Chelsea is coming off a 1-0 win over Everton in which it tripled its opponents’ expected goals. The home side lost F Romelu Lukaku this offseason, but did add Manchester City F Raheem Sterling.

Chelsea’s 30-year-old M Jorginho scored the lone goal in its opener. Having to keep pace with City, Chelsea will have a difficult challenge Sunday. It beat Tottenham all 4 times last season, twice in the EFL Cup.

As for the F Harry Kane-led Tottenham, it will also look to contend as one of the EPL’s more talented teams.

In addition to Kane, it is led by star winger Son Heung-min. Neither scored despite both getting 90 minutes in Tottenham’s season-opening 4-1 win over Southampton.

Man City and Chelsea have the 2 most complete rosters in the league. From the attacking to defense, Chelsea has skill all over the field, and at home against a team it beat all 4 times last season, it has great value.

Tottenham’s strong start to the season covered up Kane’s struggles as he had just 1 shot on target. Tottenham had success against both Liverpool and City last season, but Chelsea consistently had its number.

I expect a similar showing from the Blues in this battle. This will be a good indicator of where each team is as the new season doesn’t have a lot of matches under its belt.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 2.5 (-112).

Chelsea had the 3rd-best defense in the EPL last season, while Tottenham had the 4th best.

Both allowed 40 or fewer goals in 38 matches. Chelsea brought back its 3 key defenders and has arguably the best center defending mid in the world (M N’Golo Kanté).

Tottenham may have won 4-1 last week, but there were just 2.0 expected goals. I would expect the experience to rival the Tottenham playmaking.

Considering each team’s strength, I’d play UNDER 2.5 (-112) here. Also Tottenham didn’t score in any of the 4 matches against Chelsea last season as 3 of the 4 went Under this total.

D Reece James and M Ben Chilwell remain out for this game. While they play an impactful part of Chelsea’s game plan, the Blues will still have Romelu Lukaku atop their attack.

With a top-five defense in the EPL, they should be able to limit a Tottenham side that will be down a key attacker, Son Heung-Min. Five of Chelsea’s last six home matches ended in a draw.

Tottenham is undefeated in its last nine games.

Playing top-tier competition closely, a slate of games that include a 1-0 season-opening win over the EPL-leading Man City, the Hotspur have managed to keep big-time games winnable.

PASS on the money line. Tottenham has been playing well enough to not love Chelsea (-125).

Chelsea’s last four EPL matches — two against Brighton, one against Man City and the other against Liverpool — resulted in three draws and a loss. The Blues are the more talented side, but I wouldn’t back them at current odds.

The draw is my favorite bet on the money line as Tottenham is 1-1-1 against the EPL’s top three teams. The Hotspur lost to Chelsea 3-0 earlier in the season, so they’ll have that on their mind as well.

That said, I do like BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE? YES (-117). It’s hit in two of the last three games for Tottenham and three of the last four games for Chelsea.

I back both teams to get on the board over a money line value.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the UNDER 2.5 (-122).

I know it’s a small window for the 1-1 as it is the only way both my “bets” hit, but both teams have been too good defensively to allow 3 or 4 goals.

Tottenham has allowed 22 goals in 19 games. Chelsea, on the other hand, has allowed 18 goals in 23 games; however, Chelsea hasn’t played up to its level as of late which is why it has dropped from that top spot on the table.

I like both teams to have some success offensively, especially given the star power of Lukaku and F Harry Kane, but the defensive aptitude on both sides of the pitch will also be there.

Considering the forms both teams are in, I think a 1-1 draw is the most likely outcome.

Tottenham’s 1-0 takedown of Manchester City has been the most impressive win of any EPL side this season, despite Chelsea entering the match as favorites.

The Hotspur’s sole loss was a 3-0 defeat against Crystal Palace, with all goals being scored after a Tottenham red card in the 58th minute. The loss sent them down the table to No. 7.

Chelsea entered the weekend tied for the top spot with Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United. They’re coming off a 3-0 defeat of Aston Villa and drew Liverpool 1-1 prior to that. The Blues are a dangerous side with a true No. 9 in F Romelu Lukaku.

Chelsea 2, Tottenham 1

PASS on the money line.

Chelsea is the more talented side, especially with defensive specialists D César Azpilicueta and M Kante. However, on the road, this feels like a trap game.

Not discrediting Tottenham’s win over Man City, but that was their opponent’s first game with M Jack Grealish.

However, Tottenham has two of the most lethal attackers in the EPL with F Harry Kane and M Heung-min Son, both top goal scorers from a season ago. Son’s status for the game remains unconfirmed as he will be assessed prior to the match.

That’s why I’d bet BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE (-101).

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the OVER 2.5 (+110) as Lukaku and Kane are possibly the two best forwards in the EPL. With 3 goals, Lukaku is tied for the third-most goals in league action at the time of writing.

While Chelsea has given up just one goal on the season, the only other great attacking side it’s played is Liverpool. They allowed a goal there, and Liverpool had several opportunities for more.

If Tottenham doesn’t load the penalty box and play back as they did with Man City, expect a match that tops 2 goals.
