4-star Georgia football WR target makes commitment

Four-star Georgia football wide receiver target Arian Smith picks the Dawgs

Four-star wide receiver target Arian Smith has officially committed to the Georgia Bulldogs.

The No. 72 overall player ranked No. 13 in the state of Florida per 247 Sports, Smith chose Georgia over Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma, Auburn and Clemson.

Though the Dawgs were thought to be the favorites in landing Smith after a visit to the Sunshine State last week and an official to Athens over the weekend, this is still a huge sigh of relief.

The Bulldogs pick up some much-needed speed at wide receiver, after losing the talented Isaiah McKenzie in 2016 and Mecole Hardman in 2018 to the NFL Draft.

Oh yeah, this goes without mentioning that Smith was on the 4×100 track team that broke U20 world records for Team USA over the summer with Georgia track signee Matthew Boling.

Welcome back from a football bye weekend for the Tennessee Volunteers. It was not all quiet the past few days, as the men’s basketball team triumphed over Washington on Saturday night, keeping their record perfect at 3-0. As for other news, the women’s volleyball team has announced some signings and the Lady Vols track and field team scored their best regional finish in a decade.

Lady Vols volleyball signs three

Women’s volleyball coach Eve Rackham announced the signing of three recruits for the 2020 class on Friday.

The trio of prospects — Jasmine Brooks, Allie Holland and Kya Moore — are all top-150 players, according to PrepVolleyball.com. Coach Rackham had the following to say about the newest members of the Vols family.

“We are excited about our newest additions to the Lady Vol Volleyball family. Each of these young women are talented in their position and will add great depth to our 2020 roster. Not only are they outstanding athletes, but they are also high-level students, active in their communities and will represent our program with class. I am particularly excited about the work ethic and positivity they will bring to our culture.”

The three prospects promise to bolster the volleyball program and will very likely debut in 2020.

It is finally Friday, and a slow one at that, as the Tennessee Volunteers football team head into a bye weekend before embarking to Columbia, Mo. to face the Missouri Tigers. In the meantime, the Lady Vols basketball team trounced Tennessee State last night, while the men gear up to take on the No. 20-ranked Washington Huskies on Saturday. But Tennessee athletics is more than just the major sports, and the others are the focus of today’s UT News.

Men’s golf team signs two

Tennessee men’s golf coach Brennan Webb announced the signing of two players to the team on Thursday.

Jackson Skeen, a Jonesboro, Tenn. native, is a top-150 ranked player in the 2020 class according to Junior Golf Scoreboard. He had a successful amateur career so far, including the 2018 TSSAA Class AAA Individual Championship as well as All-State honors in 2016 and 2018.

“Jackson (Skeen) has had a very successful career competing at the highest levels of junior golf and we are thrilled to add another Tennessee junior golfer to our roster,” Coach Webb said.

George Saunders comes from across the pond in Southampton, England, arriving in Knoxville after back-to-back top-20 finishes at the English Men’s Amateur. His addition to the program follows a long lineage of Vol golfers who hail from the UK.

“George will bring a wealth of experience to our roster, which will be important as we will lose eight upperclassmen in the next two years,” Coach Webb said. “He has had a tremendous amount of success in amateur golf around the world, as well as college golf the last two years at Midland.”

The two are promising additions to a storied program and will get their chance to contribute next season.
