Vancouver Canucks at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Vancouver Canucks at Toronto Maple Leafs NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Vancouver Canucks (6-8-0) and Toronto Maple Leafs (8-2-1) play the second game of a two-game set at Scotiabank Arena with a 7 p.m. ET puck drop Saturday. Below, we analyze the Canucks-Maple Leafs NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Canucks at Maple Leafs: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 10:25 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Canucks +165 (bet $100 to win $165) | Maple Leafs -200 (bet $200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Canucks +1.5 (-165) | Maple Leafs -1.5 (+125)
  • Over/Under: 7 (O: +110 | U: -130)

Canucks at Maple Leafs: Projected starting goalies

Braden Holtby (3-3-0, .896 SV%, 3.63 GAA) vs. Frederik Andersen (6-2-1, .888 SV%, 3.01 GAA)

Holtby should get the starting nod after Thatcher Demko coughed up 7 goals in the front end of the double-dip in Toronto, as the Canucks lost 7-3 Thursday. Holtby yielded 6 goals in a road loss to the Montreal Canadiens, but he made 34 saves.

Andersen allowed three goals on just 19 shots as he cruised to the 7-3 win Thursday. He has won four of his past five outings, with the Leafs providing 22 total goals of support in the five-start span.

Canucks at Maple Leafs: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Maple Leafs 5, Canucks 3

Money line (ML)

The Maple Leafs (-200) won by a football score in the front end of this set. They’re a good bet to run it back and take the second installment, too.

However, this is just past my personal limit of -180 on a money line. Look to the spread instead, unless you toss this into a parlay. PASS.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The MAPLE LEAFS -1.5 (+125) are worth a look for the 2-goal margin of victory. They hit against the puck line in Thursday’s game, and they’re just too expensive on the money line.

Go lightly, as Toronto has won by 2 or more goals in just three of its eight victories. Vancouver has been beaten by 2 or more goals in each of its eight losses. So if you play against them, play the puck line for a better payout until they right the ship.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 7 (+110) is the play. Both Vancouver goaltenders have been coughing up huge goal totals, and the Leafs are providing Andersen with a lot of offense.

Toronto enters on a 4-0 Over run, and Vancouver is on a 3-0 streak while cashing the Over in eight of the past 11.

Vancouver Canucks at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Vancouver Canucks at Toronto Maple Leafs NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Vancouver Canucks (6-7-0) travel to meet the Toronto Maple Leafs (7-2-1) at Scotiabank Arena Thursday for a 7 p.m. ET puck drop. Below, we analyze the Canucks-Maple Leafs NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Canucks at Maple Leafs: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 5:31 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Canucks +160 (bet $100 to win $160) | Maple Leafs -190 (bet $190 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Canucks +1.5 (-160) | Maple Leafs -1.5 (+135)
  • Over/Under: 6.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Canucks at Maple Leafs: Projected starting goalies

Thatcher Demko (3-4-0, 3.34 GAA, .909 SV%) vs. Frederik Andersen (5-2-1, 3.01 GAA, .892 SV%)

Demko was roughed up for four goals on 32 shots in Tuesday’s 5-3 loss at Montreal against the red-hot Habs. That outing snapped a three-game run in which Demko allowed just one goal in each of the outings. It has been a roller coaster ride for the young netminder. He lost three in a row to start the season followed by three consecutive wins before Tuesday’s defeat.

Andersen has allowed three or more goals in each of his past three starts, but he won two of those outings with one overtime setback, as the offense generally backs him well. He is receiving 3.8 goals of offensive support across the past four starts.

Canucks at Maple Leafs: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Maple Leafs 6, Canucks 4

Money line (ML)

The Maple Leafs (-190) are just a touch over my personal limit of -180 for money line plays. However, if you were to toss Toronto into a several-team parlay, it’s not a terrible bet. PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

The MAPLE LEAFS -1.5 (+135) are worth a roll of the dice on the puck line. Both of these goalies can be tremendous or they can be absolutely awful with little in between. The Leafs should be able to get it done by at least two goals, but it might come down to an empty-netter to make the difference.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 6.5 (-120) is a high number, but it’s still worth the play. As mentioned, the Leafs tend to back Andersen with plenty of offensive support, and he will need it. The Canucks are averaging 3.4 goals per game, and allowing 3.7 goals per outing. The Leafs rank 10th in the NHL with 3.3 goals per outing, and they’re coughing up 2.9 goals per contest.

Look for plenty of fire wagon hockey in this one, with many odd-man chances. Hopefully the Scotiabank Arena scoreboard operator is limbered up.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Edmonton Oilers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Edmonton Oilers NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Toronto Maple Leafs (6-2-0) travel to meet the Edmonton Oilers (3-5-0) at Rogers Place Thursday for a 10 p.m. ET puck drop. Below, we analyze the Maple Leafs-Oilers NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Maple Leafs at Oilers: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 4:18 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Maple Leafs -130 (bet $130 to win $100) | Oilers +110 (bet $100 to win $110)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Maple Leafs -1.5 (+195) | Oilers +1.5 (-250)
  • Over/Under: 6.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Maple Leafs at Oilers: Projected starting goalies

Frederik Andersen (4-2-0, 2.84 GAA, .896 SV%) at Mikko Koskinen (3-5-0, 3.42 GAA, .900 SV%)

Andersen is expected to start this game, as backup G Jack Campbell is unavailable due to a lower-body injury. Second-string backup G Michael Hutchinson can’t be trusted, so look for the Ginger Dane to get his third start against the Oilers this season. Andersen allowed two Edmonton goals on 21 shots in a 3-1 loss Jan. 20 before rebounding with 30 saves in a 4-2 win over the Oilers Friday.

Koskiken was on the other end of the ice for those two games against the Leafs. He yielded just one goal on 26 shots in the 3-1 win, and allowed only three goals on 28 shots in the 4-2 loss. Look for Koskinen to start for this third installment Thursday.

Maple Leafs at Oilers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Maple Leafs 4, Oilers 2

Money line (ML)

The MAPLE LEAFS (-130) are the play in Game 3 between these teams. The Leafs have won each of their past four trips to Rogers Place, and they have won 19 of their previous 26 battles against the Oilers. The road team has also cashed in four of the past five meetings. If that doesn’t convince you, the favorite has hit in 16 of the past 21 meetings, too.

Against the spread (ATS)

The MAPLE LEAFS -1.5 (+195) are worth a small-unit play as you can nearly double up if they win by two goals. It might take an empty-netter at the end as it won’t be easy, but the winner in the first two games of this series also hit the puck line. While the Leafs have covered the puck line in just two of six games overall, they’re a good value at this price.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 6.5 (-105) is the play as the Under is 4-1-1 in the past six games overall for the Leafs. Edmonton was outscored 9-8 in splitting two games Sunday and Tuesday with the Winnipeg Jets in the last two games, but the Over hit in each. However, the Under is 3-2-1 in the past six for the Oilers. In this head-to-head series, the Under is 12-5-4 in the past 21 in Edmonton, and 3-1-1 in the past five meetings overall.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Ottawa Senators odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Ottawa Senators NHL betting odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Ottawa Senators begin their 2021 NHL season Friday against the rival Toronto Maple Leafs (1-0-0) at Canadian Tire Centre. Puck drop will be at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Maple Leafs-Senators NHL betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Maple Leafs opened their season with a 5-4 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens on home ice Wednesday.

Maple Leafs at Senators: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:39 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Maple Leafs -200 (bet $200 to win $100) | Senators +175 (bet $100 to win $175)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Maple Leafs -1.5 (+120) | Senators +1.5 (-145)
  • Over/Under: 6.5 (O: -135 | U: +110)

Maple Leafs at Senators: Projected starting goalies

Frederik Andersen (1-0-0, .875 SV%, 3.79 GAA) vs. Matt Murray (2019-20 stats: 20-11-5, .899 SV%, 2.87 GAA)

Andersen stopped 28 of 32 shots in Wednesday’s season-opening win in a game filled with sloppy turnovers and defensive mistakes by both teams. He played the Senators just once last season and allowed 3 goals on 26 shots but got the win.

Murray signed a 4-year, $25-million contract with the Sens this offseason after his rights were acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins. He’s a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Penguins but declined over the past several seasons.

Maple Leafs at Senators: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Senators 5, Maple Leads 3

Money line (ML)

The SENATORS (+175) offer plenty of value while matched up against one of the top public betting favorites in the NHL. Toronto snuck out the 5-4 win in its season-opener Wednesday but it took overtime and Montreal led for much of regulation.

Ottawa is vastly improved from the team that went a combined 54-81-18 over the past two seasons. The Leafs are still the superior team at both ends of the ice and in net, but they’re still too mistake-prone to trust while laying -200 in this young season.

Against the spread (ATS)

The SENATORS +1.5 (-145) can also be backed on the puck line with 1 goal of insurance in the event of a loss. They’re much more talented up front than they’ve been the last several seasons and will be able to hang with Toronto’s elite forwards and capitalize on early-season miscues.

The Sens last played March 11 of last season and the roster is hardly recognizable from the one that last took the ice in a competitive game. They’ll be an early surprise this season and it’s likely to take the oddsmakers a while to adjust the odds to their expectations.

Over/Under (O/U)

Hammer the OVER 6.5 (-135), even though it’s the side of the line being heavily juiced. The Maple Leafs played to a total of 9 goals against the Canadiens Wednesday and the Senators’ new-look roster is sure to take some time to gel with no true preseason play.

Expect plenty of mistakes and an exciting, high-scoring game as a result. Sorry, goalies.

Montreal Canadiens at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Montreal Canadiens at Toronto Maple Leafs NHL betting odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs open the 2020-21 NHL regular season against each other Wednesday for a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Below, we analyze the Canadiens-Maple Leafs NHL betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Canadiens at Maple Leafs: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 5:52 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Canadiens +120 (bet $100 to win $120) | Maple Leafs -145 (bet $145 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Canadiens +1.5 (-225) | Maple Leafs -1.5 (+180)
  • Over/Under: 6.5 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Canadiens at Maple Leafs: Projected starting goalies

Carey Price (27-25-6, .909 SV%, 2.79 GAA) at Frederik Andersen (29-13-7, .909 SV%, 2.85 GAA)

Price is expected to be the starting backstop for the opener, and that’s bad news for the Leafs. Last season he posted a 3-0-0 record with a 2.58 GAA and .912 SV% in three starts against Toronto. Price is expected to see more rest this season after the team inked veteran G Jake Allen to serve as his understudy this season.

Andersen, who is entering the final year of his contract with the Maple Leafs, is hopeful of getting off to a good start. The 31-year Danish backstop was actually better on the road last season than at home, going 13-7-6 with a 3.03 GAA and .904 SV% in 28 starts at Scotiabank Arena. He actually didn’t face the Habs last season after going 3-0-1 with a 3.14 GAA and .918 SV% against them in 2018-19, and 3-0-0 with a 1.66 GAA and .950 SV% in 2017-18. He hasn’t lost to the Habs over his past seven starts since an overtime loss at home on Feb. 25, 2017.

Canadiens at Maple Leafs: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Maple Leafs 4, Canadiens 3

Money line (ML)

Despite Price’s recent success against the them in 2019-20, the MAPLE LEAFS (-145) are still the play at home, and you won’t have to munch a lot of chalk. Yes, Montreal has won four in a row in this series, but it has won just once in the past five trips to Toronto, and the favorite is 19-7 across the past 26 meetings with the home side coming out ahead in four of the previous five battles.

Against the spread (ATS)

I am not confident enough to bet puck lines right off the bat to begin a new season. Given Montreal’s success against Toronto last season, you shouldn’t be, either. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (+100) is rather pricey. It will be interesting to see how both of the teams respond playing inside a barren 19,800-seat arena which is usually packed to the gills for this heated Canadian rival game. These teams got a taste of playing meaningful games with no fans in the bubble last summer, but it’s still something that is hard to get used to without that energy to feed off. Even so, we should see plenty of fireworks on the ice as the Over has cashed in five of the previous six meetings.
