San Diego (55-50) defeated Washington (47-56), 3-0, on Thursday at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.

Dylan Cease (9-8) started for the Padres and pitched a complete-game no-hitter against the Nationals. He recorded nine strikeouts, while allowing three walks. Cease totaled 114 pitches, including 71 strikes.

The Padres have recorded two no-hitters in franchise history.

Former Vol Trey Lipscomb was not in the lineup for the Nationals on Thursday. He was recalled by Washington on July 6.

Lipscomb has recorded a .222 batting average, one home run and 10 RBIs in 51 games during the 2024 season.

Lipscomb was selected by Washington in the third-round of the 2022 Major League Baseball draft (No. 84 overall). He won the 2022 Southeastern Conference Tournament and regular-season championship with the Vols.

Lipscomb was recalled by the Nationals from Triple-A Rochester on July 6. In five games since being recalled, the former Vol is 3-for-18 and scored one run.

Washington announced roster moves, including two former Vols, on Saturday.

“The Washington Nationals recalled infielder Trey Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester and designated third baseman Nick Senzel for assignment on Saturday,” Washington President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo announced.

Lipscomb was selected by Washington in the third-round of the 2022 Major League Baseball draft (No. 84 overall). He won the 2022 Southeastern Conference Tournament and regular-season championship with the Vols.

Washington will host St. Louis on Saturday at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. First pitch between the Nationals and Cardinals is slated for 4:05 p.m. EDT on Saturday.

Three former Vols started in the Chicago White Sox-Washington Nationals game on Wednesday.

Chicago defeated Washington, 2-0, on Wednesday at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois.

Three former Vols started in the contest.

Former Vol Garrett Crochet started and pitched five innings for the White Sox. He recorded six strikeouts, while allowing three hits and three walks. Crochet totaled 89 pitches, including 56 strikes.

Former Vols Trey Lipscomb and Nick Senzel went for a combined 0-for-6 against Chicago. Lipscomb started at second base, while Senzel started at third base for the Nationals.

The White Sox won the three-game series against Washington, 2-1.
