Where to play golf around Las Vegas: Golfweek’s Best 2023 public-access courses

Thanks to Golfweek’s Best rankings, we break out the top courses around Las Vegas.

Ready to make a break from the casinos or hectic pace of the Las Vegas Strip? If you’re looking for the top golf courses around Sin City, Golfweek’s Best has you covered.

If you’re willing to drive a bit, there are several courses in this region that appear on the Golfweek’s Best rankings of top public-access layouts in Nevada. All the courses listed below are within an hour’s drive of Harry Reid International Airport, which sits adjacent to the Strip. But it’s not as easy as pulling up our state-by-state rankings, which list Nevada courses that might be a considerable drive away.

For this exercise, we used Google Maps and punched in each course as of a regular Saturday morning to determine drive times. Keep in mind that traffic near Las Vegas, especially around the Strip, can be slow – take all these times with a grain of salt.

Included with this list is a general map of where to find all these courses. Each one on the list below is represented with a number on the map – keep scrolling to see the numbers.

Included with each course is its position in Nevada on the Golfweek’s Best public-access list. For any course that appears on our other popular rankings lists, those positions are included as well.

A little background: The hundreds of members of our course-ratings panel continually evaluate courses and rate them on 10 criteria on a points basis of 1 through 10. They also file a single, overall rating on each course. Those overall ratings are averaged to produce all our Golfweek’s Best course rankings.

The courses on this list allow public access in some fashion, be it standard daily green fees, through a resort or casino, or by staying at an affiliated hotel. If there’s a will, there’s a tee time – no membership required.

Wyatt Worthington II earns first APGA Tour win at TPC Las Vegas

Worthington earned $7,500 for the win.

Wyatt Worthington II earned his first APGA Tour victory Tuesday, holding off Marcus Byrd to win the APGA Las Vegas event at TPC Las Vegas.

Worthington, a PGA of America teaching professional who has competed in two PGA Championships, including last year at Southern Hills, shot 7-under 135 over 36 holes to beat Byrd by two shots. Worthington shot 7-under 64 in the first round, and an even-par 71 on Tuesday was enough to earn a two-shot victory.

Byrd carded rounds of 68-69 en route to his runner-up finish. Salvador Rocha Gomez was the only other golfer to finish under par. He carded a 1-under 141.

“It feels great and it’s also a relief,” Worthington said of his first APGA win. “It’s a notch on the belt against extremely tough APGA Tour competition. Now, I have to keep getting better and better.”

Worthington, from Reynoldsburg, Ohio, earned $7,500 for the win.

Next up for Worthington is the PGA Professional Championship April 30-May 3 in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico. The top 20 finishers of more than 300 players qualify for the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club from May 18-21.

The APGA Tour is back in action on April 30-May 2 with APGA Tour at PGA Golf Club in Port Saint Lucie, Florida.

Kamaiu Johnson wins APGA Tour stop at TPC Las Vegas for second year in a row

Kamaiu Johnson won in Las Vegas for the second year in a row and third time on the APGA Tour.

For Kamaiu Johnson, it was lucky number two in Las Vegas.

Johnson won the Advocates Professional Golf Association’s stop at TPC Las Vegas Tuesday for the second year in a row. It’s also his third win on the circuit.

The two-day, 36-hole event was cut to just a single day of competition after Monday’s first round was called off due to extreme winds that reached 60 MPH in parts of the city.

Johnson shot a 71 Tuesday, two shots ahead of Aaron Beverly, Joseph Hooks, and Willie Mack III.

The key moment for Johnson came on the 591-yard, par-5 15th hole, where he holed out for eagle from 133 yards.

“It bounced a couple of times and then rolled in,” Johnson added. “I saw it the whole way.”

Last week, Johnson and Mack made the trip to Augusta National for the Masters.

The APGA Tour’s next stop will be TPC Scottsdale for a 36-hole tournament Monday and Tuesday.
