and a carnival from the Left Behind DLC. There’s also a very brief shot of Storm Reid as Riley – blink, and you’ll miss it, though.

Check out The Last of Us‘ teaser trailer for yourself below.

Other notable cast members seen in the trailer include Gabriel Luna (Terminator: Dark Fate), Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), Anna Torv (Fringe), and Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus). Arguably the most exciting addition is Merle Dandridge, who is actually reprising the role of Marlene – yes, she did the voice and motion capture work in The Last of Us game too.

HBO’s The Last of Us isn’t premiering until 2023. There’s no exact date yet, but it can’t be long until we hear something. 

Last month, The Last of Us Part 1 came out on PS5 – a complete remake of the original game. So it might be worth checking out as a hold-over until the show comes out.

When was the last time Clemson won a national championship in football?

Here’s the last time Clemson won a football national championship.

The Dabo Swinney era of Clemson football has been a pretty prosperous one for the school — especially when you consider its history prior.

The Tigers last won a national championship during the 2018 College Football Playoff where they came back from a 13-0 deficit at the half to win the game. Trevor Lawrence’s unbelievable brilliance as a true freshman quarterback had everyone in awe.

That championship run by Clemson had elements of surprise in it, but it turned out to me more of what we’ve grown accustomed to from the program.

Before 2018, Clemson also won a national title in 2016. Before then, however, their earliest title came in 1981.

Oh, sorry, I forgot I had started writing this post. What was I lost in during that little bout of public depression?

I looked at the NFL’s Thursday Night Football game tonight and was sadly reminded that it’s the Steelers vs. the Browns.

Oof.

The NFL has done us wrong with this one, my friends. Mitch Trubisky, who has been terrible so far in Pittsburgh, should never be on primetime but here we are. Oh, and he’s set to battle a Browns team that in Week 2 suffered one of the worst losses any team could ever suffer when they gave up two TDs in the final two minutes to the New York Jets and lost by a point.

To the NEW YORK JETS!!!

The NFL had a good run there with its early primetime games. We started with Bills-Rams, which had tons of storylines. Last Thursday they gave us Herbert vs. Mahomes. On Monday they gave us not one, but two games and sure while they were both blowouts we still got to see the Bills put on another show in Buffalo and Jalen Hurts become a star in Philly.

Now get the…  the 1-1 Steelers and the 1-1 Browns in an AFC North matchup that really should only be interesting to fans of teams in the AFC North… as well as anybody gambling on this thing to make it a little enjoyable.

NFL Week 3 does have some good games this week – leading with Buffalo at Miami at 1 p.m. on Sunday. That should be a great one that will tell us a lot about both teams.

So while we get ready for tonight’s game, which we’re all going to watch because we all just watch what the NFL gives us, check out our picks against the spread for every Week 2 game, our fantasy studs, duds, and sleepers, and our five best picks for survivor pools.

When was the last time Florida State won a national championship in football?

Here’s the last time Florida State won a football national championship.

Florida State is a program with a lot of history in the college football world. The school has traditionally one of the deepest talent pools in the country — particularly when it comes to defensive backs.

Despite having that talent in recent decades, however, its success hasn’t resulted in too many national championship runs. The last national championship the school won came in 2013, which happened to be the final year of the BCS era.

Jameis Winston led Florida State over Marcus Mariota and the Oregon Ducks. Winston went on to be the first pick in the NFL Draft, and FSU hasn’t quite been back to that stage since.

The school also won a national championship in 1999, which was the second year of the BCS era.

UFC free fight: Mackenzie Dern taps out Nina Nunes with first-round armbar

Ahead of her main event matchup with Yan Xiaonan, relive Mackenzie Dern’s finish of Nina Nunes at UFC on ABC 2.

It didn’t take long for [autotag]Mackenzie Dern[/autotag] to take [autotag]Nina Nunes[/autotag] into her world.

Looking to make it four straight wins, Dern welcomed Nunes back to the octagon on the main card of UFC on ABC 2 last April.

Dern rushed Nunes with some hard combinations until she managed to clinch up and stack her against the cage. Nunes broke free, but Dern was able to latch onto a single leg and trip her to the mat. The ADCC champion controlled Nunes in top position and eventually transitioned to an armbar. Nunes fought hard, but once Dern was able to separate her arm, she forced the quick tap from Nunes.

Dern (12-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) returns to action Oct. 1 when she takes on [autotag]Yan Xiaonan[/autotag] (15-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 211, which takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
