Titans concerned Trevon Coley’s foot injury could be season-ending

#Titans concerned Trevon Coley’s foot injury could be season-ending and he will also see a specialist tomorrow:

After a strong start to training camp, Tennessee Titans edge defender Trevon Coley continued that good run of in the team’s first preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday.

That abruptly ended due to injury, and there’s fear it could be a long-term issue.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Coley will have his foot injury looked at on Sunday and there’s a concern that it could be “season-ending,” per the report:

Coley, 27, signed with the Titans earlier this offseason. He was widely considered a surprise standout at Titans training camp so far this summer.

The team will wait until hearing the final word on his status before making any sort of decision on Coley. Bare minimum, Coley will likely miss at least the start of the regular season and possible a good chunk of it.

DL Trevon Coley claimed off waivers by Jets

Coley was released on Saturday and presumably would have been brought bac to the practice squad.

The Arizona Cardinals, with the announcement that defensive lineman Jordan Phillips will be unable to play in Week 15 after reinjuring in hamstring on Sunday, will be down a second defensive lineman.

Trevon Coley, who has spent time on the active roster and the practice squad, was claimed off waivers by the New York Jets.

Coley was released on Saturday when Phillips was reactivated off injured reserve. He had been with the team all year, whether it was on the 53-man roster or on the practice squad. It was presumed that the Cardinals wanted to re-sign him to the practice squad.

This season, Coley has played in six games, starting twice. He has 14 tackles this year, one sack and two quarterback hits.

Coley was starter for the Cleveland Browns in his first two NFL seasons in 2017 and 2018.

Arizona has no shortage of defensive linemen on the practice squad currently. They have four — Michael Dogbe, P.J. Johnson, Stacy McGee and Daylon Mack.

Jets claim K Chase McLaughlin, DL Trevon Coley off waivers

The Jets have claimed Chase McLaughlin and Trevon Coley off waivers.

The Jets claimed kicker Chase McLaughlin and defensive lineman Trevon Coley off waivers on Monday.

McLaughlin has played in three games for the Jacksonville Jaguars this season. He made four of his five field goal attempts and three of his four extra points. McLaughlin was previously with the Vikings in 2020 and split time between the Bills, Vikings, Chargers, 49ers and Colts in 2019 after going undrafted out of Illinois. For McLaughlin’s career, he’s 22-28 on field goals and 29-30 on extra points.

This pickup doesn’t bode well for Sergio Castillo, who went 1-4 on field goals in Sunday’s 40-3 loss to the Seahawks. Sam Ficken is also expected to return to practice this week, so there will be added competition ahead of Sunday’s game against the Rams.

As for Coley, he played in six games for the Arizona Cardinals this season. He registered 14 total tackles, three for loss, and one sack. The Cardinals waived Coley on Saturday. Coley has spent time with the Ravens, Browns, Colts and Washington.

Cardinals activate G J.R. Sweezy from IR, make other roster moves

Leki Fotu lands on injured reserve and Trevon Coley is signed to the roster.

The Arizona Cardinals made a few roster moves on Saturday, a day ahead of their Week 10 home game against the Buffalo Bills. They get a starter back from injured reserve, place a player on IR and bring three players up from the practice squad.

Cardinals protect four players on practice squad in Week 10

They protect Trevon Coley, Michael Dogbe, D.J. Foster and Jace Whittaker.

The Arizona Cardinals have made their practice squad protection for the week. They again have protected four players for Week 10 as they prepare for the Buffalo Bills.

According to the NFL transaction report, the following players cannot sign with another team.

  • DL Trevon Coley
  • DL Michael Dogbe
  • RB D.J. Foster
  • CB Jace Whittaker

All those positions have questions with injuries. Starting running back Kenyan Drake missed the last game with an ankle injury. Defensive tackle Jordan Phillips has a hamstring injury. He only played 12 snaps on Sunday. Cornerback Byron Murphy began the week on the COVID list and Drew Kirkpatrick missed the last game. Whittaker played the second-most snaps at cornerback for the team on Sunday.

Foster has been elevated to the roster multiple games this season. He played his first offensive snaps since 2017 on Sunday. He is a core special teams player.

New Cardinals get jersey numbers; some returning Cardinals have changes

The Cardinals’ free agent additions will have the same numbers they did with their previous team.

The Arizona Cardinals now have jersey numbers assigned for all their players, including their newcomers. That has meant, in some cases, that players who were already on the roster had to change theirs.

Here are the jersey numbers for the new Cardinals players.

  • WR DeAndre Hopkins: No. 10
  • LB De’Vondre Campbell: No. 59
  • LB Devon Kennard: No. 42
  • DL Trevon Coley: No. 93
  • DL Jordan Phillips: No. 97
  • QB Chris Streveler: No. 15

These returning players have changed their numbers, some because of the newcomers.

  • WR Hakeem Butler goes from No. 17 to No. 18
  • S Chris Banjo goes from No. 38 to No. 31, previously worn by David Johnson
  • LB Dennis Gardeck goes from No. 42 to No. 45 to accommodate Kennard
  • DL Zach Allen goes from No. 97 to No. 94 to accommodate Phillips

Contracts for S Charles Washington, DL Trevon Coley completely unguaranteed

Both will make $825,000 in 2020 if they make the team. Neither received any signing bonus.

Two players with whom the Arizona Cardinals agreed to one-year contracts are safety Charles Washington and defensive lineman Trevon Coley. Washington returns to the team after playing one year, having been acquired off a waiver claim before the 2019 season. Coley is a new addition to the defensive lineman but was a starter for the Cleveland Browns in 2017 and 2018.

The details for both their contracts are in and the Cardinals have taken zero risk on either player. According to Over the Cap, neither player was given a signing bonus and neither has any salary guarantees for 2020.

Washington will make $825,000, the league minimum for a fourth-year player.

Coley’s contract is identical. He got no guaranteed money or signing bonus and will make $825,000 for the 2020 season if he makes the team.

Washington was a core special teams player in 2019 but missed several games with injuries. He did not play at all on defense.

He will have to prove his worth on special teams again to make the team.

Coley has a chance to make the team and be at least a rotational player on the defensive line.
