Tom Brady’s last game in New Orleans was a pure masterpiece

Take a look at highlights from the Patriots’ win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 2 of the 2017 season.

Tom Brady signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers isn’t just great for Bucs fans — it’s great for NFL fans everywhere. Brady’s arrival to the NFC South means we’ll get two divisional games next year between the six-time Super Bowl champion and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

Brees and the Saints have been king’s of the south the past few years, a distinction Brady and the Bucs will seek to take. Brady holds a 2-1 career record against a Brees-led Saints team, with his last victory coming back in Week 2 of the 2017 season, when he and the New England Patriots won in the Superdome 36-20.

Brady’s performance in that game was nothing short of a masterpiece. He completed 30-for-39 passes for 447 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. It still ranks as the third-most passing yards Brady has ever thrown in a single game, which bodes well for the Bucs next season.

Here’s a highlight reel of that game for you to enjoy on Throwback Thursday.

Tom Brady will face 5 QBs in 2020 who have played in a Super Bowl

Take a look at some of the great quarterbacks Tom Brady and the Buccaneers will face at home during the 2020 season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers enter the 2020 season as legitimate Super Bowl contenders after landing the biggest fish in free agency, quarterback Tom Brady. The six-time Super Bowl champ’s arrival to the NFC South makes it the most exciting division in the NFL without question.

But, it’s not just the prospect of Brady facing off against NFC South foes that should have fans excited. In fact, Brady and the Bucs will play five home games next season against quarterbacks who have played in a Super Bowl, with three of them being named Super Bowl MVP.

Let’s take a look at each quarterback and how they fared in the big game.

Flashback Friday: Tom Brady leads Patriots to victory over the Bucs

Watch new Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady lead his old team, the Patriots, to victory over his new team back in 2017.

Tom Brady is a Tampa Bay Buccaneer now, meaning the six-time Super Bowl champion will have a chance at becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to play a Super Bowl in his own stadium, as Super Bowl LV will be at Raymond James Stadium next year.

But Brady is no stranger to RJ Stadium, as he and the New England Patriots visited the Bucs for a Thursday night showdown back in Week 5 of the 2017 season. The Pats walked away with a 19-14 victory.

Take a look now at some of the highlights from that game. It’s crazy to watch Brady play and think that in a few short years he’d be calling that stadium his new home.

Chris Godwin shows off his new skill on Instagram

Bucs WR Chris Godwin took to his Instagram recently to show fans a new skill he is working on this offseason.

Chris Godwin had a career year in 2019, posting his best season as a pro and earning his first Pro Bowl selection. The third-year receiver out of Penn State finished the season with 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns in just 14 games.

Now that six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady is officially the Bucs’ new quarterback, Godwin could easily see his numbers improve next season, a scary thought for opponents, but an exciting one for fantasy owners.

While Godwin may or may not be surrendering his No. 12 jersey to the Golden Boy, he is taking some time this offseason to practice a new skill, and he took to Instagram recently to share it with fans.

Take a look.

Buccaneers earn top marks in USA TODAY’s NFL free agency grades

See what Nate Davis of USA TODAY thinks of the new-look Tampa Bay Buccaneers after they made a big splash in free agency.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their fans have been stuck in the doldrums for over a decade, longing for a return to the glory days when their stifling defense made them a perennial contender for a Super Bowl championship.

But now that quarterback Tom Brady has boarded the ship, the winds of fortune are beginning to change for the Bucs. Couple the addition of Brady with the re-signing of Ndamukong Suh and Jason Pierre-Paul, as well as the tagging of Shaq Barrett, and Tampa Bay looks like a legitimate threat to the rest of the league.

Nate Davis of USA TODAY has loved what he’s seen so far from the Buccaneers in free agency, which is why he awarded them an A- in his NFL free agency grades.

Per Davis:

“The stunning import of Brady energizes the previously dormant franchise and a fan base now realistically floating Super Bowl aspirations. A defense that retained DL Ndamukong Suh and pass rushers Jason Pierre-Paul and franchise-tagged sack king Shaq Barrett will benefit greatly simply because TB12 won’t compromise it the way his predecessor, turnover machine Jameis Winston, did. And GM Jason Licht still has about $20 million to potentially patch holes at running back, defensive back and offensive tackle.”

Jameis Winston doesn’t need to wear sunglasses after all the shade Davis just threw his way. It may sound harsh, but the numbers don’t lie. Winston’s 30 interceptions last year were a detriment to the team’s success, despite the fact that Tampa Bay finished tied for third in scoring (28.6 points per game). A 7-9 finish on the year made it just one winning season in five for Winston, which likely made the Bucs’ decision to move on from him a little easier.

While Brady prepares to take over one of the league’s best offenses, Winston continues searching for a home. Hopefully, he’ll get another chance to prove himself in the not too distant future.

There’s a reason some Bucs players were quiet on social media after the Brady signing

Find out why Tampa Bay Buccaneers players were noticeably quiet on social media following the news of the Tom Brady signing.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans are celebrating the signing of quarterback Tom Brady, as the six-time Super Bowl champion will now call Raymond James Stadium his home.

But with the signing of Brady comes the definitive end to the Jameis Winston era. The 2015 number one overall pick failed to develop into the franchise quarterback the Buccaneers had hoped for when they handed over the keys to the franchise to the former Heisman Trophy winner. Inconsistent play on the field, coupled with trouble off of it, led to just one winning season out of five with zero playoff appearances. Winston now hits the open market for the first time in his career.

And, if you wondered at all why Bucs players weren’t celebrating on social media after the Brady news broke, you can thank their love and respect for Winston for that. According to Jenna Laine of ESPN, several players were “refraining from reacting to the Brady signing out of respect for Winston, who was a valued presence in their locker room.”

Per center Ryan Jensen:

“Battling with Jameis the last two years has been some of the most fun I’ve had playing football. Not only did we become teammates but also good friends over the last two years. This business is always tough and just that — a business. I’m excited to see where Jameis lands. With that, I’m excited to go to battle with Tom and excited to see what he will bring to the organization.”

Remember, too, that Winston was a part of a group of Bucs players who went to former Bucs DT Gerald McCoy’s son’s Senior Night back in the fall when McCoy was in Carolina with the Panthers. Teammates loved Winston, and even though he may not be a part of the Bucs locker room anymore, he’ll still be a part of their lives.

History shows that Tom Brady plus the Bucs’ playoff drought could be a recipe for a Super Bowl win

See why history shows that the addition of Tom Brady to the Buccaneers could be a recipe for a Super Bowl win.

Tom Brady is officially a Tampa Bay Buccaneer after (finally) signing his contract today. Now that the six-time Super Bowl champion is set to join the Bucs, fans can finally start looking towards the 2020 regular season, and potentially, the postseason.

That may seem like a hard concept to grasp for some, especially when you consider they Bucs haven’t been to the postseason since 2007 and haven’t won a playoff game since their Super Bowl XXXVII victory following the 2002 season. A 7-9 finish to the 2019 season ensured the Bucs extended their playoff drought to 12-straight seasons. But, as the NFL’s research department pointed out, that drought plus the addition of Brady could be a recipe for a Super Bowl win.

Take a look.

If Brady can guide the Bucs back to the postseason in 2020, that alone would be a huge step forward for the franchise and validate the Brady signing. Plus, Super Bowl LV is in Tampa Bay next year. I’m sure Brady would love nothing more than to be the first quarterback ever to play a Super Bowl in his home stadium.

CBS Sports’ latest mock draft has the Bucs finding protection for Tom Brady

See which offensive tackle Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports thinks the Buccaneers will select in the first round to protect Tom Brady.

With news that quarterback Tom Brady is expected to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the question now becomes how do the Bucs protect him? The offensive line was a big issue last season, especially on the right side. Given that Brady will be 43 years old by the time next season starts, it’s imperative Tampa Bay keeps him upright.

Fortunately, the NFL draft is next month, and with the Bucs holding the 14th pick, they have a chance to find a solid offensive tackle to help protect Brady. Chris Trapasso over at CBS Sports put together his latest 2020 mock draft yesterday, and thinks Tampa Bay will use their first-round pick on Alabama OT Jedrick Wills Jr.

Per Trapasso:

“Now with Tom Brady in the mix, the Buccaneers have to prioritize strengthening the offensive line, and Wills is a plug-and-play right tackle.”

While there’s no such thing as a “sure thing” when it comes to the draft, it seems likely that OT will be the route the Bucs go in round one. Now that free agency has gotten underway, we know the Bucs will be bringing back both Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul next season, so earlier mock drafts suggesting the Bucs would take LSU edge K’Lavon Chaisson or DT Javon Kinlaw of South Carolina seem less likely now, especially with the expected signing of Brady.

Protect the Golden Boy at all costs.

Gregg Rosenthal thinks the Patriots would prefer Cam Newton over Jameis Winston

See why Gregg Rosenthal believes the New England Patriots would be more willing to roll the dice on Cam Newton than Jameis Winston.

The NFL world is still processing the news that Tom Brady is expected to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after officially ending his 20-year run with the New England Patriots.

The six-time Super Bowl champion will look to return the Bucs to the postseason for the first time since 2007, and his arrival will reignite a Bucs fan base ready for a return to the glory days.

But, let’s not forget that Brady’s arrival marks the end of Jameis Winston’s tenure with the Bucs. The former No. 1 overall pick is still without a home, and now that Teddy Bridgewater will be joining the Carolina Panthers, it seems that Cam Newton is also a quarterback lost in the wind.

So, could either one of them end up in New England to replace the Golden Boy? Gregg Rosenthal over at NFL.com pondered the Patriots’ quarterback situation, and suggested that if it came down to it, Newton may be the choice over Winston.

Per Rosenthal:

“The Patriots are perhaps the only team left without an expected starter, although second-year pro Jarrett Stidham is likely a bigger factor in Bill Belichick’s head than that of the public at large. Still, Belichick loves value. It would be a very Patriots-like move to pick up a former No. 1 overall draft pick at quarterback at a deep discount price. My instinct says that Josh McDaniels would rather come up with a new offense for Cam than trust Winston to avoid mistakes, but Belichick has options.”

It certainly doesn’t help Winston’s case that he threw for 30 interceptions in a contract year. With Bruce Arians throwing in the towel on the former Heisman Trophy winner, it might be hard for Winston to convince another franchise to hand over the reigns of their offense to him.

In all likelihood, Winston may have to settle for a backup role. But, as several media members have suggested, including Peter King of NBC Sports, that might not be such a bad thing if Winston were to wind up with an organization like the Pittsburgh Steelers. Sitting for a year and learning behind an experienced quarterback could pay dividends in the long run.

Unfortunately, for Winston, he won’t get the chance to sit behind Brady in Tampa Bay.

It’s now official: Tom Brady is ending his 20-year career with the New England Patriots, the only team he has ever played for, opening the door for him to come to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (hopefully).

FOREVER A PATRIOT

A post shared by Tom Brady (@tombrady) on

With the Patriots out, it seems the Los Angeles Chargers and Buccaneers are the most likely destination for the Golden Boy.

The Bucs have a lot to offer Brady, from a loaded offense featuring Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and O.J. Howard, coupled with a strong defense that will have both Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul back next season.

If Brady does decide to make Tampa Bay his next home, the question will be, will Chris Godwin surrender that infamous No. 12 jersey?
