The Spartans are set to have six NHL draftees on their roster as they enter the 2023-24 season, which will be the second for Nightingale as the head man in East Lansing.

As the 2023 NHL Entry Draft has concluded, take a look at who will be on the upcoming roster that has been drafted into the NHL:

MSU bound goalie Trey Augustine has been selected in the 2nd round of the NHL draft

Michigan State hockey coach Adam Nightingale hit a homerun when he landed United States National Development Team u-18 goaltender Trey Augustine, flipping his commitment in favor of the Spartans over the rival Michigan Wolverines.

The significance of the Spartans netminder in 2023-24 has just been amplified, as the Detroit Red Wings have selected Augustine with the 41st overall pick in the 2nd round of the NHL entry draft.

Michigan State hockey flips Michigan goaltender commit

Michigan State has flipped one of the top goalies in the prep ranks from Michigan

New Michigan State hockey coach Adam Nightingale has been hot on the recruiting trail during his short tenure in East Lansing. Nightingale has already landed a plethora of top players at the prep level and he has no end in sight.

Trey Augustine is one of the top goaltenders in the 2005 age group, and as a 17-year old, was brought up to play with the U18 USA National Team due to his play.

Augustine was recently committed to Michigan, one of their prized recruits and goalie of the future, but Coach Nightingale has shifted that tide and has completed the flip — getting Augustine to decommit from Michigan and commit to Michigan State.
