UNC reaches out to 2024 five-star prospect

The UNC basketball program has reached out to this five-star shooting guard in the 2024 class as the contact period has begun.

Wednesday marks a big day for the 2024 class in terms of college basketball recruiting as coaches across the country are allowed to contact prospects in that class.

And as soon as the clock strikes midnight, the phones are ringing.

Among the prospects that North Carolina has reached out to on Wednesday is five-star shooting guard [autotag]Tre Johnson[/autotag]. The Texas native heard from North Carolina right away in the contact period as the Tar Heels continue to push to land some big prospects in that class.

Jake Weingarten of StockRisers reported that it’s been a busy start to the period for Johnson, hearing from a number of teams so far:

Hubert Davis and his staff currently do not have a commitment for the 2024 recruiting class but they do have several prospects on their recruiting board and some offers out.

Johnson is a prospect that fits UNC’s need of a wing player for the 2024 cycle, so making a run at him is a good idea for the program.

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound Johnson is ranked No. 3 overall, the No. 2 shooting guard, and the No. 1 player in the state of Texas per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
