Browns waive Julius Faulk, terminate Tre Harbison, make QB signing official

One of the 12 undrafted free agents signed is already gone, Harper’s signing is official and a running back clears waivers:

The NFL’s official transaction wire is quite busy this time of the year. The Cleveland Browns made three moves, officially, as a part of Monday’s wire.

First, Cleveland’s signing of QB Felix Harper official. Harper, who worked out with Deshaun Watson this summer, is the team’s fifth quarterback on their 90-man roster. He is a longshot with Watson, Jacoby Brissett, Josh Dobbs and, seemingly for now, Baker Mayfield on the depth chart ahead of him.

Second, the team waived DB Julius Faulk. Faulk was one of the team’s 12 undrafted free agents signed before rookie minicamp but was released shortly after the completion of camp this weekend. Roster space was discussed this morning on the Browns Wire Podcast.

Finally, RB Tre Harbison was terminated through the waiver system after no one claimed him off waivers. Harbison suffered a concussion in his first padded practice with the team in 2021 and didn’t see the field.

Running back Tre Harbison concussed in first padded practice

The first day of padded practice led to a player going down. In an update, Harbison has a concussion but otherwise is fine.

The Cleveland Browns have had a few injury concerns throughout training camp so far. A majority of those have been of the minor variety allowing the team to play it safe with the players involved. Anthony Walker is the biggest name with the biggest concerning injury but he will avoid surgery but miss more than a week.

All of those injuries came before the team put the pads on and started hitting. In the Browns first padded practice, running back Tre Harbison was carted off the field after a hard hit.

Harbison is in competition with a variety of backs to make the team, or practice squad, behind Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Harbison is an undrafted rookie who played his final college year at Charlotte after three at Northern Illinois.

A day later, head coach Kevin Stefanski noted that the rookie back suffered a concussion but is doing well otherwise:

With padded practices and hitting just starting and bound to ramp up, Cleveland hopes to minimize major injuries in preparation for a season full of Super Bowl hopes. Harbison’s hopes of making even the practice squad roster could take a hit depending on how long he is out.

Browns add 5 undrafted free agents including DT Marvin Wilson

Browns add 5 undrafted free agents including DT Marvin Wilson

The Cleveland Browns have officially added five undrafted free agent rookies to the roster.

The quintet:

  • RB Tre Harbison – Charlotte
  • DE Romeo McKnight – Charlotte
  • CB Emmanuel Rugamba – Miami (Ohio)
  • CB Kiondre Thomas – Kansas State
  • DT Marvin Wilson – Florida State

Wilson is the most prominent of the new additions. A one-time fixture in the first round of future mock drafts, injuries and an overall decline in play pushed the Seminoles standout off draft boards. The Browns won a bidding war for his services.

Both cornerbacks, Rugamba and Thomas, are transfers from Big Ten programs. Harbison and McKnight were teammates for the 49ers program that has produced some other Browns players lately, notably Larry Ogunjobi.

The new UDFAs and the addition of DT Malik McDowell push the Browns roster to 89. That leaves just one opening on the 90-man roster.
