Ohio at Toledo odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Ohio at Toledo odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Ohio Bobcats (7-3, 5-1 MAC) and Toledo Rockets (7-3, 4-2) meet Wednesday. Kickoff from the Glass Bowl is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Ohio vs. Toledo odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Rockets look to maintain their dominance against the Bobcats. Toledo is 16-1 all-time at the Glass Bowl against Ohio. However, that lone loss came in the most recent meeting in Toledo, a 31-26 win by the Bobcats as a 15-point underdog in 2016.

The most recent battle in this series came in the 2022 MAC Championship Game, a 17-7 win by Toledo as a 3-point favorite as the Under (60.5) cashed.

Ohio has won and covered 3 in a row, scoring 35 or more points in each outing. The Under has cashed in the past 2, however, as Ohio allowed just 10 points, including a 41-0 shutout at the Kent State Golden Flashes on Nov. 6 as a 20.5-point favorite.

Toledo posted a 37-10 win over the Central Michigan Chippewas as a 14.5-point favorite as the Under (52) connected last time out on Nov. 12. The Rockets have scored 26 or more points in 3 in a row, while the Over has cashed at a 4-2 clip in the past 6 outings.

Ohio at Toledo picks and predictions

Prediction

Ohio 27, Toledo 24

Moneyline

OHIO (+100) is worth a play at even-money on the road against Toledo (-120) in this titanic matchup. With a win over the Rockets, and a victory next week against Ball State, the Bobcats could earn a trip to the MAC title game. It controls its own destiny, but obviously this is the most difficult game.

The Glass Bowl has been a house of horrors for Ohio, but they won in the most recent meeting, although that was 8 years ago. While trends are interesting, it isn’t hugely important when the starting QB Parker Navarro was 15 years old and playing high school football at Desert Vista High School in Tempe, Ariz.

Against the spread

Playing Ohio +1.5 (-108) rather than the moneyline makes absolutely no sense unless you’re convinced Toledo -1.5 (-110) is going to win, but only by a single point. Playing the ML is much more economical.

PASS.

Over/Under

OVER 44.5 (-110) is a strong play in this battle.

While, yes, the Bobcats have allowed just 26 points in the past 3 games, that’s against teams with a combined record of 11-20. This will easily be Ohio’s biggest test since facing Miami (Ohio) Oct. 19 in Oxford when it allowed 30 points.

The Rockets have a powerful offense, going for 29.9 PPG, including 249.2 passing yards per game, and the defense has been tagged for 221.6 yards per game through the air and 21.1 PPG.

This won’t be a track meet, but this should at least be into the 50’s.

Lock it in with Alex: Bet this side in Toledo-Mississippi State

SportsbookWire.com’s Alex White likes a side in Saturday’s football game between the Toledo Rockets and Mississippi State Bulldogs.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

SportsbookWire.com’s Alex White says, “Let’s keep it going,” after cashing in on a road dog last week when Michigan State won at Maryland outright.

This Saturday, she sees an opportunity to make some money on a MAC-SEC matchup from Starkville when the Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-1) host the Toledo Rockets (2-0) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPNU).

The Bulldogs are favored by 10.5 points, per BetMGM Sportsbook as of Friday, 3:18 a.m. ET — the line moved down from 11.5.

Listen below to why Alex is locking in this best bet.

Make sure to catch Alex on Sports By the Book Saturday 11 a.m.-noon ET, and Sunday through Wednesday noon-1 p.m. ET, and on Punch Lines every Monday and Wednesday 3 p.m.-4 p.m. ET — live from the South Point Sportsbook in Las Vegas. Follow @alexwhitee on Twitter/X.

Buffalo at Toledo odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Buffalo at Toledo odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Buffalo Bulls (3-5, 3-1 MAC) and Toledo Rockets (7-1, 4-0) meet Tuesday at the Glass Bowl in Toledo, Ohio. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Buffalo vs. Toledo odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Bulls opened by losing the first 4 games of the season, but Buffalo has won 3 of the past 4 games overall to keep hope alive for bowl eligibility. UB has covered 4 of the past 5 games, too, while hitting the Under in each of the past 4 games.

The Buffalo defense allowed 38 or more points in the first 4 games, hitting the Over in each outing. However, the Bulls have allowed just 13.3 PPG in the past 4 outings, all Unders.

The Rockets have won 7 in a row since a 30-28 loss at Illinois in the opener  on Sept. 2. Toledo covered at Miami (Ohio) on Oct. 21, winning 21-17 as a 2.5-point favorite as the Under (46.5) cashed. The cover snapped an 0-5 ATS skid.

Buffalo at Toledo picks and predictions

Prediction

Toledo 31, Buffalo 19

Moneyline

Toledo (-710) will cost you more than 7 times your potential return, and that’s quite a bit of risk against a Buffalo (+490) team playing very well right now.

The Bulls likely aren’t going to the Glass Bowl and snapping the 7-game winning streak of the Rockets, but it isn’t going to be a blowout, either.

PASS.

Against the spread

BUFFALO +15.5 (-110) is a strong play, as the Bulls look to improve on a 4-1 ATS mark in the past 5 outings.

Conversely, Toledo -15.5 (-110) has won 7 in a row, but it is just 1-5 ATS in the past 6 outings. The Rockets have posting an 0-3 ATS mark in 3 tries at home against FBS opponents this season, too, with its only cover against Texas Southern of the FCS back on Sept. 9.

Over/Under

UNDER 51.5 (-118) is the lean in this Tuesday MAC battle.

The total has gone low in the past 2 games for Toledo, averaging 17.0 PPG on offense, while allowing just 11.5 PPG.

For Buffalo, the Bulls are on a 4-game Under run, averaging 22.0 PPG, while allowing 13.3 PPG. This will be an interesting game, and points should be at a premium.

Toledo at Miami (Ohio) odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Toledo at Miami (Ohio) odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Toledo Rockets (6-1, 3-0 MAC) and the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks (6-1, 3-0) meet Saturday at Yager Stadium in Oxford, Ohio. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET (ESPNU). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Toledo vs. Miami (Ohio) odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Rockets and Redhawks square off in a potential MAC Championship Game preview. Miami leads the all-time series 28-22-1, with Toledo taking the most recent meeting — in 2011. That’s right, these conference and in-state rivals, through a scheduling quirk, haven’t met in over a decade.

Toledo coach Jason Candle is in his 8th year, and Miami’s Chuck Martin is in his 10th year, so this will be the first game for each in the series.

The Rockets scratched out a 13-6 win at Ball State last Saturday in a game played in ugly weather. Still, Toledo has failed to cover the past 5 games, while the Under (48.5) result saw its 3-0 Over run halted.

The Redhawks have ripped off 6 straight wins since losing at the Miami Hurricanes, scoring 27 or more points in 5 of those outings. Miami has also covered all 6 games since the opening loss and non-cover.

  • Against the spread (ATS): Toledo -2.5 (-108) | Miami (Ohio) +2.5 (-112)

Toledo at Miami (Ohio) picks and predictions

Prediction

Miami (Ohio) 27, Toledo 23

Moneyline

MIAMI (OHIO) (+112) is a great play as short ‘dogs at home.

The Redhawks has played at home just twice so far, winning both outings, including a 27-0 victory against Bowling Green in their only MAC home game so far.

If there were in the Glass Bowl, I’d side with Toledo (-134), but it’s all about the Redhawks because they’re at home.

Against the spread

MIAMI (OHIO) +2.5 (-112) isn’t as appealing as playing it straight up, unless you strongly believe Toledo -2.5 (-108) is going to win by just a single point or 2 points.

Again, Toledo is 0-5 ATS in the past 5 games overall, while Miami is 6-0 ATS in the past 6 games.

Over/Under

OVER 47.5 (-110) is worth a look, but go lightly.

The Over has cashed in 3 of the past 4 games for Toledo, with the Rockets going for 35 or more points in those Over games. Last week, again, weather hampered both teams significantly, or the Rockets probably would have been a lot more prolific.

Miami cashed the Over last time out, and it has scored 23 or more points in all 6 games during the win streak. The Over is 4-2 in the past 6 outings, too. This won’t be a track meet, but it won’t be a defensive slog, either.

NIT: Toledo at Michigan odds, picks and predictions

The 6-seed Toledo Rockets (27-7) face the 3-seed Michigan Wolverines (17-15) Tuesday in the 1st round of the National Invitational Tournament. Tip from Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich., is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Toledo vs. Michigan odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Toledo came up short as the top-seed in the Mid-American Conference  Tournament, and failed to secure its first NCAA Tournament bid since 1980.

Still, the Rockets are on a 17-1 SU roll since Jan. 10, while covering 6 of the last 7 games. This is a prolific offense, rolling up 85.7 PPG in the regular season (2nd in the nation). Toledo was also No. 2 in 3-pointer percentage (40.5%), while checking in No. 5 in field-goal percentage (49.6%). Defensively, Toledo was a train wreck, yielding 76.1 PPG, and it was even worse in the MAC tourney with 81.0 PPG allowed in 3 outings.

Michigan limped to the finish line of the regular season with 2 straight OT losses to Indiana and Illinois, and it needed a strong showing in the Big Ten Conference tourney. It didn’t get it, getting bounced 62-50 in the 1st game by Rutgers. That snapped a 5-0 ATS run, while the Under result halted a 3-0 Over streak.

Michigan was a so-so offense in the regular season, going for 73.8 PPG, and it wasn’t great defensively either, allowing 69.6 PPG, which was middle of the pack. One alarming stat is a 70.3% free-throw percentage, which won’t serve Michigan well in potentially close games in the NIT.

Toledo at Michigan picks and predictions

Prediction

Toledo 83, Michigan 81

Moneyline

TOLEDO (+210) heads up US 23 to Michigan (-280) on a mission, looking to prove that it deserved an NCAA Tournament at-large bid. Some of these mid-major teams who come up short tend to enter the NIT with a chip on their shoulder, and I think Toledo will be no exception.

The Rockets have a red-hot offense, and it will be a huge test for the defense of the Wolverines. Toledo has scored 78 or more points in 9 consecutive games since Feb. 11, and there is no reason to believe it won’t happen here, either.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

TOLEDO +6.5 (-115) is still a tremendous play catching more than 3 buckets, if you just can’t bring yourself to bet it straight up.

Michigan -6.5 (-105) is not like Toledo, and likely unhappy to be in an NIT game. Sure, it’s nice to be in front of your fans, but the Wolverines are highly disappointed in not making the NCAA Tournament field. A postseason bid in a lower-level tournament doesn’t have the same pizzazz as it does for a mid-major team happy to receive any postseason invitation. Look for the Rockets to come out with more energy.

Over/Under

OVER 161.5 (-110) is a rather big number, but it’s still not enough.

The Over is 5-1 in the last 6 games overall for Toledo, while going 4-1 in the last 5 games on the road, too. Toledo has posted 90 or more points in 11 occasions, while hitting the century mark 4 times this season.

For Michigan, the Over is 5-2 in the last 7 home games, while cashing at a 5-0 clip in the last 5 at home against teams with a winning road mark.

MAC Tournament: Ohio vs. Toledo odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Ohio vs. Toledo odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The 5th-seeded Ohio Bobcats (19-13) and No. 1 Toledo Rockets (26-6) tangle in a Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinal Friday. The contest at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland will tip off at 5 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Ohio vs. Toledo odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Ohio drubbed Ball State 90-70 in a Thursday quarterfinal as a 1.5-point underdog. The Bobcats are an up-tempo team that has scored 90-plus in back-to-back games now. When they played the Rockets in the regular season, it was a 90 on the other side of the scorebook as Ohio lost to 8.5=point favorite Toledo 90-75 on Jan. 17 while the 159.5 Over hit.

Toledo defeated Miami (Ohio) 91-75 on Thursday as 13.5-point favorites to earn its 16th consecutive victory. This veteran Rockets group has now won 4 of its last 5 games by 15 points or more. Toledo went 8-of-21 from distance against Miami; the Rockets rank No. 2 in the nation in 3-point accuracy (40.2%).

Prediction

Toledo 83, Ohio 74

Moneyline

Against the spread

The Rockets are 6-1 ATS in the last 7 games of this series.

Toledo has the better ability to score inside and a more diverse approach on offense overall. Ohio’s defense has been solid in the team’s last 2 games, but in the longer view the Bobcats don’t be able to stay within 2 scores in this contest.

BET THE ROCKETS -5.5 (-105).

Over/Under

Both teams play faster than an average pace, and both sport efficient offenses. And the total here overcompensates for those factors. Don’t expect a lot of turnover/transition ball or an abundance of 2nd-chance buckets.

In the neutral venue, bank on a lower total. TAKE THE UNDER 162.5 (-110).

MAC Tournament: Miami (Ohio) vs. Toledo odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Miami vs. Toledo odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The 8th-seeded Miami (Ohio) Redhawks (12-19) meet the No. 1 Toledo Rockets (26-6) Thursday in a Mid-American Conference Tournament quarterfinal. Tip-off at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland is 11 a.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Miami vs. Toledo odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Miami went 6-12 in MAC play, but since losing to Toledo 89-71 as 16.5-point underdogs on Feb. 14, the Redhawks have gone 4-1. Over that stretch, Miami has displayed improved defense after struggling at that end of the floor much of the season.

Toledo, which also won at Miami 81-78 on Jan. 31 but failed to cover the 10.5-spread, went 16-2 in conference play. The Rockets have not lost since Jan. 10, going 15-0 since that date. Toledo is a tremendous 3-point shooting team; its 40.2% accuracy mark ranks 2nd in the nation.

Miami vs. Toledo picks and predictions

Prediction

Toledo 87, Miami 71

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

Toledo is 5-1 ATS against Miami since 2021. The RedHawks are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 neutral-site games.

The spread here is lofty. Miami played Toledo tight losing only by 3 on Jan. 31 as the Redhawks hit 10 triples in that game while Toledo managed just 10 free-throw attempts.

Look for advantages in most areas of the game swaying to the Rockets. And because of that game, Toledo won’t overlook Miami.

Consider a partial-unit play on the ROCKETS -13.5 (-105).

Over/Under

The Over is 4-2 in the last 6 series meetings, but this game looks to be fairly numbered. The Rockets and Redhawks play at a mid-pace. Look for a lot of 3s to crank the total into the 155-to-160 range.

2023 MAC Tournament odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing the 2023 MAC Tournament futures odds, with expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The 2023 Mid-American Conference Tournament tips off Thursday at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland. In the MAC, the top 8 teams qualify for the conference tournament, leaving Bowling Green (11-20, 5-13 MAC), Central Michigan (10-21, 5-13), Eastern Michigan (8-23, 5-13) and Western Michigan (8-23, 4-14) out of the festivities.

The first game of Thursday’s early session tips at 11 a.m. ET (ESPN+). The title game is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2).

Below, we analyze lines around the 2023 MAC Tournament futures odds and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

The Toledo Rockets (25-6) won the regular-season title — their 3rd outright in a row — behind a 16-2 record inside the conference. G RayJ Dennis led the way with 19.4 points per game (PPG), good for 2nd in the MAC, while leading the league with 5.9 assists per game (APG).

The Kent State Golden Flashes (25-6, 15-3) gave chase up to the finale, falling a game short of sharing the title. G Sincere Carry is the big man on campus for the Flashes, going for 17.4 PPG and 4.9 APG.

In fact, 3 teams from the state of Ohio placed 1-2-3 in the standings with the Akron Zips (21-10, 13-5) completing the trifecta with a 3rd-place showing.

The Zips are the defending MAC Tournament champs. Akron dumped Kent State 75-55 last March in the title game behind the exploits of F Enrique Freeman (game-high 23 points). The Zips were 1-point underdogs in that contest.

Freeman was the conference’s top rebounder, pulling down 11.1 per game to finish as the MAC’s only  player in double-digits in the category. He was 2nd in the league with a 60.5% field-goal percentage (according to the league’s official website) and 9th in scoring (16.5 PPG). Akron also had the MAC’s top scorer in G Xavier Castaneda, who filled up the stat sheet with 21.4 PPG – good enough for 12th in the country.

MAC Tournament expert pick and prediction

Akron Zips (+350)

To be the champ, you have to beat the champ. The Zips know what it takes to get to the top of the mountain. Look for Akron to repeat and become the first back-to-back MAC Tournament winner since Buffalo (2018 and 2019).

Along with the MAC’s top scorer in Castaneda, the Zips feature Freeman, who was last season’s tourney MVP. The duo give Akron a tremendous one-two punch. G Trendon Hankerson can be a serviceable tertiary scorer, too, posting 8.9 PPG, although he is rather erratic in the FG department, struggling at 37.6% (92 of 245), per the team’s official website. However, he did hit 37.5% of his 3-point attempts (69 of 184).

The Zips aren’t a great shooting team, so that’s the concern with picking Akron to go all the way. Despite a subpar 43.9% FG percentage (ranking 10th in the MAC), it still managed 73.8 PPG (7th) and hit 35.1% from behind the arc (4th). Defensively, the Zips limited opponents to 66.2 PPG (2nd behind Kent State’s 65.4%), although they are susceptible to the 3-pointer, allowing teams to hit at a 34.5% clip (7th).

Top 25: USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

MAC Tournament contenders

These teams are worth a futures bet to win the conference title.

Toledo Rockets (+150)

The Rockets are the chalk, but they certainly have flaws. The good news is that Toledo led the league in scoring (85.7 PPG) and swept the regular-season series against defending conference tournament champ Akron. The bad news is that Toledo was worked over by Kent State 75-63 back on Jan. 10, though the Golden Flashes were 4-point home favorites.

Along with Dennis, Toledo has F JT Shumate, who racked up 16.5 PPG and hit 41.5% of his 3-point attempts. F Setric Millner Jr. chipped in with 15.9 PPG, giving the Rockets a solid 3-headed scoring monster.

However, defense wins championships and the Rockets had ugly numbers on that end of the floor. They allowed 76.1 PPG to rank 320th in the country according to NCAA.com, while opponents hit 45.8% from the field (298th) and 36.1% from 3 (299th), which also ranked 11th in the 12-team MAC.

If the Rockets don’t improve defensively, they’ll have a tough time winning this tournament.

Kent State Golden Flashes (+200)

As mentioned above, the Golden Flashes finished 1 game back of the Rockets for the regular-season title despite beating Toledo by 12 in their lone regular-season meeting, which was at Kent. The Flashes split with the 3rd-place Zips, winning 89-84 in overtime as 5-point home favorites in Friday’s regular-season finale, and losing 67-55 as 1-point road favorites Feb. 3.

Kent, which has won 7 of its last 8 games, can light up the scoreboard like Toledo, going for 76.0 PPG (5th in the MAC), although it is a poor 3-point shooting team at 33.7% (8th). However, Kent State is a much more superior defensive club than Toledo as the Golden Flashes led the MAC in least points allowed (65.4). They really threw a blanket on the opposition during the season, holding teams to a 40.1% FG percentage — 1st in the MAC and 18th in the country.

MAC Tournament long shots

Ball State Cardinals (+1500)

The Cardinals (20-11, 11-7) have the 5th-longest odds to cut down the nets after Saturday’s title game, but they are a 20-win team with plenty of confidence.

Ball State scored a 12-point win (82-70) over Kent State Feb. 21, cashing outright as a 3-point home underdog. The Rockets also scored an impressive 90-83 victory at Toledo Jan. 3 as 8.5-point underdogs. In fact, Ball State seems to relish the underdog role lately, covering in 2 of its last 3 games when it was getting points.

OHIO BOBCATS (+1000)

Ohio is almost like a poor man’s Toledo. This team can score with the best of them, but it doesn’t put up much resistance defensively.

The Bobcats went for 78.6 PPG, 2nd in the MAC and 34th in the country. If Ohio gets hot from behind the arc, it could be dangerous. The Bobcats hit 37.2% from downtown, good for 36th in the nation. F Dwight Wilson III is a handful, going for 15.9 PPG and 9.1 RPG, and he hit 62.0% from the field.

Defensively, the ‘Cats allowed 72.9 PPG, which was 4th in the conference but 261st in the country. Defense will likely be their downfall. Still, Ohio is worth a small-unit play for a chance to cash a 10-to-1 payout.

Toledo at Central Michigan odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Toledo at Central Michigan odds and lines, with expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Toledo Rockets (23-6, 14-2 MAC) battle the Central Michigan Chippewas (10-19, 5-11) Tuesday. Tip from McGuirk Arena in Mount Pleasant is at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Toledo vs. Central Michigan odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Toledo covered as an 18.5-point favorite in an 84-59 victory at home over Central Michigan as the Under (150) connected on Feb. 4.

The Rockets rank 2nd in the nation with 85.2 points per game and should have enough firepower to overmatch the Chippewas. Central Michigan ranks 233rd with 71.8 points allowed per game and doesn’t have the offense to take advantage of a Toledo defense that ranks 322nd in scoring defense (76.3 points allowed per game).

Toledo at Central Michigan picks and predictions

Prediction

Toledo 80, Central Michigan 66

Moneyline

AVOID.

Central Michigan has been struggling all season while Toledo has taken its offense to an elite level. The Rockets (-1300) will win but you should never risk 13 times your potential return, even in a parlay.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

BET CENTRAL MICHIGAN +15.5 (-115).

The previous meeting ended with Toledo winning 84-59 and covering as an 18.5-point favorite.

The Chippewas were overmatched then, and they will again be overmatched in this game as Toledo prepares for the conference tournament.

However, this is a large spread for a road team to be favored by in any matchup. Central Michigan will not keep things close and this will not be a thriller, but it will stay inside the 15.5 points as Toledo comes down to earth after scoring 101 points against Buffalo Saturday.

Over/Under

UNDER 147.5 (-110)

Central Michigan has gone Under the total in 4 straight games against a team with a winning record and has also gone Under in 7 of 8 games when the opponent has a win percentage above .600. Toledo has gone Under in 10 of 13 games following a game in which it scores 100 or more points.

Toledo can score, but Central Michigan has issues on offense. Despite Toledo allowing 76.2 points per game, it only allowed 59 in the previous meeting and a similar output could be seen tonight.

Toledo will not need to do much to win this contest and it will be saving itself for the conference tournament. A quick game, getting in and out, will be in store for this showdown.
