No surprise: Treylon Burks unanimous choice as Player of the Game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks had another special day as the Hogs rolled over UAPB.

In a day filled with highlights for just about everyone on the Arkansas roster, the Razorbacks’ best player was again the Razorbacks’ best player.

Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks is our unanimous Offensive Player of the Game after scoring three touchdowns in the Hogs’ 45-3 win over UAPB.

Defensively, Arkansas may have had a lapse or two, but the Razorbacks still managed to allow its reserves to get a majority of playing time. We still went with a pair of regulars.

Safety Myles Slusher made his case to get more run in the absence of Jalen Catalon and linebacker Hayden Henry continued his moderately surprising season as Arkansas’ best defender at that position, too.

Here are the Players of the Game for Arkansas against the Golden Lions.

Razorbacks roll over Arkansas-Pine Bluff ahead of bye week

Arkansas had no trouble with FCS Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday.

Arkansas’ three-game losing streak came to an end Saturday inside War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock as the Razorbacks handled Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 45-3.

Quarterback KJ Jefferson was finished at halftime after throwing four touchdowns and leading the Hogs to all 45 of its points at the break.

Wide receiver Treylon Burks had his first career three-touchdown day as he caught two of those scores from Jefferson and ran for another, a 49-yarder, on a jet sweep. Tight end Blake Kern caught his first touchdown of the year and freshman wide receiver Ketron Jackson Jr. also had his first career score, both from Jefferson.

On the ground, nine different Razorbacks had carries. Dominique Johnson led with 91 yards on six rushes.

Nathan Parodi scored the first Arkansas punt return touchdown since the 2011 season when he went 80 yards to the end zone in the second quarter.

The Arkansas defense had a couple of lapses early, but settled to allow just XX yards to the Golden Lions. The Razorbacks came away with two interceptions, as well, by Myles Slusher and Malik Chavis.

The win was expected and allowed the Hogs to regain some confidence after consecutive losses to Georgia, Ole Miss and Auburn, sending Arkansas from the top 10 to outside the top 25. The Razorbacks are off on Halloween weekend for a bye but return the following week back in Fayetteville against Mississippi State.

WATCH: Treylon Burks gets his first career 3-touchdown day

Treylon Burks notched his first career three-touchdown day before halftime against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

At some point, the world should recognize Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks as the best wideout in the country.

The Razorbacks junior scored his third touchdown of the day, a career high, on a 39-yard pass from quarterback KJ Jefferson. Burks ran for a 49-yard score in the first quarter and caught a 19-yard touchdown pass earlier in the second. Jefferson has thrown for four touchdowns in the first half.

Arkansas led Arkansas-Pine Bluff after the first half, 45-0.

Burks previously had two two-touchdown games in his career: last week against Auburn and last year against Texas A&M.

At halftime against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Burks had four catches for 89 yards and two carries for 56 yards. Jefferson went 10 of 17 passing for 194 yards and the four scores.

Burks entered the day fifth in the SEC in catches (38), first in yards (628), tied for third in touchdowns (5) and first in receptions for 20 yards or more (12).

Arkansas WR Treylon Burks shows off his wheels on long TD run

Watch Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks take a handoff and race 50 yards to the end zone

We already know that Arkansas’ Treylon Burks is one of the best wide receivers in college football, but it looks like he could be one heck of a running back, too.

In the early going of Saturday’s game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Burks went in motion and took a handoff from quarterback K.J. Jefferson, turning the corner and hitting another gear as he raced past the entire defense for a 50-yard touchdown.

Burks’ rare combination of size, athleticism and physicality should make him one of the first offensive skill position players off the board when the 2022 NFL draft rolls around.

WATCH: Treylon Burks takes the jet sweep 49 yards for a score against Pine Bluff

Arkansas’ Treylon Burks can do it all.

Arkansas has had two drives against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and the Razorbacks have two touchdowns.

Blake Kern caught an 18-yard score from KJ Jefferson to cap a 5-play, 65-yard drive to start the game. And after the Golden Lions went three-and-out, Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks took a jet sweep 49 yards to the house.

The rushing touchdown is the first of the career for the junior from Warren, Arkansas. He has 12 career touchdown catches. The projected first-round pick entered the game with 38 catches for 628 yards and five scores this season.

Arkansas (4-3) has lost three straight games entering Saturday’s contest in Little Rock at War Memorial Stadium. The game marks the first time the Razorbacks have played an in-state opponent since 1944.

Treylon Burks shows out, named Player of the Game against Auburn

Treylon Burks, Hayden Henry, Bumper Pool and Montaric Brown are Arkansas’ Players of the Game against Auburn.

After the crowd cleared Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium and the coaches and players finished their press conferences, the media returned to the press box and collectively asked the same thing.

What the heck happened today?

Arkansas was the better team Saturday against Auburn, despite the 38-23 final score. The Razorbacks had more yards, a better third-down conversion percentage, more established drives. Just about everything went the Hogs’ way. Save big plays.

And officials. But that’s neither here nor there.

Arkansas’ statistics are accordingly stellar offensively and, frankly, they aren’t terrible defensively, especially considering the Razorbacks lacked three starters on that side of the ball.

So while we chew on what exactly did go wrong, here are Arkansas’ Players of the Game.

Banged-up Hogs fall to Auburn

Arkansas outplayed Auburn for most of the game Saturday. Big plays and errors made it moot.

It’s hardly a death knell, but Arkansas’ 38-23 loss Auburn on Saturday was the air seeping out of balloon as the Razorbacks finally get a sorely needed break.

Auburn used big plays to dispatch the Razorbacks in a game that was, for parts, closer than the final scored made it seem.

Arkansas outgained the Tigers, 460 yards to 427. The Razorbacks had fewer penalties for fewer yards. They were better on third down. They had more first downs. The teams split the turnovers. It was a game the Hogs could have, perhaps should have, won.

But it all turned on three plays.

Arkansas led by three, 17-14, early in the third quarter when KJ Jefferson was sacked in the end zone and stripped by Derick Hall. Auburn’s Marcus Harris recovered in the end zone.

In response, Jefferson led the Hogs 46 yards to the red zone. But on 4th-and-3, the quarterback was stopped for a one-yard gain.

Auburn quarterback Bo Nix, on the next play, found Demtris Robertson for a 71-yard touchdown.

That was all she wrote.

If nothing else, it shows precisely the type of team Arkansas is under coach Sam Pittman in his second year. The Razorbacks are, no doubt, better than they have been in the last five years. They’re also not quite over the proverbial hump.

Arkansas was short three starters on defense. All-American safety Jalen Catalon, defensive tackle Markell Utsey and cornerback LaDarrius Bishop all missed the game. As good as the Razorbacks reserves have been, they were not quite ready for such extended playing time.

But the Razorbacks season isn’t over. Pittman’s building of the program isn’t over. The more recruiting classes he brings, the more those depth issues will solve themselves. And it wasn’t as if Saturday was a disaster, either. The Razorbacks were the better team.

Still, a breather couldn’t come at a better time. After losing three straight games, Arkansas gets a bit of a break next week when Hogs host FCS Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the yearly Little Rock game.

Rest. Recover. Rebuild. There’s a long way to go.

Watch Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks make yet another highlight-reel catch

At this point, highlight-reel catches from Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks are becoming a weekly occurrence.

We saw yet another one Saturday, as Burks went above the rim for a 30-yard touchdown grab against Auburn, giving the Razorbacks the lead early in the third quarter.

Burks is a complete pass-catcher with size, athleticism and physicality, and it won’t be surprising if he’s the first receiver off the board in the 2022 NFL draft.

WATCH: Treylon Burks hauls in deep ball from KJ Jefferson to give Arkansas lead over Auburn

KJ Jefferson and Treylon Burks might be the best quarterback and wide receiver duo in the SEC. The two Arkansas starts hooked up for a second time against Auburn.

Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks is considered a first-round NFL draft choice when he chooses to leave for a reason.

That reason was on display against Auburn.

Burks caught a 30-yard ball over the middle from quarterback KJ Jefferson on the first drive of the second half to give the No. 19 Razorbacks a 17-14 lead over the Tigers.

It was the second straight series the two hooked up. Jefferson hit Burks on a double-jump pass on the final Hogs offensive series of the first half to turn a 14-3 Auburn lead to 14-10.

The Hogs stopped Auburn on the Tigers’ ensuing drive after Burks’ second score and Arkansas began to march again, beginning to put any thoughts of an upset from the front to the back of Auburn’s mind.

WATCH: KJ Jefferson pulls a double-jump TD pass to Treylon Burks

Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson pulled off an absolutely sick double-jump touchdown pass to Treylon Burks against Auburn.

Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson marched Arkansas, in less than three minutes, to the Auburn end zone, pulling the Hogs within four before the teams headed to halftime.

The way he did it…wow.

Jefferson initially tried a jump pass from the Arkansas from about 14 yards out. He didn’t let go of the ball, though. Instead, Jefferson came down, went forward in the pocket a couple feet and then jumped again.

This time he let the ball go and found Treylon Burks in the end zone for an 11-yard score. The teams went to halftime, 14-10, Auburn.

The momentum was all Hogs.
