Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl odds sky-rocket after Rob Gronkowski trade

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are cruising up the oddsmakers board with the addition of Rob Gronkowski.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers — or is it now the Tompa Bay Patriots South? — did it again, significantly changing their odds of being in Super Bowl LV Tuesday with the trade for TE Rob Gronkowski.

Gronk, who was out of the NFL last season after retiring from the New England Patriots, said he wanted back and he wanted a trade to the Buccaneers to join his good friend Tom Brady. Fitting for the current Twilight Zone-like state of the world, New England head coach Bill Belichick actually allowed it to happen. Then again, only Belichick could land a fourth-round NFL Draft pick for a retired player.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl LV odds

And just like that, Brady + Gronk = Tampa Bay becomes a top-four team in the eyes of the BetMGM oddsmakers of winning the 2021 Super Bowl LV next January.

BetMGM has shortened the Bucs odds to +900, down from +1600. They were +5500 before the Brady acquisition! That’s some big offseason movement from a team rarely associated with being Super Bowl contenders.

New to sports betting? +900 represents 9/1 fractional odds, implying the Buccaneers have a 10.0% chance of winning Super Bowl LV. A $100 wager at +900 returns a profit of $900 — at the original +5500 odds, a $100 wager would return a profit of $5,500 should the Bucs go on to win this season’s championship.

You just know there are some of those +5500 tickets floating out there with the owners of them doing a little happy dance today.

Brady’s Buccaneers only trail the Kansas City Chiefs (+650) and Baltimore Ravens (+700) in the favorites to win Super Bowl LV department; the Bucs are tied with the San Francisco 49ers.

Gronk has one year remaining on his $10 million contract. In nine seasons with the Pats, he had 521 receptions for 7,861 yards and 79 receiving touchdowns. He now joins WRs Mike Evans and Chris Godwin to form a very nice trio of weapons for Brady to play catch with on Sundays… but will they be doing it on Super Bowl Sunday?

Where will Tom Brady play in 2020? NFL futures odds, picks and best bets

Analyzing the NFL futures odds for QB Tom Brady’s team for the 2020 season, with picks, tips and best bets.

The entire sports world is eagerly awaiting the most important free agency decision since LeBron James took his talents to South Beach, as future Hall of Fame QB Tom Brady is set to become a free agent for the first time in his illustrious career. BetMGM has betting odds up for Brady’s next team, and we break down those odds with picks for where Brady will be playing in the 2020 NFL season.

Tom Brady’s next team: Patriots (-125) vs. Field (+105)

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Monday, March 2 at 12:30 p.m. ET.

While the closest thing to an official announcement from Brady on whether or not he’ll play in 2020 was a Super Bowl LIV commercial for Hulu, he’s widely expected to be suiting up (somewhere) for a 21st season in the NFL. The question remains whether it will be with the New England Patriots, the only team for which he has played since being drafted 199th overall in 2000, or with someone else.

BetMGM has the Pats (-125) favored over the field (+105), which groups the other 31 NFL teams together. Should Brady sign anywhere but New England after free agency opens at 4 p.m. ET March 18, a $10 bet on the field would return a profit of $10.50. The same wager on Brady re-upping with the Pats would fetch a profit of $8.

Brady played many of the last 20 seasons while giving the Pats a significant “hometown discount”. This helped the three-time MVP guide the Pats to six Super Bowl titles. Now, with suitors lined up and reportedly willing to offer as much as $60 million on a two year deal for the 42-year-old, Brady may switch allegiances and cash in on all of his career success.

Having embodied the “Patriot Way” throughout his career it’s odd for Brady to have remained so coy if he were to simply remain in New England for 2020. The bet to make is on the FIELD (+105).

Tom Brady’s next team

The Tennessee Titans (+400) are the top favorites to sign Brady after beating the Pats in the AFC Wild Card Round of the 2019 postseason. Brady’s last play in that game, and potentially his last with the Pats, was a pick-six. Titans QB and 2019 Comeback Player of the Year Ryan Tannehill is also set to hit free agency. Former linebacker and teammate Mike Vrabel is the head coach of the Titans.

The Las Vegas Raiders (+500) are the second favorite to sign Brady, as they look to make another splash amid their relocation to Sin City. The Los Angeles Chargers (+800) round out the top three.

The value starts to rise with the Indianapolis Colts (+1000) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+1500). The Colts are projected to enter the 2020 league year with over $86 million in cap space, giving them more than enough room to not only sign Brady but to also trade for Patriots WR Julian Edelman to help lure Brady to his longtime rival.

Bucs head coach Bruce Arians has long had an affinity for veteran QBs (Kurt Warner, Carson Palmer) and Tampa Bay seems more than ready to move on from Jameis Winston. The Bucs have more cap space than all but the Colts and Miami Dolphins, and are worth a bet for a 15-1 return on your investment.
