Former Duke basketball player Trajan Langdon chosen for executive role with the Detroit Pistons

Trajan Langdon, who played for the Blue Devils from 1995-99, will be Detroit’s President of Basketball Operations after a five-year stint as the New Orleans Pelicans’ GM.

Former Duke basketball star Trajan Langdon will reportedly take a job as the President of Basketball Operations for the Detroit Pistons, according to a Thursday night report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Langdon had spent the past five years as the general manager of the New Orleans Pelicans, and he previously worked as the assistant general manager of the Brooklyn Nets.

The former Blue Devil played four seasons under legendary head coach Mike Krzyzewski. He started 24 games as a freshman in 1994-95, averaging 11.3 points per game and improving that total in each following season. After a career-high 2.1 assists per game as a sophomore, he set personal bests with 17.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in his senior season.

He reached the Elite Eight as a junior in 1998 before losing to the Connecticut Huskies in the national championship game as a senior. He scored at least 23 points in three of Duke’s final four games during that 1999 run, including 25 points against the Huskies and a double-double in the Sweet 16 against Missouri State.

He finished his Duke career with 136 games played, 14.5 points per game, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.

Langdon will now be in charge of overseeing the rebuild of the Pistons, who finished 2023-24 with a 14-68 record, the worst in the NBA.

Larry Nance Jr. joking about keeping expectations reasonable for when he makes his #Pelicans debut: “I feel great, but obviously there is going to be some rust to shake off. I’ve been out for a little bit. I don’t expect to be like the 40th player this month to drop 50 (points).” – 3:17 PM

Larry Nance Jr. on a step he needs to happen to get fully comfortable in Josh Hart’s old home (the former teammates swapped places in NOLA/Portland): “It’s getting cozy. He’s still got to get all of his crap out. He still has all of his Villanova stuff I can’t stand to look at.” – 3:14 PM

Here’s Part 2 of my talk with @John Hollinger where we get into:
— Zion Williamson (great timing!)
— How does Jose Alvarado’s emergence affect Devonte’ Graham/Kira Lewis?
— Where do Jaxson Hayes and Larry Nance Jr fit once Zion comes back?

Trajan Langdon to represent Pelicans at 2020 NBA Draft Lottery

In search of good luck for a second year running in the draft lottery, the New Orleans Pelicans will have general manager Trajan Langdon represent the franchise at Thursday’s 2020 NBA Draft Lottery.

In search of good luck for a second year running in the draft lottery, the New Orleans Pelicans will have general manager Trajan Langdon represent the franchise at Thursday’s 2020 NBA Draft Lottery.

Last season, then-head coach Alvin Gentry represented the franchise as they jumped up to the top pick in the draft to eventually draft Zion Williamson. While the stakes aren’t nearly as high this year, there is never a bad time to secure a No. 1 or even top-four pick.

The Pelicans will enter the draft lottery with just a 1.2% chance of moving up to the No. 1 pick. Their odds of making the top four are slightly better at 5.7%.

Notably people joining Langdon virtually as representatives for their respective teams will be Steph Curry for Golden State, D’Angelo Russell for the Timberwolves, De’Aaron Fox for the Kings and Leon Rose for the Knicks.

The draft lottery is set to start at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, will last for 30 minutes and will include an interview with LaMelo Ball.
