The Reds were made to sweat it out against the Spurs and Jose Mourinho’s injury-riddled team. Despite the close nature of the match, Liverpool still came out with full points thanks to a Roberto Firmino goal in the first half. Like Liverpool’s whole season so far, the team wasn’t dominant, but it got the job done. The result gives Liverpool 20 wins and one draw through 21 matches, a record that would look out of place in a video game.
It would take a near catastrophe for the Premier League title not to end up on Merseyside come spring. The only thing left to decide on is if this Liverpool side will be mentioned in the same breath as the 2003-04 Arsenal side that didn’t lose a game through the entire season. That infamous team only won 26 total matches that season, while drawing 12. Liverpool has a chance to blow the doors off that output at its current rate.
For Manchester United, it’s all about closing the gap on Chelsea for a spot in next season’s Champions League. A 4-0 win against Norwich City last time out was a positive building block for the team. However, the team has seen great performances already. Winning matches isn’t new for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team. It’s about the consistency and what happens after a good result. Going to Anfield won’t be easy, but if Manchester United can replicate its performance against Liverpool from earlier in the season and grab a point, it would be a huge moment.
