MSU Basketball has already landed the commitment of the top 2022 high school prospect in Emoni Bates. The top 2021 prospect is 5-star center Chet Holmgren, a player who the Spartans have not been connected with, until today.

Holmgren, who is from Minnesota, is the No. 1 player in the country for 2021 and is currently being heavily recruited by Gonzaga, Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio State, with Gonzaga currently getting the nod in the 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions.

However, on Friday, a seemingly innocuous Tweet led Michigan State fans to start wildly speculating on a possible addition of Holmgren to the Spartans.

Mel Tucker did a solid job putting together his 2021 recruiting class and will likely look to the transfer portal to round that class out. It will be the 2022 class where Tucker can really show what he can do for Michigan State Football. On Monday, the Spartans got one step closer to landing a big recruit when 3-star safety Trevon Howard put MSU in his top-5.

Howard is the No. 382 ranked player in the 2022 class, putting him at the higher end of 3-star players for 247Sports. Howard plays for IMG Academy and is the No. 21 ranked safety in his class.

The Spartans will compete with Arizona, Colorado, USF, and Iowa State for his commitment.
