DL Trysten Hill to sign with Browns

Hill played six games for the Cardinals and had a sack, six tackles, three tackles for loss and two quarterback hits.

The Arizona Cardinals are losing another one of their free agents, albeit a lesser-known one. Defensive lineman Trysten Hill is expected to sign with the Cleveland Browns, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Hill was claimed off waivers during the season by the Cardinals after he was waived by the Dallas Cowboys.

He appeared in six games for Arizona and had six tackles, one sack, three tackles for loss and two quarterback hits.

He ended the season on injured reserve.

He is the third Cardinals free agent to land elsewhere. Defensive lineman Zach Allen signed with the Denver Broncos and cornerback Byron Murphy landed with the Minnesota Vikings.

Browns sign third defensive tackle of free agency in Trysten Hill

The Browns add their third defensive tackle.

The Cleveland Browns have added their third defensive tackle of NFL free agency, signing Trysten Hill. After landing both Dalvin Tomlinson and Maurice Hurst early this offseason, they now add another body to a room that needs desperately overhauled.

Hill, formerly of the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals, is entering his fifth season in the NFL as he has shown flash but lacked consistency. He is, however, an extremely explosive player who has tended to fair well as a pass rusher.

With the reputation of a bit of a dirty player who participates in extra-curricular activity after the whistle, the Browns will need to place solid veterans around him like Tomlinson. His contract structure will be interesting as it feels like the Browns may be throwing one-year deals into a room to create competition at the position.

DL Trysten Hill day-to-day with knee sprain

He left the game on Sunday in the first quarter with a knee injury.

The Arizona Cardinals lost defensive lineman Trysten Hill in the first quarter of their 19-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It was a knee injury and he was immediately ruled out of the rest of the game.

The injury is not serious.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the injury is only a knee sprain.

He is day-to-day.

The Cardinals will be back at practice Wednesday. They have only two games remaining on their schedule, as they have already been eliminated from postseason contention.

In six games with the Cardinals, Hill has one sack, six tackles, three tackles for loss and two quarterback hits.

Cardinals claim DL Trysten Hill, a pre-trade deadline target, off waivers

The Cardinals almost traded for Hill but end up landing him after he was cut by the Cowboys.

The Arizona Cardinals did not make a trade before the NFL’s Tuesday deadline, but it turns out they did consider it. However, they ended up landing a player they had interest in and didn’t have to give up any compensation.

The team announced Wednesday it acquired former Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Trysten Hill, waived by Dallas on Tuesday.

Hill was selected in the second round of the 2019 draft by the Cowboys and spent the last three and a half seasons with them.

He had appeared in seven games for Dallas and played 138 defensive snaps, picking up six tackles, two tackles for loss and three quarterback hits.

He has not played more than seven games in any season but did start all five games in which he played for Dallas in 2020.

He is 6-3 and 308 lbs. With their depth tested with injuries on the defensive line, Hill could see playing time right away.

To make room for Hill on the roster, running back Darrel Williams was placed on injured reserve.

If you think there’s roster problems I feel bad for you son, 15 teams traded but the Cowboys made none

If you think there’s roster problems I feel bad for you son, 15 teams traded but the Cowboys made none – here’s what they did and didn’t do. | From @KDDrummondNFL

If you don’t like the lyrics you can press fast forward.

Trade deadline came, trade deadline went. The Cowboys stood ten toes down, literally. Despite a ton of hype that was injected into the fan base when owner Jerry Jones hinted he was more than ready to give up some future draft capital to win now, Dallas didn’t take part in the most active trade deadline day in league history. In fact, not only did the Cowboys not add anyone, but they decided to move away from someone, releasing 2019 second-round pick Trysten Hill. Meanwhile, 15 different teams were involved in draft-day trades.

3 Stars: Cowboys young veterans focus the spotlight on themselves vs Chargers

Young veterans stepped up in a big way while the starters once again rested during the preseason. @CDPiglet finds who shined the brightest against the Chargers.

On August 18, 2012, the Cowboys lost to the then San Diego Chargers, 28-20, starting a ten-year drought of road preseason games. It is only right then that Dallas breaks the streak against the Los Angeles Chargers, soundly defeating them, 32-18. The club turned in a pretty complete effort as their starters sat out once again.

The backups, and players vying for a chance to make the 53-man roster as depth guys, showed up on Saturday night in a big way. The score doesn’t really matter in how coaches evaluate performance, but the combination of great individual efforts led to a decisive win. Who stood out the most? Turnovers and great special teams play make three stars much easier to pick any game, even in the preseason.

6 Cowboys who could be shocking cuts before the 2022 regular season

Sometimes it’s about who’s better. But sometimes there are other factors at play when it comes to the initial 53-man roster. @KDDrummondNFL looks at a few names that would raise an eyebrow if let go.

The Dallas Cowboys may not be as deep as they have been in years past, but that doesn’t mean they will have an easier time when it comes to putting together their 53-man roster. There are still decisions to make for Stephen Jones, Will McClay and head coach Mike McCarthy that include talent, but go beyond who the best player is right now (or in three weeks).

In addition to who offers the best performance, the team will be looking to ensure they don’t say goodbye to potential they want to continue harnessing. Beyond that there is the injury factor for guys the club may look to bring back during the season, and the rules to which those maneuvers can happen. Mixed all together and there could be some interesting decisions made come August 30. Here’s a look at six players who could be on the outside looking in at the initial 53-man roster.

Cowboys activate Malik Hooker, Trysten Hill off COVID list; sign new LB to practice squad

Wednesday also saw Tyron Smith at practice, Noah Brown’s 21-day return window open, and JaQuan Hardy and Brandon Smith return from COVID. | From @ToddBrock24f7

Wednesday saw multiple developments on the Cowboys roster, with several notable players being upgraded as the team prepares to host Arizona on Sunday afternoon. It’s a game the Cowboys need to win to maintain hope of earning the NFC’s No. 1 seed entering the postseason.

Safety Malik Hooker and defensive tackle Trysten Hill were activated off the Reserve/COVID list; both took part in practice Wednesday. Hooker was placed on the list Dec. 23; Hill had been in protocol since Dec. 18.

Left tackle Tyron Smith participated in individual drills, lending further credence to Stephen Jones’s prediction to a Dallas radio station on Monday that he would make his return in Week 17 after sitting out the past two games with an ankle injury.

Running back JaQuan Hardy and wide receiver Brandon Smith have been taken off the Practice Squad/COVID list and are back on the practice squad.

Wide receiver Noah Brown has been designated for return from a groin injury; he’ll begin his 21-day observation window and can be moved to the active roster within that time.

The Cowboys have added linebacker Devante Bond to the practice squad. That signing comes after losing Francis Bernard to a groin injury against Washington and then the COVID watchlist the next day. Bond is just the team’s fifth healthy linebacker, behind Micah Parsons, Leighton Vander Esch, Keanu Neal, and Luke Gifford.

Bond was a sixth-round draft pick by the Buccaneers in 2016 out of Oklahoma. He logged 36 tackles over three-plus seasons in Tampa in a tenure that included injuries and a suspension, then was released partway into the 2019 campaign. Chicago signed Bond in late 2019; he bounced on and off their practice squad until January 2021.

Bond practiced Wednesday and wore No. 51.

Cowboys’ DT Osa Odighizuwa activated from COVID list for Week 16

Rookie Osa Odighizuwa returns to the Cowboys facility just four days after testing positive for COVID. Trysten Hill is still on COVID list. | From @StarConscience

The Dallas Cowboys had a spirited defensive performance in Week 15 against the New York Giants, forcing four turnovers in a 21-6 victory. They did so without two important pieces of their interior  as rookie defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa and third-year man Trysten Hill were placed on the Reserve/COVID list.

As the team pursues their fourth-straight win and a 5-0 record within the division, they will have one of those pieces back when they attempt to do so. Odighizuwa has been taken off the COVID list and can resume practicing but the Cowboys will be cautious in their approach in getting him back to action. Hill, however, will have to wait a little longer as he is still under league protocols.

Dallas could already have the NFC East title wrapped up by kickoff but if not, they will have a stronger defensive interior to work towards that goal.

Getting Odighizuwa back gives the Cowboys’ defense another weapon to get pressure on the quarterback to go along with DeMarcus Lawrence, Randy Gregory, Micah Parsons, and Neville Gallimore who have all made impact plays over the last two games.

Washington gave the keys to the car to quarterback Garrett Gilbert on Tuesday night against the Philadelphia Eagles due to starter Tyler Heinicke and backup Kyle Allen being placed on the Reserve/COVID list. No matter who gets the start in Week 16 against the Cowboys, they will face a fully loaded defensive front that is peaking at the right time.

Cowboys DTs Trysten Hill, Osa Odighizuwa placed on Reserve/COVID list

The Cowboys defensive front will be down two soliders as they’ve been placed on the Reserve/COVID list. From @StarConscience

There’s been a massive COVID outbreak across the NFL over the last few days causing the rescheduling of several games over the weekend. The Dallas Cowboys got wide receiver Cedrick Wilson back on Friday when he was activated just four days after testing positive.

That was undoubtedly good news for America’s Team ahead of their NFC East battle with the New York Giants however Saturday brought an unexpected setback. Defensive tackles Trysten Hill and Osa Odighizuwa have been placed on the Reserve/COVID list and will miss Sunday’s game.

Odighizuwa has started 12 of the Cowboys’ 13 games. He’s amassed 30 tackles (six tackles for loss), two sacks, and 10 quarterback hits. The third-round pick has logged at least 30 snaps in every game and his 504 snaps on the season are good for 58% of the Cowboys defensive snaps in 2021.

Hill tore his ACL last season, ironically, against the Giants, the same game when quarterback Dak Prescott suffered his season-ending ankle injury. He was placed on the PUP list (physically unable to perform) in August. He’s appeared in every game since being activated in Week 10 except for the Cowboys Week 13 matchup with the New Orleans Saints due to being suspended for one game for throwing a punch against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thanksgiving.

Neville Gallimore, Carlos Watkins, Quinton Bohanna, and Justin Hamilton will have to assert themselves even more on Sunday with Hill and Odighizuwa out. Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence will likely slide inside for some snaps as well.
