WATCH: Trevon Diggs gets another INT in Pro Bowl debut

Trevon Diggs doing what he does best!

Former Alabama defensive back Trevon Diggs is one of the fastest-rising stars in the NFL. In his sophomore season with the Dallas Cowboys, Diggs recorded a league-high 11 interceptions, but he snuck in one more, that doesn’t count, in the 2022 Pro Bowl.

Diggs stayed with his receiver and broke off when Mac Jones delivered a pass with questionable placement. Once Diggs located the ball, he saw it into his arms and he took off.

He now heads into the offseason as one of the league’s top cornerbacks and a Pro-Bowler that did what he does best under the lights.

Trevon Diggs ties Cowboys record with 11th interception of the season

Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is the most remarkable interception creator of his era, and he’s matching all-time records at this point.

At a certain point, the plays Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs does give up tend to fade into irrelevance, because of the opponent plays he removes. So, when you hear that Diggs “isn’t actually effective” on a play-to-play basis because he’d allowed 51 receptions on 88 targets for 899 yards, and five touchdowns (per Pro Football Focus) coming into Week 16… I mean, that’s all correct, and Diggs will give up big plays from time to time, but when you’re facing the opponent’s best receiver every week, and you can erase things as Diggs can, how much does that matter?

Diggs had a league-high 10 interceptions as the Cowboys prepared to face the Washington Football Team on Sunday night, and it didn’t take too long for No. 11 to show up. With 11:33 left in the first quarter, and on Washington’s second offensive play of the game, quarterback Taylor Heinicke tried a deep pass to receiver Terry McLaurin, and Diggs was right on the spot, running the route better than McLaurin did.

That interception tied Diggs with the great Everson Walls (1981) for the Cowboys’ all-time single-season interception mark, and with that interception, Diggs also became the first NFL player since Walls to post more than 10 interceptions in a season. Only 13 players in pro football history have more than 11 interceptions in a season, and Diggs has an outside shot of matching Dick “Night Train” Lane’s record of 14, which Lane set with the Los Angeles Rams in 1952.

WATCH: Trevon Diggs makes Cowboys history with two interceptions

Trevon Diggs continues to impress for the Dallas Cowboys and makes history!

While Alabama has players littered throughout the NFL, two of the best play for the Dallas Cowboys. Amari Cooper and Trevon Diggs have been balling this season, especially the cornerback.

Maybe switching back to his college number (No. 7) did the trick or Dan Quinn has made a huge difference. But Diggs’ sophomore season has been a massive upgrade from his rookie.

On Sunday, he continued to add to the record book with a couple of interceptions.

Late in the third quarter, Diggs was dropping into zone coverage. Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold must not have seen him over the middle, throwing it right to the cornerback. It marked Diggs’ fourth interception of the year.

According to Dallas Cowboys PR, Diggs became the first player in Cowboys history to record four interceptions in the first four games of the season since the NFL merged in 1966.

Sixteen players have done it in the NFL since the same date. But the party was not over there.

On the next Carolina possession, Diggs jumped in front of another pass from Darnold, recording his second interception of the day. Five in four games for the second-year corner.

Diggs was not seen on the field after his second interception. Nevertheless, a 36-28 win moved Dallas to 3-1 on the season, with defensive turnovers being the difference thus far.

When the Cowboys got Diggs in the early second round of the 2020 draft, it was seen as one of the biggest steals. Many had the Alabama corner graded as a first-round talent. Dallas considered taking him at No. 17 pick as well.

Diggs has quickly turned into the leader of Dan Quinn’s defense. If his interceptions habits continue, Defensive Player of the Year could become a real possibility.
