NFC West foe Rams give Aaron Donald big raise to ensure his return to team

The Rams gave Aaron Donald a three-year, $95 million contract, $40 million more than he was due to get over that same period.

Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald said if his team won the Super Bowl, he would consider retiring. They won the Super Bowl and, despite continuing to be arguably the best defensive player in the NFL, he put pressure on the Rams to give him a new contract despite having three years remaining on his current deal.

He will be back in 2022 and will continue to terrorize opposing quarterbacks, including the Arizona Cardinals.

The team announced a new contract with Donald, one that pays him $40 million more but doesn’t extend his deal.

Apparently, the threat of retirement was real enough to force the Rams to just give him more money.

It is a three-year, $95 million contract. $65 million of that is fully guaranteed over the next two seasons. His previous deal had $55 million remaining in the contract over the next three seasons.

This means quarterback Kyler Murray and the Cardinals will have to face him at least four more times over the next two seasons and have to deal with his constant disruption at the line of scrimmage.

The world champions somehow come up with money to pay another star, keeping them looking like the favorites in the NFC.
