The Chicago Bulls’ most important decision at the trade deadline? Picking a direction, per one analyst

“Doing nothing, as the Bulls did in each of the past two trade deadlines, is unacceptable,” writes The Athletic.

Whatever the Chicago Bulls decide to do at the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline, they should do it with a comprehensive plan for the future direction of the franchise according to The Athletic’s Darnell Mayberry. “The Bulls must operate at this trade deadline with all eyes on the offseason,” writes the Athletic reporter.

“DeMar DeRozan is an impending free agent. Patrick Williams is set to be an unrestricted free agent” he adds, hinting at the needs of a Chicago roster that doesn’t seem to have a direction in mind. “If the plan is to re-sign both in the name of continuity, efforts must be made now to retool the roster.”

“If the goal is to go in a different direction and perhaps rebuild, again, this is the time to act,” suggests Mayberry, and he is not wrong. The treadmill of mediocrity awaits teams who hesitate, and Chicago has already spent a fair amount of this and last season on it.

“Doing nothing, as the Bulls did in each of the past two trade deadlines, is unacceptable,” writes the Athletic author, and those are words the team’s front office ought to take to heart.

Seahawks trade for Mayfield, select offensive lineman in latest mock draft

In one of the latest NFL mock drafts, the Seattle Seahawks trade for QB Baker Mayfield and select tackle Ikem Ekwonu at No. 9 overall.

After re-signing Geno Smith to the roster this week, the Seattle Seahawks are likely not actively looking for another quarterback to add to the mix ahead of the NFL draft. But that hasn’t stopped some from speculating that the team could still be interested in Browns’ signal-caller, Baker Mayfield.

In fact, one recent mock draft has the Seahawks trading for Mayfield and using their No. 9 overall selection to pick offensive lineman Ikem Ekwonu out of NC State in the first round.

“With the Seahawks acquiring Baker Mayfield from the Browns, they address their next biggest need: offensive tackle,” writes The draft board unfolds perfectly for Seattle, which gladly selects what could be the best offensive lineman in this class in Ekwonu.”

The Browns undoubtedly need to find Mayfield a new home after trading for and signing Deshaun Watson to a mega-deal but may be running out of options to get him dealt. With Smith back in Seattle, the Seahawks could very well sit on their heels and wait to see if he is Baker is eventually released, instead.
